Let me tell you a story about little Henry the 4 year old Silky Terrier and how he ended up with Wag N Train. During the early spring of 2020, Mama wanted a puppy, and a puppy she got! Little baby Henry was everything she dreamed of and more. This tiny snuggly puppy was her special boy. They went everywhere together! They took trips to the living room, to the kitchen, to the basement, and then back to the living room. It was lockdown you see, there weren’t many options to get out and socialize. So, Henry and Mama spent their days together, just the two of them.
Henry grew and grew, he learned to potty outside and how to go on walks, but it was still lockdown so he didn’t meet many people or other dogs. After a while, they would go on car rides to meet other people and their dogs, but Henry was pretty attached to Mama and didn’t really like anyone else. That made it hard for him to have playdates or go to dog parks, but he didn’t care, he had his mama!
Then, in the winter of 2022, Mama got really sick. Henry was sad they didn’t go on car rides or walks anymore, but he was happy to snuggle her while she was in bed. Mama would pet his head and tell him he was a good boy and he loved to hear it. Mama never got better though and one day a man came and gently picked Henry up off the bed and took him to a new home. Henry was beside himself. He didn’t like the man who carried him away from his mama’s bed, and he really didn’t like the man’s boy dogs. The man didn’t know what to do and he asked Wag N Train for help. Of course, we welcomed him with open arms.
Henry lives with a foster mom now and is doing just okay. Due to his past, he has a lot of catching up on socialization and learning how to be a dog. He doesn’t like men, kids, male dogs, or any dog bigger than him which is pretty much all of them. Grooming and nail trims are scary, and he needs to be muzzled for those. Henry's Foster mom is helping him realize the world isn’t all that bad, but It is going to take time. Until then, Henry is hoping to find his “Other Mother” or a new mama to help him be the Good Boy his mama always said he was.
We know his new Mama is out there and it may take some time to find her. If you think Henry might have a place in your home, please apply today.
The suggested adoption donation for Henry is a minimum of $400 and goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our rescue dogs.Wag N Train Terrier Rescue adopts to an extended geographical area as long as we can locate a local volunteer to perform the required home visit. Approved adopters are required to travel to Omaha, NE to pick up their newly adopted dog. We do not arrange transport, or fly our rescue dogs without a "pet nanny". All of our dogs that come from a commercial breeding facility require a securely fenced yard AND a resident companion dog, unless the dog's bio states otherwise. Please note, invisible or underground fencing is not considered secure or appropriate containment. Adoption applications can be found at www.wagntrainterrierrescue.com/adoption-information
