Story
Hyper is a beautiful one-year old female German Shepherd mix who was brought to the HSOV on September 25th 2026 by Good Samaritans who found her on State Route 821 in the Lower Salem, Ohio area. Hyper was not wearing a collar, and she was not microchipped. This gorgeous girl has a black-and-tan coat, a long tail, and an adorable German Shepherd face with brown eyes, a tan mask, a slender muzzle, and large erect ears. Her left ear has a slight semi-erect appearance. Hyper has a happy outgoing personality. Hyper is a bit of a "Houdini" since she is an accomplished escape artist when it comes to figuring out how to free herself from a floor crate .. And obviously quite intelligent (smile). These photos of Hyper were taken on September 27th 2026 when, much to her delight, HSOV Volunteer Angel Grosklos slipped a leash around Hyper's neck and accompanied her for an adventure in our photo area. Hyper was full of playful energy and paused occasionally for glamour pictures. She was curious about cars driving into the parking lot, watching volunteers walking dogs in distance, and watching several of our outdoor shelter mascot kitties nearby. Hyper seemed a little too interested in the cats but, of course, we don't know what her motive might have been. Hyper weighs 49 lbs and was fairly strong on a leash. Angel discovered that Hyper will 'sit pretty' after she expends some youthful energy and begins to relax. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Hyper will be held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that her family will have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership.

Bear is a handsome young adult male (perhaps one-year old) German Shepherd who was brought to the HSOV on October 4th 2026 a member of the Marietta Ohio City Police Department after Bear was found on the 900 block of Fifth Street in Marietta Ohio. He was wearing a sturdy collar with a name tag ("Bear") on his collar, but there was neither an id tag with his owner's contact information nor a dog license tag .. And Bear was not microchipped. Bear has a black-and-tan coat, a long bushy tail, and a classic German Shepherd face with dark brown eyes, a slender muzzle, and extra-large erect ears. These photos of Bear were taken on the afternoon of October 4th when HSOV Shelter Manager Tracy Lynn Moore accompanied him for outdoor pictures. Bear had a lot to talk about during his initial photos earlier that day in the lobby, and he continued the conversation during his photo session when he saw several of our HSOV outdoor mascot kitties. Based upon his reactions toward the cats, we would not trust him to be kind to them or accept them as his friends. Bear hadn't yet stepped on the scales but likely weighs 70-75 lbs. He is very strong on a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Bear will be held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that his family will have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Surprisingly nobody has called or came looking for Bear as of October 7th 2026.

Story
Jackal is a handsome one-year old male Australian Shepherd/Husky mix who was brought to the HSOV on August 20th 2026 by an individual who found him on State Route 821 (between Interstate-77 and State Route 60 in Washington County Ohio). Jackal was accompanied by his companions (Badger and Puma) who are surely his siblings. All three of the boys were wearing a collar, but there was neither an ID tag nor a dog license tag on their collars ... And they were not microchipped. Jackal has a tan-and-cream medium/longhaired coat with subtle black shading, a long extra fluffy tail, and a beautiful Shepherd/Husky tan face with a white stripe on his forehead, a black button nose, a white ring around his slender muzzle, and large erect ears. Jackal's left eye is pale blue while his right eye is brown. Jackal and his relatives all have incredible extra-fluffy tails (the largest fluffiest tails we've ever seen by far .. almost as if they were sporting hair extensions to enhance the length and volume of their tails) (smile). But we can vouch for the boys and report that their tails are indeed natural with no fake extensions. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Jennie Sherrard for accompanying Jackal for his outdoor photo session. Jackal posed beautifully and was careful to make eye contact with the camera so that everyone could see his stunning eye colors. He gave Jennie several nice hugs while still gazing at the camera. Jackal weighs 36.5 lbs. He did fairly well walking on a leash and was happy when Jennie took him for a short walk after he was finished with his glamour shots. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Jackal and his siblings will be held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that their family will have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership. Jackal has an adoption hold as of September 24th 2026 pending a meet-and-greet. Update: Jackal went home with a foster family on October 6th 2026 who plans to adopt him after he is neutered. Unfortunately Jackal was returned to HSOV on October 13th since he appears to have some separation anxiety issues and was displaying destructive puppy behavior (chewing etc) .. And Jackal is still working on his housetraining routine.
