Story
Meet Cassie 💕
Cassie is an almost 2-year-old, 135 lb St. Bernard who found herself at the shelter through absolutely no fault of her own. Her life changed when her beloved dad had to move into an assisted living facility, and sadly there was no one able to take over her care. She’s now adjusting to a very different environment and hoping for a second chance at the loving home she once knew.
Cassie is a true gentle giant in every sense of the word. She is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and people-oriented, and she genuinely wants to be close to her humans. She enjoys attention, pets, and companionship and has the kind of calm, loving presence that makes giant breeds so special. The shelter environment is understandably stressful for her, and she can be a bit nervous here, but that melts away as she gets comfortable and feels safe. In a home, she will flourish.
She already has an excellent foundation: Cassie is house trained, crate trained, and has lived successfully with other dogs, cats, and children. She knows how to be a respectful family member and would do well in a home looking for a steady, loving companion rather than a high-energy dog.
Potential adopters should be aware of what life with a giant breed truly looks like. Cassie’s size means she takes up space — on the couch, in the car, and in your heart. Everything about her care is “extra large,” including food portions, beds, crates, leashes, and toys. Veterinary care and medications can also be more costly due to her size, so adopters should be prepared for that long-term commitment.
St. Bernards are also famous for two things: shedding and slobber. Cassie sheds regularly and will require consistent brushing to help manage her coat. And yes, there will be drool — on floors, walls, furniture, and sometimes you. Owning a dog like Cassie means keeping towels handy and embracing the messy, lovable reality that comes with the breed.
While she is gentle and well-mannered, her size alone means she can unintentionally knock things over, so continued training, structure, and mindful handling are important. She’ll benefit from a home that understands giant breeds and is committed to keeping her physically comfortable, emotionally secure, and part of the family.
In return, Cassie offers unwavering loyalty, endless affection, and the kind of companionship that only a giant breed can give. She’s ready to settle back into a home where she can relax, feel safe, and be loved again.
If you’re prepared for the responsibility — and the rewards — of a giant breed, Cassie is ready to meet you. 🐶💙
