Story
Hi! My name is HODU and here is some info about me:
PHYSICAL INFO:
Breed: Tibetan Spaniel/Mini Retriever mix (best guess, really!)
Age: approx. 1.5 year (est. DOB: August 2024)
Gender: Male
Weight: 21.5 lbs (9.7 kg)
Current Location: S. KOREA
RESCUE STORY – I was rescued from Didi Animal Hospital, a municipal shelter in Ganghwa, South Korea. Unfortunately, this shelter is a place where many animals are euthanized. Because I loved people so much, a volunteer urgently asked for me to be rescued. Thankfully, I was rescued by Doremi Rescue and have been in their loving care while I await my forever home in the Pacific Northwest.
Because I had such a good temperament when first rescued and showed no issues on my infectious disease tests, my rescuers originally hoped to prepare me for adoption quickly. However, they soon noticed that I had no strength in my tail, so they put my adoption process on hold and got me the vet care I needed! Veterinary examination showed that the nerves in my tail had been severed in some kind of accident, and the veterinarian explained that it must have been very painful. I underwent a full tail amputation surgery, recovered very well, and am now fully healed and ready to find my forever home!
TEMPERAMENT – My rescuers say I am an active, affectionate, and very people-loving dog. I have a bright and cheerful personality and truly just bring so much love and life to the people around me! Once I become familiar with someone, I show a high level of affection and will even roll over to show my belly. What stands out most about me is how deeply I love my people. Even when I am playing with other dogs, I often come to people first to ask for attention. If someone is sitting nearby, I like to stay close by their side. With strangers, I may bark a little or appear slightly cautious at first, but with just a little love and patience, I opens up and become friendly. I also take treats well, so I am not a dog with strong or lasting defensiveness around strangers (you can win me over pretty quick with treatos!).
ENERGY LEVEL – Medium. I'm a young doggo with plenty of energy and enjoy running around and playing with other dogs. Don't worry though, during rest time, I am able to settle down and relax calmly. I will need daily walks and mental exercise, but after that I will be content to snooze and relax!
GETS ALONG WITH:
Kids – I have met some children and was very gentle, but no videos of the interactions yet. If an applicant has children, we can request videos be taken!
NOTE: all dogs should be supervised around children and should have their space advocated for by adults.
Dogs – Yes! I generally get along well with other dogs. If another dog provokes me, I may growl back to advocate for my space, but I have never been involved in a serious fight. I am looking for an adopter who will advocate for me and not put me in situations where other doggies make me uncomfortable.
Here's a video of me around some of my sheltermates
Here's another video of me around other doggys
Cats – No video of the interaction yet, but my rescuer says I show little interest in cats I see on my walks.
PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.
TRAINING:
Leash skills – I am not super experienced with walks, but I am curious about my surroundings andgradually adapt well when on leash. I tend to observe the environment with interest and generally follow my leader nicely. Video coming soon!
House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home!
Crate trained - Work in progress.
Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.
HEALTH NOTES:
I underwent a full tail amputation due to a traumatic injury. I recovered well and am now fully healed!
I am neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.
I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying to Canada.
I will have dental cleaning, if necessary, before flying to Canada.
NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.
ADOPTION FEE:
My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD ($750.00 + GST & PST) including applicable taxes, which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.

The info included in each WCP bio is provided to us from the international rescuer. WCP does not have in-person access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions, although we ask for video proof of a dog's attributes wherever possible. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person(s) adopting them and the environment in which they live.
