Story
Coqui is said to be 16 yr old but sure doesn’t act it. He is a distinguished gentleman toy poodle weighing in just under 10lbs. He has been fully vetted, had dental and almost done being treated for odd wound on his side that popped up a few weeks ago - unsure if spider bite vs some sort of burn but nothing hot he was laying on ‍ Great with dogs, cats and kids - on his terms. In other words he is great meeting everyone but will stand his ground and not a fan of being cornered or smothered so no little kids or in your face big dogs that won’t accept a tiny dog correction. Confident, housebroken (but will leg lift at first). Still loves to go for walks, stroller rides, plays with toys, knows basic commands, loyal as can be to his person. Exceptionally smart and mentally sharp still. Our adoption applications are on our website: WWW.ANIMALLUVRS.ORG All of our adoptable rescues have a clean bill of health (unless otherwise stated), are spayed/neutered, vaccinated (age-appropriately), tested (FeLV/FIV for cats, HW for dogs over 6 months of age), current on flea and heartworm prevention and microchipped. This is all included in their adoption fee that goes in as a donation to help us cover their medical costs and continue to help other animals in need. Any questions, concerns and suggestions, please feel free to contact us at ALDR@animalluvrs.org. ##1992916##

Story
Daisy is a very calm, sweet dog. She is potty trained and listens well. Because she is so small—about 7 lbs—she would do better in a home with older children. She is my daughter's dog, but due to her being in college, she no longer has time to spend with her, and we do not have the finances to take her to vet visits.

Story
****SIMON HAS A BITE HISTORY. Simon is a 13 year old, 12 lb silver/brown toy poodle. His lifetime owner died and her son worked too many hours to care for the dog so he surrendered him to the Humane Society of the Nature Coast who asked us to take. He has been in our rescue since July. He was adopted by a previous adopter, but returned when he bit the adopter's husband. He loves attention and he even plays with 2 of our small dogs. We have worked on making him more confident and comfortable and believe that he is ready for his permanent owner. He would do best in a home with no children or dogs. Simon has been neutered, vaccinated, and is heartworm negative. There is no adoption fee for this sweet senior and applications to adopt are at kathisk9s.org. Meet greets are scheduled only for approved applicants

These pups are in Tampa, Florida too!

Story
MAXX & ME PET RESCUE adoptable dogsWhen we leapt for Sunny - paralyzed and urine stained, matted head to toe, sitting at the shelter without much hope - we didn’t have any idea what we could expect. We just wanted to give him time to tell his story and see… just see if there was anything we could do to help him. We couldn’t allow him to not have a chance. Fast forward a couple weeks and holy cow how Sunny’s future has changed dramatically! While he will forever be paralyzed, multiple vets agree that this is an old injury and it’s past the timeframe where something surgically could have helped him, he has a bright future anyway! Sunny had the worst UTI we have ever seen. His urine was so dark brown, it was nearly black. It was thick and opaque. Meds have helped make him not only MUCH more comfortable, his urine is now a healthy color and consistency! So, check that off his list! Additionally, Sunny was shorn, ridding him of the painful body-covering matts. He feels tremendously better from that alone! But even deeper, his urine-burned backside has been nearly completely relieved of the rank hair and his skin is clearing up, also! Every day, he gets better on that front. Most notably, thanks to the generous donation of a top-notch wheelchair, Sunny is on the move!!!! Without his wheels, Sunny will drag himself all around the house. He is NOT idle! He’s very determined to follow the other dogs and get where he wants to go by whatever means necessary. But with his new tires, he is oh so capable! Sunny can off road and navigate minor obstacles all on his own! It’s remarkable how seamlessly he took to this new adventure. Watching Sunny take on the world in his wheels is incredible. He is so happy, so curious, so engaged and … FAST! Sunny’s major hurdles have all been addressed and he is feeling remarkably better. His one consequence of being traumatically paralyzed we cannot address or fix is that he can’t urinate on his own. He passes stool sufficiently but requires manual bladder expression by his human. Without it, is how he ended up with tar-like urine. I have to tell ya, I was intimidated by taking care of Sunny because of this - my only experience with bladder expression first hand was attempting to void a stubborn Lhasa who refused to go potty for three days while on a trip to Savannah (my personal dog). Well, trying to force a healthy, capable dog to go when he doesn’t want to and helping a paralyzed dog go are not on the same planet. Helping Sunny go potty is terribly simple! In fact, I thought it was such an easy thing to do that as I watched Sunny cruise the sidewalks, sniffing the sniffs and seeming like he would mark if he was able, I just would reach down and help him pee a bit here and there. Maybe it made no difference to him that he now owns half the land at the tv station and at least three spots in my backyard… but maybe he loves it! I erred on the side of him loving it. Sunny is currently undergoing laser therapy on his back. It really seems to be helping him! We could use some support with this as each set of sessions is $350. (For 6 sessions) The most incredible part of all of this is… we are ready to begin the search for Sunny’s forever family. We didn’t know if we would ever be able to say that so to do so, to know he’s healthy and ready - that he has a life to live so far beyond where he started…. It’s overwhelming! Sunny absolutely LOVES other dogs. He likes to play - I’m telling you, it’s a sight to see! - and he enjoys their companionship. He doesn’t realize he bumps into them with his wheels though so doggies patient and accepting will be imperative - not grumpy monkeys. Sunny loves every single person he’s ever met. He thinks outside is so, so fun and loves walks or sniff adventures. He thinks stairs are nothing but a hurdle to be jumped so a home that includes them will need to be blockable or he will need a home without them. It occurred to me Saturday while Sunny was at my house that he was in no way the most medically-needy of the dogs in my care. The old, blind / deaf dogs are much more difficult to manage than this guy whose legs don’t work. He’s not terribly burdensome! Adopting Sunny to a family who not only loves him in spite of his challenges but loves him because of his precious disposition is our ultimate goal. He is the sweetest SUNNIEST boy and we are elated to match him to a home where he can shine! Apps @ maxxandme.orgMay 1, 2024, 10:17 am

