Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application HEADLINER: Meet Waylon! Strong, silent type with lots of love to give HISTORY: Waylon is a Tibetan Mastiff, who, through no fault of his own, found himself in a shelter in Texas. He was loved well and cared for by his previous human, who unfortunately could not keep him due to a life change. Waylon has chronic dry eye, which has caused him some vision issues. He has prescription eye drops that he will need to be on for the rest of his life. Though his vision issues don’t stop him from enjoying life and he’s proven to be super smart and highly adaptable – he figured out the dog door in his foster home as soon as he arrived! PERSONALITY: Think Rip from Yellowstone – all in black with quiet strength, he can appear a little aloof, but once you earn his loyalty, he’ll be fiercely devoted to you! Besides periodic patrols of the yard, his favorite activities are long naps on the floor or dog bed (he’s welcome on the couch, but prefers to stay on the floor!). Housebroken and takes treats gently. Like Rip, he’s a little cautious around strangers, but once they prove they aren’t a threat, he continues on his way unaffected. Does very well taking his eye medication and is cooperative at the vet. He can appear a bit stoic, but don’t let that fool you – he enjoys a good rub down and likes to hang out in the same room as his humans. Fuzzy and soft, he enjoys being brushed and groomed. FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: Napping, patrolling the back yard, barking at the little dogs 2 houses down. He also enjoys being brushed and hearing words of affirmation and love.  MEDICAL ISSUES: Waylon does have some vision impairment, which just makes him a little cautious as he walks around. Steps are challenging for him, but he has successfully navigated the 3 or 4 steps he has to use to get outside in his foster home. His 3 rd eyelid was removed when he was a puppy, and that has caused him chronic dry eye, which has led to some scarring on his cornea. He’s also had a successful entropion eye surgery to repair his eyelids slightly turned inward. His eye specialist says he’ll need to be on eye drops twice a day for the rest of his life. WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: Waylon would do best in a home with minimal stairs due to his vision issues. He needs a family who will be as committed to him and his eye care as he is to them! He’s always lived with other dogs, but would likely do fine as an only dog. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Waylon is soft and fuzzy and so sweet! He’s pretty low energy, but don’t mistake that for a lack of enthusiasm for finding a forever home! Like his namesake, Waylon may look like a highwayman, but nothing would make him happier than settling down with the perfect family.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs. These include but are not limited to pull fees from shelters, veterinary examinations, vaccinations, medications and care, microchips, neuter/spay surgeries, heartworm treatments, behavior evaluations, and foster care, as needed. The intact dog is registered under the auspices of the American Kennel Club and is actively being shown. A veterinarian has determined the sterilization procedure would harm the intact dog.  We believe in Force Free Training Methods and do not approve of methods or devices using pain or force to control the dog, or to deter undesirable behavior.  Homes with highly varnished steps must have carpeting, securely fixed stair treads, or a non-skid surface. **We encourage you to remediate potential safety issues while your application is under review, prior to the home visit. &#226&#128&#139Any inside steps to which the dog(s) have access, must have carpeting, securely fixed stair treads, or a non-skid surface. Certain large-breed dogs should not be sterilized prior to 12 - 18 months of age.  If you adopt an intact puppy, you will sign an adoption contract agreeing to have the dog sterilized at your expense at the time your veterinarian recommends. Proof of sterilization must be provided to Mastiffs To Mutts Rescue as soon as the procedure is completed.  If the puppy is not sterilized as required, Mastiffs To Mutts Rescue reserves the right to claim legal ownership of the dog.  For additional information please review our FAQs or contact mastiffstomutts@gmail.com **Mastiffs To Mutts Rescue reserves the right to approve or deny any adoption that occurs through this organization without disclosure.  We reserve the right to make exceptions for special circumstances. **PA Kennel License: 05845   December 6, 2025, 12:39 pm
