Story
Location: Decatur, IL Emerald is a puppy mill survivor! She is still learning the ways of being a pet and adjusting to life in a home. Emerald is sometimes shy and insecure with strangers (especially men) and will bark at them. Her new family will need to understand this and take things slow when introducing new people and having guests. We recommend short visits that are positive to help her be ok with new people. Emerald has discovered all the joys of toys and likes to play with them. She spins in circles when she is happy or excited. Emerald is not sure about grass but is getting a little more comfortable with being outside. She likes to lay on the concrete in the sun. She gets along great with other dogs and will play with them, but she can also entertain herself. She is good with snuggles from people but is unsure about being picked up and will run away at first. This should get better with time and as she learns to trust. Emerald is considered a flight risk and will need a secure physical fence to keep her safe. Someone with mill dog experience is needed or another canine companion in the dog. Another dog will help her continue her studies in being a pet. Emerald's adoption fee is $375. She is spayed and current on vaccines and on monthly flea and heart worm prevention. Please visit leiashope.org for our adoption process. NOTE: WE ARE A VOLUNTEER RAN ORGANIZATION AND OUR APPLICATION PROCESS CAN TAKE 7-10 BUSINESS DAYS, DEPENDING ON OUR AVAILIBILITY AND YOUR REFERENCES. ALL OF OUR DOGS ARE IN FOSTER HOMES AND NOT AT A CENTRAL LOCATION. AN APPROVED APPLICATION IS REQUIRED BEFORE WE DO MEET AND GREETS. WE DO NOT SHIP OR TRANSPORT DOGS. YOU MUST COME TO THE LOCATION OF THE DOG TO MEET AND ADOPT.

Story
One of these ears is not like the other...Vincent Van Go-Go is a gorgeous male Shih Tzu. He is 8-years old, and overweight at 16-pounds. When he was picked up as a stray, he was very matted. Once trimmed, it became evident that he has one beautiful blue eye. He also had a "fake ear. His left ear canal is normal, but he has no ear flap on that side. It makes him unique and special, and it doesn't affect his hearing. When his hair grows back, you can even let him grow a new "fake ear if you prefer. No one will even notice. :) Vince likes other dogs and calm people. He is a food hound, and will need to be fed separately from any other pets. Maybe we should have named him Hoover?? Vince also cries for attention in the cutest of ways. He sounds like a mix of a baby and a small cat. It is very endearing. Vince likes cars, walks, and is okay in a crate. Please apply here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog His minimum adoption donation amount is $275. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, heart worm checked, and on flea/tick and heart worm preventatives. We are located in Bloomington, IL We do not ship, you would need to travel to pick up your babies if you live out of state. Bernie! We just can't with this cuteness!! Bernie is a 12-year-old, 13-pound Shih Tzu. His owner moved and decided it was too hard to take their dog with. :( Bernie is doing well in foster with his canine foster siblings. He likes people, snuggles, slow walks, and lots of nap time. Other than a little arthritis, and dry eyes, he is in excellent shape! Apply to give this cutie a forever home. He will bring you so much joy! https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog His minimum adoption donation amount is $245. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, heart worm checked, and on flea/tick and heart worm preventatives. Story
Hi my name is Sandile. I am a sweet and loving shih tzu. I get along great with me two other dog siblings in my foster home. I also do well with cats. I am nervous around humans, but I am working hard to learn how to trust! I am also being brave about going outside, because you know that can be scary too! I use puppy pads, but am learning outside is where I need to potty. Everything is so new so I am doing my best to learn the world is not so bad after all. I'm looking for my furever home, but please understand I will need time to warm up! All Pet Central animals are up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped (registration included), and current on parasite prevention. Dogs over six-months of age are heartworm tested. When adopting, we will ensure that you receive copies of veterinary and microchip records. If you are interested in this pet, please fill out the brief Adopter Survey by hitting "Apply for Adoption" on the profile. After we review your completed survey we will contact you by phone or email within three business days. We're primarily a volunteer organization, so we appreciate your patience. Please note- Out of respect for our volunteers and staff, we are closed on Sundays and Mondays and will not be processing any applications on that day. Do get back to us right away when we call or email regarding an application so that we can quickly connect using the process below: Select a pet and submit an online adoption survey. A PCH adoption counselor will contact potential adopters within three business days (PCH cannot guarantee any pet's availability, but we make every effort to accommodate adopters with a reply and possible alternative suggestions). Counselor and client will then have a conversation to answer questions, discuss any medical needs for the pet and determine the suitability of a match (if necessary, we may opt to put adopters in touch with foster parents). After a match is made, clients will be asked to sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee online through our secure payment system *Please see our modified no-risk return policy. (below) The PCH adoption counselor will then set up a specific appointment time and location. Adopters should bring a pet carrier and leash to pick up. Adult pets will be wearing a collar. It is important that clients arrive on time, neither early nor late. If your adoption is scheduled at Pet Central Helps!: Upon arrival inside the Crossroads Center complex (360 Wylie Drive), look for the black Pet Central Helps! semi-trailer, which is right outside of our facility (Suite 720). Park in the parking lot and enter the facility. A PCH representative will greet you and show you to the adoption room. Your new pet will be handed to you. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day photo with your pet and family. If your adoption is scheduled at PetSmart: Park in the PetSmart Parking lot and enter the store. We will be set up just inside the store entrance. Let us know you are here to pick up your pet! A PCH representative will confirm your information and hand you your pet. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day photo with your pet and family. PCH supports a 21-day no-fault return policy in which adopters are given the opportunity to find a better match. If we are not able to provide advice/tools to keep a pet in the home we offer these options: Exchange for a pet that may be a better match** Receive a refund minus a $40 processing fee** With this approach, we can often turn mismatches into opportunities! Thank you, Pet Central Helps!

Story
Jessie is a beautiful Shih Tzu. She is 11-Years-young, and she is overweight at almost 19 pounds. She should be closer to 16 pounds. Jessie seems to have gotten used to lots of tables scraps. She will give you her very best pouty face any time you have food. Don't give in! The good news is that Jessie is wonderful for walks. She is actually quite fast, so surely those extra pounds will melt off soon. Jessie gets along very well with other dogs and people. She would be content to snuggle all day if you let her. She doesn't mind being crated, though she is a good girl if left loose in the house. She rides very we'll in the car, and is a quiet little lamb no matter where she is. What an angel! Please apply here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog Her minimum adoption donation amount is $245 She is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, heart worm checked, and on flea/tick and heart worm preventatives. Story
This cute lil Shih Tzu wants to say, "Thank you, thank you very much! For considering him as your new best friend. He was attacked by a large dog before being picked up by animal control. Presley's lung was collapsed, his tiny body full of punctures and bruises, and his little jaw was broken. Add in fleas, double ear infections, and a severely matted coat. He has a permanent Elvis smile, earning him the name Presley. Presley was in so much pain, it was heartbreaking. But, he has made a miraculous recovery with medical care, surgery, and lots of love (and pain meds). He's feeling like a puppy again! Presley is only 8-pounds, and he's about 1.5 -years-old. He's so ready to be someone's baby! He is fine with other small dogs, but, he is understandably leery of big dogs. We think he'd be okay with cats and gentle children also. Do you have the house (and lap) for this sweetheart? Please apply here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog His minimum adoption donation amount is $345. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, heart worm checked, and on flea/tick and heart worm preventatives.
