Story
There’s a bear at the Pet Adoption Center… Okay okay—not that kind of bear. But Bear the dog might have you doing a double take.At 5 years old and 90 pounds, he’s got that big, solid, “did that just move?” presence—but once you get closer, you realize he’s really just a soft-hearted guy who never got the chance to just be a dog. Bear came from a hoarding situation and likely spent most of his life in a kennel… so now he’s learning everything for the first time. And honestly? He’s doing pretty great. He’s like a giant teddy bear who lives for booty scratches, takes treats gently, and proudly shows off his sit, paw, and down. On leash, he pulls a bit—but it’s more “wow the world is BIG” than anything else. He’s met Quinn and Trixie and showed us he’s not dog aggressive—just a little dominant and… let’s call it enthusiastic in his play style . And his tail? It comes with a warning label—this thing HURTS when it hits you A full-speed wag from Bear is basically a love tap with force.Bear is looking for patient people—ones who understand that he’s basically starting life over and needs time, guidance, and a whole lot of love.So yes… there’s a bear at the Pet Adoption Center. Not the kind you find in the woods—but the kind who’s been hibernating his whole life, just waiting for the right season to begin. He’s like a big story that was never fully written—just waiting for someone patient enough to turn the page slowly, gently, and let him become the dog he was always meant to be.

Story
Simba is a 6-year-old Siberian Husky with a big voice and an even bigger personality. He arrived as a stray alongside his German Shepherd housemate. While his owner reclaimed the Shepherd, Simba was surrendered due to a history of escaping. Before coming into care, he spent most of his life as an outdoor dog and is now learning what indoor living, routine, and stability can look like. And honestly? He`s taking to it pretty well.Simba is the perfect mix of cuddle baby and adventure bro. One minute he`s leaning against you for pets like a giant emotional support teddy bear. The next, he`s ready to hit the trails, patrol the backyard, or dramatically howl at the moon like he`s starring in his own wilderness documentary. Walks well on leash Potty trained Lived with children ages 6 and 16 Professional snuggler Loves adventure Would absolutely join you for late-night `awooooo` sessions with distant coyotesLike many huskies, Simba is social, expressive, and always has something to say. He enjoys being around people and is looking for an active home that understands the breed`s need for exercise, enrichment, and a little bit of harmless drama. An important thing we`ve learned about Simba is that he has been successful with select dogs in shelter playgroups. However, he can behave differently while on leash, so any potential dog siblings should meet him before adoption to ensure a good fit. We are happy to help facilitate introductions and discuss what we`ve observed during his stay.He could benefit from a gradual weight loss plan, but with regular activity and a family committed to helping him succeed, Simba has all the potential to be an incredible companion.Simba doesn`t need a pack.He just needs HIS people.

Story
KARL 5 years old • German Shepherd mix • Looking for rescue/adopter experienced with shepherdsKarl is the kind of dog who doesn’t give his trust away immediately… but once you earn it, you’ll see the goofy, curious, loyal boy hiding underneath all the stress. This handsome shepherd mix came to the shelter in rough shape with painful skin issues and ear infections that are finally beginning to heal. Unfortunately, the shelter environment has been incredibly hard on him. The noise, constant activity, and lack of stability make Karl anxious and selective with new people. But outside of the kennel? That’s where the real Karl starts to appear. Karl loves walks where he can sniff and explore the world around him. He enjoys enrichment toys, chasing after balls, lounging in the yard, and spending time with people he trusts. Once comfortable, he becomes affectionate, playful, and eager to connect. He has been working closely with staff and trainers who describe him as a “happy-go-lucky boy” once he settles in. He allows handling well with familiar people, takes treats gently, and has even started learning basic obedience skills using positive reinforcement.Karl would thrive with: * A fenced yard* Shepherd-savvy humans* Structure, patience, and routine* Children over 10* Slow introductions to dogs* Continued confidence building and positive trainingHe is currently still receiving treatment for his skin and cannot yet be neutered because he is on steroids.Karl is not looking for a perfect home. He’s looking for someone willing to understand that stressed dogs can still be very good dogs.He just needs someone willing to see past the kennel walls.
