Story
Milo is the whole package-tall, dark, handsome, toy-obsessed, fetch-loving, dog-friendly, kid-approved, and somehow still convinced that your lap is a perfectly reasonable place for a dog of his size to be. If you're looking for an easygoing best friend who can keep up with adventures and then happily settle in for couch time, Milo is just your guy! Estimated to be around 2 years old, weighing approximately 60 pounds, and looking very much like a Doodle mix, Milo is a rescue, so breed and age are simply our best guess. What we know for certain is that he is a handsome, confident boy with a playful spirit and a happy heart full of love. Go watch Milo on YouTube, then come right back to read more about this handsome gentleman. https://youtu.be/3XExAdOuxFA Milo is currently thriving in a foster home where he has proven himself to be a wonderful house dog. He is house trained, crate trained, rides beautifully in the car, and has settled comfortably into family life. His foster describes him as an easy dog to live with, the kind of companion who is happy to join in on whatever the day has in store. One of Milo's greatest loves in life is toys. If there is a toy nearby, chances are Milo has already spotted it. He enjoys fetch, loves interactive play, and can happily entertain himself with a favorite toy before curling up nearby for some relaxation. He has a playful side without being nonstop busy, making him a wonderful fit for an active family that also enjoys downtime. Milo lives successfully with other dogs and enjoys having canine friends to run and play with. He has lived with both large and small dogs and shows excellent social skills overall. He appreciates thoughtful introductions and tends to do best with dogs who are confident and respectful rather than overly pushy. While he enjoys canine companionship, he is equally happy spending time with his people. Speaking of people, Milo is a social butterfly. He loves meeting new friends, enjoys attention from everyone he meets, and did wonderfully during his child assessment. He was calm, respectful, and comfortable around kids, making him an easy dog to imagine as part of a family. Milo has also met cats and showed polite curiosity, spending much of his time sniffing and even licking the cat during introductions. Because shelter and assessment environments don't always tell the full story, we think a dog-savvy cat or a calm, confident feline companion would be the best match while everyone settles in and learns each other's routines. Despite his impressive size, Milo has the mindset that lap-dog life is a state of mind and NOT a body type. We would call him a lap-dog of opportunity, because basically - he is more of an opportunist than a professional lap sitter. If a cozy spot beside you opens up, he may simply decide it belongs to him and then slowly inch his way over to your lap. Fortunately, his sweet nature makes it very hard to argue with his logic. Milo is looking for a family that wants a fun-loving companion, a fetch partner, a road trip buddy, and an all-around good boy wrapped into one very handsome package. If that sounds like your kind of dog, Milo is ready to load up his toys and head home. Apply today to welcome Milo to the family! https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/69fa6c109467b08f11069b72 Questions? Story
Meet Lulu — a soft, gentle soul with a heart full of love and a PhD in cozy living. At around 11 years old, Lulu has fully embraced the art of the slow, sweet life. She isn’t here for chaos or constant motion—she’s here for the good stuff: warm blankets, quiet afternoons, soft pets, and being close to her person. If you’ve ever wished for a companion who will happily curl up beside you and make your home feel instantly calmer, Lulu is exactly that kind of dog. Her favorite hobby? Finding the comfiest spot in the house and settling in like she’s been waiting for it all day. A couch, a dog bed, a sunny patch on the floor—it’s all fair game, and she makes each spot look like the coziest place on earth. Add in some gentle pets and kind words, and you’ll see her completely melt. Lulu doesn’t ask for much, but what she gives in return is something really special. Watch her YouTube video now https://youtu.be/2cRUskYyRO8?si=EAUx899WdQskmUu8 She is incredibly loving and affectionate, the kind of dog who bonds deeply and just wants to be near you. There’s something about senior dogs like Lulu—they have this quiet understanding, this calm presence that feels like comfort in its purest form. She’s not trying to figure life out anymore; she already knows what matters, and that’s love, safety, and companionship. Lulu is also wonderfully easygoing. She does great with other dogs and has been around children ages 5-8 and has proven to be gentle and sweet. She’s currently thriving in her foster home, soaking up all the love and showing just how adaptable and kind she truly is. She’s not demanding, not high-energy, not complicated—she’s just… good. With kids, we do believe that she would do best living with kids 8+. Older kids that can understand her calmer personality. If you have grandkids that come over to visit, that is totally fine as it won't be an everyday thing. She did great meeting a 5 year old girl and was so gentle around her. Lulu is just an older gal and likes for her general everyday to be on the calmer side. Adopting a senior dog like Lulu is something truly meaningful. These dogs don’t get enough attention, but they are often the most grateful, the most loyal, and the most loving companions you could ever hope for. Lulu isn’t going to chew up your shoes or bounce off the walls—she’s going to quietly become your shadow, your comfort, your little piece of peace at the end of a long day. She’s already grown into the perfect companion; she just needs someone to share that life with. LuLu is deaf and we believe she may have some limited vision, but she is a sweet soul who deserves the world. There’s a softness to Lulu that you can feel immediately. Maybe it’s in her gentle eyes, or the way she settles so easily beside you, or how she leans into affection like it’s her favorite thing in the world. She’s the kind of dog who doesn’t need to impress you—she just wins you over by being exactly who she is. All Lulu wants is a loving home where she can spend her days doing what she does best: cuddling, resting, and being adored. In return, she’ll give you unwavering love, quiet companionship, and a kind of warmth that only a dog like her can bring. If you have a soft spot for the underdogs, for the gentle hearts, for the ones who just want a place to belong—Lulu is waiting for you. Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life? We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond.   Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.    The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs.   It doesn’t stop there!
