Frannie is the kind of dog who makes an impression—between her soulful eyes and her signature hound bay, she’s not one to go unnoticed. She’s a gentle, easygoing walker with great leash manners and a big appreciation for slow strolls and sunny spots. Frannie gets along with other dogs and enjoys calm canine company, but she’s had some ups and downs in adoptive homes. She’s been returned more than once—once for humping her canine housemate, and twice for conflicts in the home that may have been linked to resource guarding, particularly around food or resting places. The concerns were directed toward a female in the home, and though we haven’t seen similar behavior here, it’s something to be aware of. She’s been with us at Open Door since 2021, and her longest stay in a home was just two months. We know she’s capable of so much more—but she needs the right person to help her shine. Frannie may do best in an adult-only home, ideally with a single person—possibly a man—who understands hounds, has experience with resource guarding, or is open to guidance and structure. Frannie’s not one to stay quiet when she has something to say—she’s a barker by nature and would love a home that doesn’t mind a little background commentary. In return, you’ll get a loyal, expressive companion who’s happiest lounging near her person, sniffing the breeze, and being included in your daily rhythm. She is close to 18 to 24 months old and weighs a bit over 15 lbs. She was very nervous when she first came to her foster home, but it didn’t take her long to fall in love with her foster mom. For quite some time she was very hesitant to have anything to do with her foster dad or visitors, but she has begun to warm up. We suspect she will always prefer the lady of the house. She gets along fine with other dogs and has a favorite foster sister. She quickly learned about the doggy door in her foster home. She readily accepts her lead and loves to go on walks. She loves to cuddle with mom and is always ready for a belly rub. She is spayed and fully vaccinated. Located in Salem, IL, her adoption fee is $275.

Meet Albert:. When he was surrendered we were told his mix is hound (his nose is always in the air or to the ground working hard, lab, and shepherd. Albert’s hobbies include winning at tug-of-war, fetching like an absolute pro, and charming his way into your heart. This little guy is potty-trained, sleeps soundly in bed with his humans, and is gearing up to be the best adventure buddy ever. Albert’s biggest quirk is being a scaredy cat. He was the pup in the litter that was picked on heavily. His sister was adopted and she was his crutch. He is gaining confidence every day but will need reassurance until he feels like he can conquer the world. It takes him a minute or two to trust people but the wait is totally worth it.
