Story
Meet Sam, a charming Standard Poodle who is 2 years old and grapples with anxiety. Despite his anxiety, he possesses wonderful qualities, is neutered, and stays current on vaccinations. However, finding the perfect home for him is crucial. Sam's owner has provided two detailed pages of information that would greatly benefit anyone considering adoption. Sam is fond of the company of other dogs and requires a home with a yard. Ideally, he would thrive in an environment without young children. Patience is key! If you are interested, please apply or send a message.May 19, 2024, 5:19 pm

Please read the pet description IN IT'S ENTIRETY before applying.  Thank you for your cooperation. Video link:  https://youtu.be/R3U3Z8bgfos We also have other reels/videos of them on our Facebook page.   FOR ADOPTION!   READY TO LEAVE ON OR AFTER May 24, 2024!  Taking applications NOW! Note:  Only those with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply.   INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLY: PLEASE read profile thoroughly BEFORE applying: DOG APPLICATION LINK:    http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application RESERVING A PUPPY:    If your application is approved you will be contacted by phone.   Specific puppies are only reserved with a deposit once the approved adopter is notified.   Lana - female Intake date:   5/7/2024 Breed:  Doodle of some sort Approx DOB:  2/27/2024 Intake  weight:  9.14 pounds Current weight as of 5/19/24:  12.10 pounds Size potential:  It’s difficult to tell.  They won’t be small dogs but we don’t think they will be huge either.  We GUESSTIMATE around 45 pounds GIVE OR TAKE! Adoption fee and vetting:  $450, which comes with $50 spay REBATE coupon redeemable once puppy is spayed no later than 6 months of age; includes age-appropriate vaccinations (at least two, plus Bordetella); fecal negative, bloodwork (treated for toxic shock – hospital stay), deworming; microchipped, professional groom Good with other dogs:  yes Cats:  yes Health issues:  none found   GROOM NEEDS:  Keep in mind, these are doodles of some sort and their coats are HIGH MAINTENANCE and will require REGULAR professional grooming.  Regular professional grooming can be expensive.  Depending on the size of the dog, you can spend anywhere from $40-$100 or more, every 6-8 weeks.   You MUST factor this into your budget when adopting a dog that will require regular grooming.   This is one reason that so many doodles and other high-maintenance dogs are ending up in shelters with unkempt and heavily matted coats.  Pet owners don’t consider the maintenance or the cost involved.   Before applying, check around for pricing (groomers vary) and make sure you are prepared for the cost. Biography:   These poor girls would not be here right now if not for the fast action of a homeowner, Caddo Parish Animal Services and our vet!  A homeowner was headed to bring in her trash can from the curb when she heard thumping coming from within.  She opened the can to find two puppies seizing.  She contacted animal control immediately and they came out.  They plucked the pups from the can and the director of animal services reached out for rescue help and we took them in and sent them straight to the vet.  It was touch and go for a couple of days but our vet and vet staff did an amazing job at addressing the symptoms quickly... even so much as putting them on a valium drip to keep them still as the other medications did their job.  Our vet believes that it was some type of toxin in their bodies.  In theory, it's believed that someone intentionally or unintentionally poisoned the pups and then dumped them in a random trash can.  When there is so much help available to people nowadays with social media...  they could've gotten help. To throw two LIVE puppies in a trash can to die a slow agonizing death... it's just unforgiveable.  Unfortunately, animal control indicated in the location where they were found... there was no camera footage.  We so wish the person who did this could've been held accountable.   As for Lana and Orlana the seizures caused complete blindness BUT their eyesight is now fully restored.  We have not observed any long term issues.  They are acting like normal, sweet, playful puppies.  The fact that they survived is a miracle in of itself but to have no after-effects is just remarkable.   Because we have no vaccination history other than what we’ve done, they have been kept quarantined away from the other dogs in a huge walk-in kennel (indoors of course) and only allowed out for walks on a leash.  They are quickly mastering the leash but will need a little more training.  After everything they’ve been through, we want the most amazing home for each of them.  We will NOT adopt them out together.  They are puppies and we want each to have one-on-one training and attention.  If you would like to give one of these girls a life of love, care and companionship, we welcome your application! VACCINATIONS and PROTECTING YOUR PUPPY! Your puppy has NOT been fully vaccinated!  While with us, your puppy has been completely protected the entire time.  Your puppy has not been outside of their protective puppy pen except to clean.  IF your puppy got two (or more) rounds of vaccinations before leaving, then your puppy was released to be with the other non-quarantined dogs.  It’s important to keep your puppy away from high-traffic stores or areas where there is a potential that there are unvaccinated dogs or areas where you know there were puppies that have had or have parvo.   Parvo is a silent killer and is everywhere... so just like you would a newborn human baby... protect your puppy.   Your puppy will require MORE vaccinations which will be discussed at the time of adoption.  YOU MUST FOLLOW-UP WITH YOUR VET TO GET YOUR PUPPY ON A SCHEDULE!  Parvo is everywhere and IT IS A KILLER OF PUPPIES!  You WILL be required to SIGN a contract that you agree to continue the puppy vaccinations until your puppy has been fully inoculated.  