Story
Hansel is a purebred toy poodle. He is only a year old but he is very shy and timid with people. He takes time to warm up and relax. We had attempted to take him to the groomer to get a professional groom but he bit the groomer when she initially put the restraint around his neck and started the clippers. He freaked out and she would not groom him after that. We were able to groom him here but we are not groomers so it's not the prettiest. He did fine at the vet although you could tell that he was nervous. He had never attempted to bite before so we were all shocked so we want any potential adopter to be aware that Hansel has the potential to fear bite. For this reason, he is not recommended for small children or children who like to grab or move suddenly to pick up or pet. He would probably be fine around older kids who understand to give him his space and who could read his body language. Hansel would benefit from getting out and about to socialize with new places, people and things as this would probably help build his confidence when dealing with new things. He may, however, always be a shy, fearful dog so just be prepared if he wants to be an introvert and home body. He does love to play with other dogs his size but can, sometimes have some food aggression and dominant behaviors. Hansel would probably do fine with cats as he would, most likely, leave them be. He has never been exposed to cats though so proper introductions would be necessary. Hansel is a snuggler and super sweet once he feels safe and secure and trusts you. But remember, initially, he will probably be scared of pretty much everything. Because of his reaction to the groomers neck restraint, we feel that he would do best on a harness if you need to walk him. He currently is not used to walking on a leash though. He will need some housetraining but should transition easily to being totally housebroken. Hansel would prefer a quiet, calm environment and will make a wonderful companion to someone who can give him that. Hansel saw the vet on 6/16/25 and was found to have no issues noted. He tested negative for heartworms and has been started on Simparica Trio for flea control and heartworm prevention. He also did test negative on his fecal. Hansel weighed 10.16 pounds as of 11/3/25, the date he was neutered. If interested in giving Hansel his forever home, please submit your interest and your adoption application via email or text ONLY to 352-215-3260 (phone calls will not be answered or returned from this number). Hansel's adoption fee will be $500 to help cover the cost of his vetting and daily care while with us. We will only consider applicants who complete the adoption application and will determine whether the applicant would be a good fit for Hansel based on the info provided in the application. If we feel that you will be a good match for him, we will set up a meet and greet appointment with you.
