Story
Brody here with some exciting news: I’ve healed from my surgery, I’ve had my vaccines, and I’m ready to find my furever family! My backstory: I was with a great family for a year, but my two tiny human siblings liked to leave their toys and food around, so I ate a few things when I was left alone and bored. Turns out that stuff couldn't get out of me on its own, so I've had a few surgeries to take them out (the most recent being a peach pit)! I promise I'm a very good boy—I'm just curious and sometimes explore with my mouth, so you have to be careful what you leave lying around and give me lots of attention; I also love my crate, so you can always let me get comfy in there if you're not with me. Leashed walks will be the best option for me; I might find things to eat if I’m left to my own devices while unattended in a yard for too long (like that peach). It’s not my fault that there’s so much cool stuff out there to chew on! I want alllll of the love, whether we’re on the couch together or going on a hike, and I’ll match your energy if you promise to keep me by your side. Foster momma says I’m VERY strong, which isn’t surprising when I’m 63 pounds and tall like a standard poodle, so a gentle leader over my snout is ideal. Even though I get excited easily, I’m a good listener; you just have to give me instructions (and maybe a treato or two). I love all people, including kids, but I get very excited when I play or snuggle, and sometimes I don’t remember how small they are, so older kids might do better with me. 😅 I do bark when I see strangers in or around my house, but once they show me that they’re not here to hurt my people, they’re my new besties. Dogs are all my friends, and I’ve learned to coexist with one cat in my foster home who doesn’t act weird around me, but the other cat who creeps around like a ninja makes me nervous, so I bark at him to scare him off, of course (and it works!). I think I’d prefer a dog-focused house, but I might learn to live with an extra dog-savvy cat. I do tend to assume that all dogs are friendly like me, so I sometimes try to get too close to dogs that don't actually want me in their space, and I have been very confused by their reactions. If you could just guide me toward polite and safe introductions with other pups, I would appreciate it. If you think that you can give me the love that I deserve, apply to adopt me on the CLHR website today! I’m in Palmyra, VA, with my foster family right now, but I can be adopted anywhere between here and CLHR headquarters in Greenville, SC.
