Story
Crocus is a 7-year-old Shih-Tzu and a recent release from a puppy mill, now experiencing her very first taste of a life filled with patience, safety, and quiet kindness. She is a tender little soul who has survived years of neglect, and she is learning, at her own pace, that the world is not as frightening as it once seemed. Despite her difficult past, Crocus is slowly coming out of her shell and showing her gentle personality. She gets along beautifully with other small dogs, and she truly thrives when she has a calm canine companion to learn from. Their presence helps her feel safe, and she watches them closely as she figures out how to navigate this new world. With people, she shows small but meaningful signs of trust: following her foster into rooms, seeking treats, enjoying gentle conversation, and even allowing her foster to carefully trim her face after weeks of building confidence. These moments may seem small, but for Crocus, they are huge steps forward and proof of her attachment to her fosters. Because of her history, Crocus is extremely fearful of people and does not tolerate petting or physical handling at this stage of her healing. When she feels cornered or overwhelmed, she may use her teeth to defend herself, not out of meanness or aggression, but out of genuine fear. However, with slow and predictable routines, she continues to make progress. She can be gently and calmly corralled into a crate for travel, and she is steadily learning to trust the world around her. Her healing will not be fast, but it will be deeply rewarding for the right person. Crocus needs an exceptionally patient and understanding home, one that will honour her boundaries, move at her pace, and celebrate each tiny sign of progress. She will do best in an adult only home, with those that understand that she cannot be touched and her need for space. A confident dog in the home would be a tremendous comfort and guide for her. Since she does not walk on a leash yet, she will also need a secure, small outdoor area where she can safely go to the bathroom. With a compassionate adopter willing to give her time, space, and unconditional gentleness, Crocus will continue to grow and discover that she is finally safe and loved. Story
Fitz is a 12 yr old shih tzu and a funny little old man who lives for snoozes, slow mornings, and happy neighborhood walks. He may be a senior with some special needs, but he is a gentle, easygoing companion who just wants to be by your side and enjoy life at your pace. Personality and routine Fitz is mellow, affectionate, and loves to follow his people from room to room or curl up nearby in his small bed or on the couch. He is a champion napper who happily sleeps in his crate overnight and often snoozes in after his early-morning potty break, then trots out for a long walk once he decides it is time to start the day. He is house trained with a routine, needs a last trip outside before bed, and will usually let you know when he needs to go out. Walks, manners, and quirks Despite his age, Fitz LOVES his walks, moves with a surprising pep in his step, and thinks sniffing every good smell is the best part of the day. He walks nicely on leash, is polite with other dogs, and is friendly and calm with new people, preferring gentle petting and quiet companionship over toys. Fitz is generally a quiet dog who rarely barks, but because he is deaf he can yell a bit when he is trying to tell you something important, which only adds to his charm. Health and special needs Fitz is a senior dog who is quite hard of hearing and has very limited vision, but he has adapted beautifully and navigates his world using his nose and routines. He receives eye drops twice a day and has liver value elevations on bloodwork; he has started a daily liver supplement, is currently doing well, and will need repeat bloodwork in 34 months to monitor this. Fitz will do best with an adopter who can commit to his ongoing vet care and is comfortable guiding a deaf, visually impaired senior with patience, consistency, and lots of love. Ideal home Fitz would thrive in a calm home that appreciates a low-key buddy rather than a playmate, with people who are around enough to keep him on his routine and enjoy couch time and easy strolls. He has been easy to live with in foster care, is good in the car when safely restrained, and is simply looking for someone who wants all the love of a dog without the stress of raising a puppy. If you are ready to open your heart to a gentle senior who will happily nap, wander, and chat his way through his golden years beside you, Fitz might be your perfect match. Story
Bentley is a sweet, gentle soul with a heart full of love. At 15 years young, he was surrendered due to medical needs, but despite his challenges, he remains a joyful and resilient companion. Bentley has a heart murmur, but after a visit to a cardiologist, he was diagnosed with degenerative valvular disease, which requires no treatment — a relief for Bentley and his future family! In addition to his heart, Bentley’s eyes are in need of some care. He is blind in both eyes and struggles with dry eye and cherry eye, but he’s not letting that slow him down. He recently saw an ophthalmologist, and with the right medication, he’s living life to the fullest. Bentley is incredibly patient when it comes to his daily eye treatments, and his future family will need to be comfortable administering them. Bentley is on the lookout for a warm, loving home where he can enjoy slow, peaceful walks and snuggle up in a cozy bed. If you're ready to offer Bentley the care and love he deserves, he’s ready to bring endless affection into your life.

Story
Romeo, Romeo, where art thou, Romeo? If you're searching for a handsome little guy to steal your heart, look no further! Romeo is a neutered male Shih Tzu with a sweet disposition to match his charming name. Romeo has a few health needs that require special care. He has allergies, which are managed with daily medication and a vegetarian diet. Since starting this routine, his skin has greatly improved, and we've even been able to reduce the frequency of his medicated baths. Romeo also has dry eye and will need daily eye drops long-term to keep him comfortable. This sweet boy enjoys walks, making friends with calm dogs, and sharing quality cuddle time. Once he's had his exercise, Romeo's ideal afternoon involves lounging on the couch next to his favorite human. Romeo needs a patient adopter who understands that building trust takes time. He requires a muzzle for applying topical medications until a bond of trust is established. With consistent, gentle care, Romeo will flourish into the loving companion he's meant to be. Romeo is looking for a dedicated and peaceful home where he can spend his golden years surrounded by love and comfort. Could that be with you? Romeo has a few health needs that require special care.
