Meet Maximus! Maximus was transferred in from another shelter, so we don't have any background information. Maximus is a very sweet munchkin that enjoys to play dress up! He is treat motivated and knows the basic command of sit. He is a special care adoption because he was diagnosed with glaucoma. Glaucoma is an eye disease where the pressure within the eye becomes elevated, leading to significant pain and blindness. Because of this, he is now a pirate with one eye. He will need extra supervision when being outside due to having limited vision. But this does not stop his curiosity and his will to find some treats. 🌶️ Meet Chilli 🌶️ 9-year-old | Female | Shih-Tzu Mix If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate companion who wants nothing more than to be by your side, Chilli might be your perfect match. This lovable little lady is a true shadow dog — always following her favorite person around and making it very clear when she’s ready for hugs, cuddles, or to be picked up (her signature move is gently scratching at your legs to ask!). Chilli is currently thriving in a foster home with young children and a cat, and she’s been wonderful with both. She’s friendly and relaxed when meeting strangers, whether inside the home or out and about, and she loves when people stop to pet her. She’s got great house manners too! Chilli is housebroken, crate trained, and great on leash — no pulling here, although she will bark at other dogs when she sees them. At night, she happily walks into her crate on her own when told “go to sleep.” She knows stay, drop it, come, and is working on sit (she understands it… she just doesn’t always feel like holding it — fair enough!). Chilli’s favorite things include: Sleeping (expert-level napper) Being held or sitting on laps Cuddle time (lots of it!) Walks and playing chase Meeting people and soaking up attention She’s very relaxed overall and would do best in a home where someone is around most of the time, as she loves being out with her people rather than crated frequently. One thing to note: Chilli is not into dog toys at all — but towels, beds, paper, boxes, or anything left on the floor? Those are her true treasures. Because of this, she’d do best in a home without very young kids who tend to leave toys around. Chilli hasn’t been tested with other dogs yet, but she’s open to meeting one during a proper meet-and-greet. Her foster will miss her deeply — especially her cuddles, her tenderness, and the quiet way she fills a home with love. Chilli is the kind of dog who doesn’t demand much, just a warm lap, a gentle hand, and a human to adore. Could that be you? 💗

Story

Crimson is being fostered in VA. Crimson is blind and has kidney disease. Crimson is a friendly little guy who loves belly rubs! If you would like to know more about this special pup, read on! Crimson is from Florida. His family could no longer care for him and so they turned him over to the Blind Dog Rescue Alliance. He traveled to his Virginia BDRA foster home in January 2026 and made friends all along the way. Crimson has settled into his foster home quite well! There are four other blind dogs in the home and Crimson gets along just fine with each of them. He is happy to share a bed and doesn’t mind if a dog bumps into him. He ignores the family cat. At night, he settles easily into his bed and sleeps through the night. He is housetrained – not a single accident yet! He has a deep bark and, when he first arrived, he barked fairly often but now that he is learning the routine, he barks only occasionally (usually when anticipating a meal!). As mentioned, he loves belly rubs and he enjoys head rubs too. He also likes toys. Crimson is blind, diagnosed with SARDS several years ago. SARDS (Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome) is a condition that causes rapid and irreversible blindness due to changes within the retina. In addition, he arrived at his foster home with ear infections that are in the process of being treated. He hears well though and he doesn’t let his blindness bother him at all. His eyes are currently healthy although he does have some clear discharge at times. Crimson also has been diagnosed with kidney disease/kidney failure along with high blood pressure. He is on a prescription kidney diet (Purina) and also on Benazepril twice a day. We don’t know all the details about Crimson’s medical history before he arrived at his foster home and – as is true with any rescue dog – we can’t predict what the future holds for his health. Anyone interested in adopting Crimson should first speak with their vet about canine kidney disease so there is an understanding of this disease, its progression, and how it is treated. Crimson has not spent time with children and, although he is such a nice dog, he should be adopted into a home with older children or adults only. And he should always be supervised when he is with young children, as all dogs should be. If you think you can provide this sweet, gentle dog the wonderful forever home he deserves, complete an application today! BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.
