You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application   HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see   HERE Age: 9 mos. (as of 2-26-26) Weight: 17 lbs. (as of 2-26-26) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. If those sweet wet eyes don't win your heart, the curly little tail will do the job. Meet Manook! This sweet bundle of love will make you smile every morning and every night without even trying. At just 17 pounds, this tri‑color (predominantly white) Shiba/Rat Terrier mix brings together the best of both breeds: clever, affectionate, a little goofy, and always ready for fun. He’s acclimated beautifully to his current foster home and has taken to family life like he’s been doing it forever. Manook has a sister named Sheba who is also available for adoption right here at SOS. Despite his young age, Manook has a wonderfully even‑tempered personality. He’s affectionate, eager to please, and loves being part of the action, whether that’s squeaky‑toy time, playgroup with other dogs, or curling up with his curly tale for a good cuddle. He’s a social butterfly who enjoys meeting new people and happily coexists with dogs of all sizes. He’s also cat‑savvy (see pic).  Manook is coming along nicely with house training and still learning leash etiquette. He's fully crate‑trained and content to amuse himself for up to eight hours at a time. He’s playful but not over the top; currently he's enjoying an hour or two of daily activity, especially when other dogs are around. He thrives with routine, affection, and opportunities to play. Are you ready for our little man Manook to join your family? Note on Manook Shiba: This pup enjoys being around other dogs, both in play and as a friendly coexister. He does best if fed and given high value food separately from other dogs as we have noticed some mild resource guarding, which is a common breed trait in Shiba Inus (what we believe to be his breed mix). An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see    HERE    for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website:   Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl.org) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. Story
Meet Gabbee — a 22lb Shiba Inu with a big personality and an even bigger heart (once you’ve earned it). Gabbee’s story started in Saratoga, Arkansas, where she was found standing in the road, barking nonstop and too unsure to trust anyone. She had to be humanely trapped, and at first, she came in all bluster and attitude. But underneath that tough exterior? It only took about 15 minutes for her true, loyal self to start shining through.Like many Shiba Inus, Gabbee is independent, expressive, and very particular about her people. She doesn’t warm up instantly—she needs time, patience, and someone who understands her breed. When meeting new people, she may bark, posture, or even try a quick nip from behind if she feels unsure. Ignoring her and letting her approach on her own terms works best.Gabbee can also be protective of her person. Early on, she showed some strong guarding behavior, especially in close spaces like the bed. With time and trust, she has learned to relax and build positive relationships—but her future home should be mindful of introductions and respectful of her boundaries. The good news? Once you’re “her person,” Gabbee is absolutely incredible. She is: House trained! Crate trained (though she prefers not to be crated). Excellent on a leash! A dream travel companion—she loves car rides. And her personality? Pure entertainment.Gabbee loves to “help” with whatever you’re doing (she’s even been known to appear in YouTube videos). She chases leaves, bubbles, toys, and anything that moves—including the cat (which is why we recommend ONLY dog-savvy cats. She’ll happily “talk” back to you and carry on full conversations. She enjoys baths (yes, really!) and will even watch TV with you. One of her sweetest traits is how gentle and tolerant she is with kids—she absolutely adores her foster's grandchild who's become a friend. Gabbee is equal parts sass, smarts, and affection. She can be a little terror at times, but in the most entertaining way—and when she chooses you, she is loyal, loving, and endlessly fun.Ideal home:Gabbee needs a patient, experienced home—preferably someone familiar with Shiba Inus or similar independent breeds. She will thrive with someone who respects her space, gives her time to trust, and appreciates her quirky, bold personality. If you’re looking for a dog that will make you laugh every day, keep you on your toes, and form a deep, meaningful bond—Gabbee might just be your perfect match.Check out these Gabbee videos:https://youtu.be/2x9W8yLWnDM?si=n77eAUlFmMMXZ-okhttps://youtube.com/shorts/84LzY4-ETmI?si=VpkRNMuIz-6YueGHhttps://youtube.com/shorts/4I7ylpKjOn8?si=8yobnYgFMEev1qtDhttps://youtube.com/shorts/SjK4RLdyY-U?si=xp1kUfnejl1lSQc5https://youtube.com/shorts/p8PGzFfbsz8?si=rKamXTb5IkUBVyU6https://youtube.com/shorts/p1ZtWOU1s3w?si=sKhOlwzIeyETwmH-Name: GabbeeBreed: Shiba Inu/Crossbreed   (Breed mix is not guaranteed-no DNA testing done). Sheba is the kind of pup who slips into a new forever home so naturally that you forget she hasn’t been there all along. This petite tan&#226&#128&#145and&#226&#128&#145black Shiba/Rat Terrier mix is playful, outgoing, and wonderfully intelligent — a feisty little companion who loves a nice lap just as much as a good squeaky toy. Sheba has a brother named Manook who is also available for adoption right here at SOS. Whether she’s playing with other dogs, exploring the yard, or waiting patiently for her morning walk, Sheba brings energy and confidence to every activity. She’s social and outgoing, but not demanding; playful, but not chaotic. Her sweet personality is a hit with men and women, young and old, and she gets along beautifully with dogs of all sizes. Sheba and her littermates have spent the past nine months in quiet settings with plenty of yard space, so a compact, urban space might require some adjustment, but Sheba's warm, winning attitude would thrive in almost any situation. She's still working on mastering leash walking skills, but Sheba's perfectly content, quiet and clean in a crate for up to eight hours.   Like many young dogs, she’s also still learning basic household manners like sharing and teamwork, but she responds well to gentle corrections and structure. Generally, she’s an easygoing house guest who loves cuddles as much as playtime.  She’s happy to chill when you’re busy and delighted to join in when you’re not. And she's waiting to meet you! Note on Sheba Shiba: This pup enjoys being around other dogs, both in play and as a friendly coexister.
