Story
*Ezekiel** 📍 Location: Decatur, IL **NO SMALL CHILDREN UNDER 6** Application: [leiashope.org](http://leiashope.org) Ezekiel is a little guy surrendered to rescue due to having two open fontanelles. The smaller one has closed and the larger one is nearly closed, but it will likely remain for the rest of his life. An open fontanelle, or “soft spot,” means there is no bone protecting part of his brain, making him more susceptible to injury. Care must be taken to prevent hard hits or punctures (from teeth, claws, falls, or bumping into hard surfaces) to the top of his head. Ezekiel is also believed to have **mild hydrocephalus** and has recently begun having seizures. He is now on **daily anti-seizure medication** to help manage them. Hydrocephalus affects his ability to be house trained — he is not house trained and frequently marks or has accidents indoors. This is a common side effect of hydrocephalus and not simply stubbornness, though he is otherwise an active, playful puppy who in many ways acts like a normal dog. This spunky boy loves to play and can entertain himself, but he also enjoys romping with the foster’s gentle dogs. His favorite game is being chased — he’s very fast and sometimes slows down just so they can catch him before zooming off again. He’s especially attached to another toy poodle in the home and will follow him around begging for play. Ezekiel sleeps in bed with his foster mom but may need to potty during the night, so he wears a belly band. With multiple dogs and puppies in the foster home, it’s challenging to catch him every time, so he’ll need an adopter who is very vigilant indoors. He is a picky eater and often eats best when he thinks someone else wants his food. He eats in his crate because he is slow and can be food aggressive toward other dogs if they approach his meal. His diet includes a rotation of raw, freeze-dried, and some kibble to encourage eating. While Ezekiel enjoys some cuddle time, he does not like being carried — he wiggles to get down, which is dangerous given his condition. He should be placed gently on the ground if he wants down. **Requirements:** * No small children under 6 * No large dogs in the home * No mobility issues in the household * Someone who understands his medical needs and can love him as he is * Secure home environment to keep him safe Ezekiel’s adoption fee is \$500. He is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines, and on monthly flea and heartworm prevention. 📌 **Please Note:** * We are volunteer-run and application processing can take 7–10 business days. * All dogs are in foster homes, not at a central location. Approved application required before meet and greet. * We do not ship or transport dogs — you must travel to the dog’s location. **Dogs are a lifetime commitment. Please apply only if you can commit to his lifetime.**

Story
All Pet Central animals are up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped (registration included), and current on parasite prevention. Dogs over six-months of age are heartworm tested. When adopting, we will ensure that you receive copies of veterinary and microchip records. Records are sent via email. Paper versions are available upon request. If you are interested in this pet, please fill out the brief Adopter Survey by hitting "Apply for Adoption" on the profile above. After we review your completed survey, we will contact you by phone or email within three business days. Please note- Out of respect for our volunteers and staff, we are closed on Sunday and Monday and will not be processing any applications on those days. Please get back to us right away when we call or email regarding an application so that we can quickly connect using the process below: Select a pet and submit an online adoption survey. A PCH! adoption counselor will contact potential adopters within three business days (PCH! cannot guarantee any pet's availability, but we make every effort to accommodate adopters with a reply and possible alternative suggestions). An adoption counselor and client will then have a conversation to answer questions, discuss any medical needs for the pet and determine the suitability of a match (if necessary, we may opt to put adopters in touch with foster parents). After a match is made, clients will be asked to sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee online through our secure payment system *Please see our modified no-risk return policy. (below) The PCH! adoption counselor will then set up a specific appointment time and location. Adopters should bring a pet carrier and/or a leash to pick up and their ID. Adult pets will be wearing a collar. It is important that clients arrive on time, neither early nor late. Cats and kittens are required to leave in a pet carrier. If your adoption is scheduled at Pet Central Helps!: Upon arrival inside the Crossroads Center complex (360 Wylie Drive), look for the black Pet Central Helps! semi-trailer, which is right outside of our facility (Suite 720). Park in the parking lot and enter the facility. A PCH! representative will greet you and show you to the adoption room. Your new pet will be handed to you. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day” photo with your pet and family. If your adoption is scheduled at PetSmart – Bloomington, IL: Park in the PetSmart (1606 E. Empire St.) Parking lot and enter the store. We will be set up just inside the store entrance. Let us know you are here to pick up your pet! A PCH! representative will confirm your information and hand you your pet. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day” photo with your pet and family. If your adoption is scheduled at the Cat’s Meow Cafe: Navigate to PetSmart, park in the parking lot and enter the store. Locate a PCH! Representative at our adoption table and let them know you are picking up a Cat Cafe Cat. You will sign your final contract with your counselor and snap a picture of the completed screen. Head to the Cat’s Meow Cafe at 507 N. Hershey Rd and provide them with the snapshot of your final contract. They will get your cat and take a “Happy Adoption Day” photo with your pet and family. PCH! supports a 30-day no-fault return policy in which adopters are given the opportunity to find a better match. If we cannot provide advice/tools to keep a pet in the home we offer these options: Exchange for a pet that may be a better match** Receive a refund minus a $40 processing fee** With this approach, we can often turn mismatches into opportunities! Thank you, Pet Central Helps!
