Story
Max is a Maltese/Shih Tzu mix, born November 2023.  Max is fabulous on walks and wonderful in the car!  He is house trained and not destructive if left out while you're gone.  He is such a devoted boy once he gets to know you and trusts you! Max loves to spend time cuddling on a comfy lap.  It takes him a little time to warm up, but once he's comfortable with someone, he's absolutely infatuated with them.  He's a little nervous around new people and appreciates slow introductions.  Max likes other dogs and might benefit from having another dog in the home to help show him the ropes. Max knows some commands and is leash trained.  He is not a boy that seems to be scared of noises or storms.  He does not like to be kenneled, but can you blame him?!!   Max has a tendency to be protective of his favorite person. He is looking for someone committed to working on his social skills (he's still a young guy after all!). AND he needs someone who will help him feel safe and comfortable so he doesn't think he has to protect them. It's too big of job for such a little boy.  Max lived with an older female and we think he'll feel a little more comfortable with a female as his new person. He would do better in a home that doesn't have a lot of new people coming and going. His new family will need to learn the best way to introduce him to new people. His foster mom has been working on this and reports he's doing better with each new person he meets!  We're not sure how he is around kids, but we assume older children who understand how to work with him would be best. Max really needs help with his social skills and becoming more socialized with people.  He is working with a trainer on his underdeveloped skills and any potential adopter will need to work with a trainer to continue that work.  If you think you are just the right person to give Max a great home AND you are commited to working with him, please apply today! The suggested adoption donation for Max is $400, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Adoptions for Max are limited to the area within 50 miles of Omaha so that he can continue to take advantage of free training from our certified positive reinforcement trainers.       Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. Story
This is Remi, a sweet senior Maltese/Poodle mix, born appx June 2018.  The perfect home for Remi would be with a family who has no other pets unless it's a smaller dog.  She would do better in a quiet home with someone who can give her lots of love and attention.   Remi is usually calm, sometimes very lazy.  She is not very active and just needs a peaceful environment.  She would love to be one-on-one with someone, but has been in a home with teenagers.  She has also been known to be protective of her "person".  Remi is friendly with other dogs and gets along with kids. Remi will let you know when she has to go outside.  (Recently she's been a little scared of a larger dog in the home and had a few accidents from holding it too long.  We believe this issue should improve in a new environment and with a potty training refresher.)  Remi knows a few commands, when to go upstairs for bed, go outside, move rooms and time to eat.   Remi seems a little nervous in the car - she shakes during the ride and at the groomer.  Otherwise, she's not opposed to her regular check-ups and grooming. The suggested adoption donation for Remi is $350, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. Please Note:  A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption. Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match.
