Story
Nala is a gentle, loving dog with a beautiful brindle coat of caramel and ebony stripes that caught everyone’s eye. But more than her looks, it is her kindness that stands out. She takes treats softly as if saying “thank you” with every nibble. On walks, she stays by your side, moving at your speed, happy to enjoy the world at her own calm pace. Her favorite thing is sniffing around during her walks, discovering new smells, and savoring the moment. Nala was abandoned and has been waiting in a cold, lonely kennel for a family to find her for almost two years. She didn’t bark or jump for attention. Instead, she sat quietly, gently wagging her tail as if to say, “I’m here and ready to love you.” At night, she curled up on her thin blanket, dreaming of a home where she could finally feel safe and loved. Nala wasn’t just waiting for someone to notice her coat; she was waiting for someone to see her kind heart and give her the love she had been saving all this time. Note: Currently, Phoongyi is in Korea, but will be arriving in San Francisco once adopted. For more info about the dog or the adoption application, please click here.Adopt Phoongyi, the Calm and Cuddly Pup You’ll Easily Fall in Love WithMost puppies are all bounce and chaos, but Phoongyi already carries himself with a quiet, steady calm, even while he’s leaning in for pets from anyone who walks by.Quick Facts BreedJindo mixed breed · Sex: Male · Born: November 2025 · Weight: 10.4 kg · Location: Korea · Traits: Affectionate, calm, sociable · Health: Neutered, vaccinated.BackgroundPhoongyi was rescued in July 2026 from a dog meat farm in Icheon, Korea, when he was only a few months old. Since then he has been living with other dogs at our partner shelter, where he has settled in well and is now ready to find his forever family.PersonalityPhoongyi is affectionate and clearly loves being around people. He greets everyone the same way, whether they are men or women, with no hesitation and plenty of affection. He carries a calm, steady energy day to day, and while he enjoys playtime and walks, he is just as happy settling in beside you. He doesn’t bark much and has no unusual barking habits.CompatibilityPhoongyi is comfortable and confident with both men and women, and he shows no signs of being shy around new people. He hasn’t lived with cats before, so we can’t say for certain how he’d do. Knowing his easygoing nature, though, we think it’s possible with a slow, gradual introduction, plenty of patience, and enough space for each of them to have their own retreat while they get used to one another.Phoongyi gets along well with other dogs, especially calm dogs closer to his own age. He can feel a little overwhelmed if too many dogs crowd around him at once, so he’ll do best with introductions that give him room to settle in at his own pace.Behaviours & TrainingPhoongyi does well in the car, at the vet, and at bath time. He enjoys his walks and already has good leash habits. He prefers going potty outdoors rather than using a pad, and he hasn’t shown any tendency to chew on things he shouldn’t. As a young dog, he hasn’t yet had much chance to prove himself on separation anxiety, but he has shown no signs of it so far.Health & DietPhoongyi is neutered, dewormed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations as of August 2026. He takes monthly parasite preventatives. He has no known allergies and no history of additional surgeries or treatments. He has passed the veterinary screening and is healthy and ready for a forever home.He eats kibble twice a day and has not shown any food allergies or sensitivities so far.Ideal HomePhoongyi would do well in most homes thanks to his calm, gentle temperament. He’ll be happiest with a family who works from home or is retired and enjoys spending plenty of time with their dog, since that gives him the company and steady guidance he needs as a young dog still finding his footing in the world.Having another calm, gentle dog in the home would be a wonderful bonus, since that’s the kind of friend Phoongyi gravitates toward most. Still young and already this steady, Phoongyi just needs a family willing to give him the time, patience, and love to grow into the companion he’s clearly going to be. Whoever adopts him will be getting a wonderful boy.
