Story
This little old lady is looking for a luxury retirement home with doting pet parents to pamper her and see to her every need. She was picked up as a stray. Thin, with a painful infection in her right eye and a cataract in her left eye, she was terribly matted and had to be shaved. She can’t see much, if at all, and can’t hear very well. She probably wandered off from her home and then could not find her way back. There is no telling how long she wandered around on her own, and it’s a miracle she survived. We took her to our vet to have her painful right eye removed and he found there was no eye left to remove so he cleaned the area and closed it up. He also did a dental and removed 4 to 5 teeth. She had been listed as 6 years old at the shelter, but our vet said she is closer to 16 than 6. She seems to feel so much better now. Ruthey is a 9 pound blue gold yorkie that did not have her tail docked. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and the infection in her R eye area has been resolved. She is very sweet and gentle and seems to be very smart. She stays on her foster mom’s deck, if the gate is closed, when she goes outside to relieve herself and she seems to be house broken. She now comes to the back door on the deck to bark to let her foster mom know she is ready to come back in. Inside she stays in an x-pen so she won’t be run over by the other foster dogs. Ruthy’s adoption donation is $250 to help us recoup some of our expenses. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers.
After you submit your application please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer will contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.
Please Note: All applications are processed in the order received, but an adoption is made to the best application received for each of our animals. All applicants must provide a vet reference on the adoption application. If you are adopting a dog from ARFA, a fenced in yard for the dog will be required. Home visits often occur with each adoption. ARFA has the right to deny adoption to any applicant for any reason without explanation. Please remember that the adoption donation is not for purchase of a dog, but rather to cover the medical cost of all dogs in our care.
THE FINE PRINT
1. Animal Rescue Fund Arkansas reserves the right to deny any application, for any reason without explanation to the applicant.
2. You understand that we often take many applications on the same animal and that they are processed in the order that they come in. An application is in no way a reservation for any animal or a guarantee that you will be selected to adopt the animal.
3. If your application Is approved, you will be asked to sign a separate adoption contract.
4. Once the trial period is over, usually 1 week unless there are special circumstances, the adoption donation cannot be returned to you for any reason. It will have been used to help rescue another homeless animal and is no longer available therefore, if you return the dog to us for any reason, you will not be refunded your donation.
5. If the animal you want to adopt is placed in another home, you can transfer your application to another A.R.F.A. animal without completing additional paperwork.
6. You understand that this is a rescued pet. We rarely have any information about their past life circumstances. We have all animals examined by a vet, brought up to date on shots, given their rabies vaccine, spayed/neutered (If old enough), wormed and checked for heartworms and if positive begin treatment. We do our best to ensure that we are placing healthy pets but can make no guarantee to the health or temperament of this pet, and vet expenses are the responsibility of the adoptive family from the date of the adoption. We require that you take the pet to a vet within one week of adoption for a check-up and to allow your vet to get a baseline for your new pet’s health.