Story
MAXX & ME PET RESCUE adoptable dogsKellan is a LOT of things One thing she is - and we think most importantly of all ….Kellan is SAFE!!! Kellan is moderately vision impaired - she can see shadows and movement, particularly from horizon level down. She is able to track you and stay by your side without effort. She navigated a zero-perimeter pool today without issue and she never once bumped into the slider, walls, or other stationary objects when in a new environment. Kellan is full blown deaf - we thought maybe she could hear some things…. But dropped pots, squeakers, all the noises later… we are sure she’s not on the hearing spectrum. Kellan is the most confident handi-capable dog we have ever known. Kellan has two senses compromised and that doesn’t stop her one bit from being the most friendly baby there ever was! She’s accepting of dogs being over exuberant and ignorant of her conditions. She’s brave. She’s adventurous. She’s aware of her shortcomings and acts maturely in response, despite being only approx 16 weeks old. (As of 4/25) We cannot stress enough how darling this little thing is. She’s MAYBE 20-25# at this point. If you’re able and willing to give our precious Kellan the dedication, love, and commitment she needs to continue to learn how to navigate life with hurdles, please apply @maxxandme.org   kellan’s adoption fee is $300  all puppies adopted from Maxx&Me are required to undergo obedience classes - Kellan’s will need to be with an approved (deaf dog experienced) trainer. May 1, 2024, 10:17 am

At 10 years young and a petite 12 lbs, I mos def don't look my age, and I sure don't act it - playful, energetic, and always curious! Whether I'm munching on kiwi, apples, or carrots, or indulging in a bit of ice cream, I live for the finer things in life (especially if they're edible!).    But don't let my small stature fool you - I've got a big personality! I'm a cuddler at heart, happiest when snuggled up on the couch or nestled in my owner's lap. Sure, I might bark at the wind sometimes (and who can blame me?), but that's just my way of making sure my voice is heard!   When my owner heads out, I might get a case of the blues, but nothing a little TLC and some tug-of-war can't fix! Come nighttime, you'll find me stretched out in my cozy bed, dreaming of tomorrow's adventures. And speaking of adventures, I'm always up for a stroll, especially if it's followed by a tasty meal.   Whether I'm keeping my owner company in the office or stealing extra cuddles, one thing's for sure - life with Bella is always an adventure!   Bella's adoption fee is $400 To apply to foster or adopt please fill out application at www.heidislegacydogrescue.com/apply-to-foster-or-adopt Thank you for completing the application.
