Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!    Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.    The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs.   It doesn’t stop there! If your idea of the perfect dog is one that simply makes life feel a little quieter, a little cozier, and a whole lot sweeter... you're going to love Lulu Grace. She isn't looking to climb mountains or keep up with a marathon runner. She's looking for someone to enjoy life's slower moments with. A leisurely stroll around the neighborhood. A sunny afternoon stretched out in the grass. A comfy spot on the patio while you sip your morning coffee. Lulu has reached that wonderful stage in life where she's figured out what really matters, and it turns out it's pretty simple: being close to her people, enjoying the little things, and soaking up every bit of love life has to offer. Her foster says Lulu doesn't ask for much at all. She's simply happy to be wherever you are, and honestly, we think there's something pretty special about that. As with any rescue dog, her exact breed is always a mystery, but our best guess is she's a Poodle and Maltese mix. Whatever combination created her also gave her a gentle heart, an easygoing personality, and the kind of face that somehow gets even sweeter with age. If we had to describe Lulu in one sentence, it would probably be this: she's incredibly easy to love... and even easier to live with. She's calm without being boring, affectionate without being demanding, and happy simply existing alongside the people she loves. Whether you're reading a book, watching television, working in the garden, or enjoying some fresh air on the patio, Lulu is perfectly content just hanging out nearby. She doesn't need to be entertained every minute of the day. She just enjoys your company. Lulu is currently fostered with three other calm small dogs, and everyone gets along beautifully. She's not interested in wrestling matches or games of chase these days. Instead, she's mastered the art of peaceful coexistence. She'll happily say hello, acknowledge everyone, and then go back to doing her own thing. If there are other dogs in her future home, we'd love for them to have a similar laid-back personality. Think quiet roommates rather than full-time playmates. She's also spent time around a cat and handled that introduction exactly the same way. A polite little sniff, a quick "nice to meet you," and then she happily went back to whatever she was doing. It doesn't get much easier than that. Lulu's foster considers her fully potty trained, and she even knows how to use a doggy door. She has wonderful house manners and has earned enough trust to free roam while her foster is away because she simply doesn't bother anything. She hasn't spent much time in a crate because she hasn't needed one, but we think she'd adjust just fine if one became part of her routine. While toys aren't really her thing anymore, she still gets excited about treats. She takes them with the gentlest mouth and still proudly shows off that she knows how to sit. We love seeing that little spark every time she realizes a snack might be coming her way. Because Lulu is a senior, we also want to be transparent about a few perfectly normal changes that come with getting older. Her hearing isn't quite as sharp as it used to be, and her vision isn't perfect anymore either. She can absolutely still hear and see, just not with the same clarity she once had. She also has a little weakness in her back legs from time to time, which means she may occasionally stumble if she steps into a hole in the yard or tries to hurry down a flight of stairs. None of it slows her down from enjoying life. She still loves her walks, has no trouble getting around the house, and even manages short stairs just fine. She simply appreciates taking life at her own pace these days. Because of that, we think Lulu would do wonderfully in a first-floor apartment where she wouldn't have to navigate lots of stairs every day, or in a home with a backyard where she can wander outside, soak up the sunshine, and enjoy laying in the grass whenever she pleases. Her foster says sitting out on the patio together has become one of Lulu's favorite ways to spend the day. Lulu isn't looking for excitement. She's looking for companionship. The kind where you don't have to fill every moment with activity because simply being together is enough.