Be aware… we will follow-up!   WHY SO MANY VACCINATIONS?  Most people don’t understand why a puppy needs multiple puppy vaccinations so some people don’t go beyond the first set.  This is a HUGE MISTAKE.  We’ll explain:  In the beginning, while nursing, the puppy receives ample immunity from their mother.  Once weaned, they are susceptible to dangerous viruses such as parvo, the puppy killer, and distemper… among other things.  At 6 weeks they should receive their first round of puppy vaccinations.  Why isn’t this enough?  Because you don’t know when the mother’s immunity is no longer effective and if they receive it while still with the mother’s immunity, it doesn’t do any good.  This is WHY they need to continue with boosters.  At some point one or more of those vaccinations will become their immunity.  Don’t risk your puppy’s life!  While some vets only do three sets, we recommend four sets.  If you’ve ever had a puppy die of parvo… it is something you will never ever forget.   (Keep in mind we are not veterinarians and cannot give advice, so don’t take our word for it… talk to your licensed veterinarian.)   PUPPIES! Keep in mind, puppies teeth just like human babies and have little sharp toenails. They will also have behaviors that require training. Puppies will cry, chew, bite, mouth, nip, bark, destroy, dig, scratch, etc. The puppy phase lasts about 18 months (sometimes longer), so be sure you ARE READY for the commitment! Don't even think about applying if you have any doubts about raising a puppy... and don't expect children to take care of the puppy... because they won't! This needs to be an adult decision and an adult commitment.   POTTY TRAINING:  A puppy can only hold their bladder for a short period of time based upon their age.  If the puppy is 2 months old, they can hold their bladder for 2 hours;  3 months/3 hours;  4 months/ 4 hours, etc., up to 6 months of age.   At about 6 months of age, this time frame stables out.  Puppies are a 10-15 year commitment (sometimes longer).  Please be sure you are prepared for the life of the puppy!  In conclusion, if your puppy is in a responsible home that provides daily structure, training and socialization with people and other pets, your puppy will grow to be a well-adjusted and wonderful part of your family for many years to come.   COMMITMENT:   Puppies are a 10-15 year commitment (sometimes longer).  Please be sure you are prepared for the life of the puppy!  In conclusion, if your puppy is in a responsible home that provides daily structure, training and socialization with people and other pets, your puppy will grow to be a well-adjusted and wonderful part of your family for many years to come.       SPAY/NEUTER REBATE PROGRAM:  Due to the age of this pet, he/she may not be spayed/neutered at the time of adoption.   If this is the case, you will receive a $50 rebate coupon which will entitle you to a rebate of $50 once your pet is spayed/neutered and valid ONLY IF DONE ON OR BEFORE 6 MONTHS OF AGE!  It is REQUIRED and part of our adoption contract that all unaltered pets be spayed/neutered no later than 6 months of age and we DO follow up!    **IMPORTANT NOTES** *We do adopt out of state provided the adopter is willing and able to travel to us once approved.  We do not ship or transport our animals and there is no exception to this rule. *All of our adoptable dogs are small, and they are never to be left outside alone, ever!  We only rehome our dogs to adopters that plan to have them as inside dogs and part of the family!   We do allow adopters with doggie doors, provided there is SECURE fencing.  There is no exception to this rule!   *NO SMALL CHILDREN!!  As with almost all the dogs at NR2R, young children or a very active household is not recommended.   Many of our dogs come to us BECAUSE of small children, thus we do not rehome our dogs to homes with babies or young children.  KEEP THIS IN MIND IF YOU HAVE VISITING GRANDCHILDREN AS WELL!  Even if the children are older, it would depend on the child AND the parent or parents.  *HOUSETRAINING:  We do NOT guarantee that any of our adoptable dogs are housetrained.   While most should be easily trained, keep in mind that they live in a rescue where they have access to the outdoors all day and are inside at night.  Even if they were surrendered to us as housetrained, it doesn’t mean they will automatically be housetrained in your home.  Housetraining them should be easy in the right home with time, patience, and consistency.  *We do not guarantee the age, health or temperament of any of the dogs we rehome.  Many of the dogs we take in come from animal control and rarely do we have histories and even when we do, many times the histories are inaccurate. *Only adopters with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply.   If you bring this pet into your heart and home, you will receive in return many years of love, companionship, and loyalty.  That’s our guarantee.   Other notes:  This pet is available for adoption through Ninna’s Road to Rescue, Benton, La.  We are 501c3 non-profit organization.  Our mission is to rescue primarily small-breed dogs and to re-home them into RESPONSIBLE and CARING forever homes.    DOG APPLICATION LINK:   http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application Time may be of the essence if you are looking to adopt a specific animal.  We do not reserve animals, unless and until we have approved your application, provided the animal is still available at the time we receive your application.  The first APPROVED application we receive will be considered.  We are NOT a first come, first serve rescue!! We adopt our rescues out to the RIGHT home, not just A home. Only responsible pet owners need apply. Applying to adopt does NOT commit you to the adoption NOR does it guarantee the adoption. CONTACT:  Our adoptable pets are updated regularly, but if you want to check the availability of a pet...
