(For more pics, visit nr2r.petfinder.com or www.RoadtoRescueLA.org ) INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLY: PLEASE read profile thoroughly BEFORE applying: DOG APPLICATION LINK: http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application Bridget (female) Intake date: 3/6/2026 (required weeks of therapy on paw) Shih Tzu Approx 10-12 years old 14.8 pounds Adoption fee: $waived – hospice adoption Good with other dogs: yes Cats: yes Vetting: spayed, UTD on vaccinations; heartworm negative, fecal negative, on monthly heartworm and flea preventive and professional groom. Other vetting and health issues: *Came in with oozing golf ball-sized mass on right rear paw. We thought her leg would need to be amputated as she didn't appear to have feeling in her paw. Trip the vet and the vet wanted to save her paw and leg. She removed the mass but because there was not enough skin to cover the open area, they did a weekly wrap with Mupirocin Ointment and Phovia Fluorescent Light Therapy. After about 7 weeks of weekly treatment, her wound closed and you wouldn't even know there was an issue! Histopath results per vet: "It is benign, but locally aggressive. Curative if it was completely removed - good margins taken!" *Two other very small masses (one from top of head and one from her back) removed, along with some mammary tumors (all benign per vet). *X-ray - heart murmur grade 4/6 - no meds at this time. *bloodwork on arrival - anemic *Syncope (fainting) -caused by high blood pressure in the lungs); On Sildenafil (Viagra) for life - adopter will be sent home with supply. *Dry eyes - artificial tears for life - we use Optixcare which is a gel and last longer in the eye. Temperament: very sweet, calm, quiet, sleeps most of the time. Energy level: low – give her a soft bed and she’s good to go - she only moves around when she gets up to go potty or to get drink of water - or when food is being prepped; she does like to walk around the yard doing her little sniffy sniffies. She's very slow-moving - kind of like a snail. Groom needs: High; requires professional grooming as needed (was groomed on intake) Biography: Bridget was found in the middle of Hwy 3, north of the substation in Benton by a very nice lady named Nicole. Bridget was in danger of being hit on the busy road as cars were just zipping pass and Nicole wasn't about to let that happen. She contacted us the evening of 3/4/2026 and brought her to us the morning on 3/5/2026. She had a bandage on her right rear leg that had been removed by the time we got her. The bandage covered some type of bleeding and seeping wound. Bridget was is in horrible shape... matted, filthy (Nicole bathed her and sent us pictures of the bath water which was almost black). She did not get in that condition overnight! We did contact animal control. The owner ultimately was located and wanted her back but did not show up at animal control. We see dogs in horrible condition all the time but this poor girl was in such horrible shape... the fleas, the flea dirt, the stink, the oozing mass, the everything. No animal ... no any living thing should live like that. Nevertheless, that is all in her past. We've addressed everything medically for her. This girl is so sweet and so quiet. If you didn't know she was in the room, you wouldn't know she was in the room! She takes her Sildenafil (Viagra) in a pill pocket and looks forward to it daily. She also does well with dosing her eyes with the Optixcare. She needs both of these for life. If you don't dose the artificial tears (whether gel or liquid)... she will get eye infections. Her eyes must remain moist. Since Bridget has been with us for over two months, she is a favorite of all the volunteers who've watched her go from dismal and sad to comfortable and content. We want to make sure she goes to a home with the means and compassion to care for her the rest of her life for however long that is. If you think you are that person, we certainly welcome your application! **IMPORTANT NOTES** *We do adopt out of state provided the adopter is willing and able to travel to us once approved. We do not ship or transport our animals and there is no exception to this rule. *All of our adoptable dogs are small, and they are never to be left outside alone, ever! We only rehome our dogs to adopters that plan to have them as inside dogs and part of the family! We do allow adopters with doggie doors, provided there is SECURE fencing. There is no exception to this rule! *NO SMALL CHILDREN!! As with almost all the dogs at NR2R, young children or a very active household is not recommended. Many of our dogs come to us BECAUSE of small children, thus we do not rehome our dogs to homes with babies or young children. KEEP THIS IN MIND IF YOU HAVE VISITING GRANDCHILDREN AS WELL! Even if the children are older, it would depend on the child AND the parent or parents. *HOUSETRAINING: We do NOT guarantee that any of our adoptable dogs are housetrained. While most should be easily trained, keep in mind that they live in a rescue where they have access to the outdoors all day and are inside at night. Even if they were surrendered to us as housetrained, it doesn’t mean they will automatically be housetrained in your home. Housetraining them should be easy in the right home with time, patience, and consistency. *We do not guarantee the age, health or temperament of any of the dogs we rehome. Many of the dogs we take in come from animal control and rarely do we have histories and even when we do, many times the histories are inaccurate. *Only adopters with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply. If you bring this pet into your heart and home, you will receive in return many years of love, companionship, and loyalty. That’s our guarantee. Other notes: This pet is available for adoption through Ninna’s Road to Rescue, Benton, La. We are 501c3 non-profit organization. Our mission is to rescue small-breed dogs and a handful of cats and to re-home them into RESPONSIBLE and CARING forever homes. We do not reserve animals, unless and until we have approved your application, provided the animal is still available at the time we receive your application. The first APPROVED application we receive will be considered. We are NOT a first come, first serve rescue!! We adopt our rescues out to the RIGHT home, not just A home.
