🤍🐾 Hi there… my name is Peanut. 🐾🤍I'm a 5-year-old, 41-pound Jack Russell Terrier/Beagle mix with the biggest heart and so much love to give. I have warm, intelligent brown eyes with the tiniest speck of blue in my right eye, and I'm missing my upper right canine tooth from my rough beginnings. It doesn't bother me one bit—it just makes me extra unique! Life wasn't always kind to me. A few years ago, I was found in a sugarcane field, starving, covered in fleas and mange, and surviving by drinking from a muddy ditch. I was so sick with heartworms that I almost didn't make it, and I still carry tiny pellets in my chest from being shot before I was rescued. Because of those experiences, loud noises like thunder and fireworks can still be scary, and I'm fearful of larger dogs after being attacked by them. Thankfully, some wonderful people refused to give up on me. Today I'm healthy, heartworm-free, spayed, microchipped, and ready for my forever home. I absolutely adore people and do wonderfully with everyone—from little kiddos to the elderly. I'm happiest curled up beside my favorite humans soaking up belly rubs, giving cuddles, and enjoying all the love you have to offer. Beggin' Strips, cheese, and tasty treats are definitely the quickest way to my heart! 🧀🥰I'm fully house-trained, crate-trained, and a wonderful houseguest. I'll even bark to let you know when I need to go outside. Most of the time I'm a quiet girl, but every now and then I love to "talk" and sing with my people. I've been told I sound just like Chewbacca from Star Wars, and it always makes everyone laugh! 🎶😂 I'm great on a leash and enjoy long walks. I ride nicely in the car, although I may need a little help loading up at first because cars can still make me nervous. Once I'm in, I'm happy to tag along wherever life takes us. I'm a smart girl who already knows my name and how to sit, and I'm eager to learn even more. I do know how to climb a fence, but don't worry—I don't run away. I come straight to the door because I'd much rather be inside with my family. I truly prefer indoor life and would do wonderfully with a doggie door or supervised outdoor time so I can safely enjoy some fresh air before coming right back inside to my comfy bed and favorite toys. 🏡 Because of my past, I'd be happiest as the only dog in the home. If I ever meet another dog, I need very slow, patient introductions. I also have a strong fear of needles, so I do best with light sedation for blood draws and nail trims to make those experiences less stressful. The shelter can be overwhelming with so many barking dogs, so I'm currently taking trazodone to help manage my anxiety while I'm here. Once I'm settled into a quiet home, your veterinarian can reassess whether I still need it.
