Story
Hi, I'm Cordelia! I'm a senior lady who has sadly had to come back to the shelter in hopes of finding my last forever home. I was adopted a few years ago and loved dearly but sadly my owner had to go to a nursing home and so I'm back here. I'm a sweet girl but I do have diabetes and a hard time seeing/hearing. Can you give a loving senior girl like me my last home? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop   ##1492386##

Story
**  REQUIRES FENCED YARD **  NEEDS A LAID BACK / CALM COMPANION DOG HIS SIZE ** BREEDER DOG EXPERIENCE A PLUS ** Meet 'Pork', a 6 yr old, 10 lb, Chihuahua Mix .   He has a 'cloudy eye' but still sees okay. Pork, came from a very bad situation, bitten by tons of fleas and ticks and lost all his hair.  Still missing a lot of hair. Pork is still skittish but has learned a lot in foster home; he has recall to come back inside from fenced yard, and when you are sitting down in chair in kitchen, he will put his paws up on you and take treats from your hand. Foster catches him and puts in her lap. He loves to get some scratching but still doesn't trust staying there on your lap and will jump down. Needs more time. Trust will take time and patience and we'd prefer someone who is home a lot to help him trust. He's housebroken (sometimes lifts leg inside).  He is not leash trained, so he requires a SECURE FENCED YARD. He needs a laid back / calm little companion dog in the home to help him continue to thrive to be a great dog.   If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Pork’s adoption fee is $295.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. We are a 100% foster-based rescue and all of our dogs live in approved foster homes. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will perform home visits and conduct veterinarian and reference checks for each potential adopter. Story
** SPECIAL NEEDS **  LEVEL 4 HEART MURMUR (NO MEDS YET) **  REQUIRES FENCED YARD **  NEEDS A COMPANION DOG ** EXPERIENCE WITH BREEDER TYPE DOGS IS A PLUS ** Meet 'Beans', an 8-1/2 yr old, 12 lb, Chihuahua Mix .  He's considered 'Special Needs' due to his Level 4 Heart Murmur, however, you wouldn't know it since he seems to be a happy little guy. He also has a 'cloudy eye' but still sees okay. Beans got some grooming in 1st pic. Beans came from a very bad situation that included bitten by tons of fleas and ticks and lost all their hair.  Beans' hair is coming back in quite well as you can see. He's housebroken and seems to ride well in a car curled up in a bed in the passenger seat. He is not leash trained so he requires a SECURE FENCED YARD.  Beans is a "climber" so fence should be vinyl or wood since he could climb chainlink. Beans is also a Very Good Escape Artist and Door Darter whenever door is open.  He will need a companion dog in the home to help him continue to thrive to be a great dog.
