He is a puppy at 4.5 mths old. Mator is a Treeing Walker Coonhound. He will be a large dog full grown, weighing about 60lbs, and he is a pup that is full of love. He has a lovely tri-colour pattern of a rich brown, black and white. He is a very active dog that would be great for active individuals or families. He loves to bike beside you or go for long walks! His name comes from “Tow- Mater” or more famously known as “Mater” from Cars. He is a lovable side character, with personality traits like being a bit clumsy, but surprisingly wise; He is fiercely loyal, and a cheerful ball of energy, just like our Mator. Mator was a young puppy exploring away from his home and ended up in a shelter where he wasn’t claimed. Mator was then brought into foster care. He settled right in and is such a great little pup! Mator needs proper puppy training, he is young and still as all the puppy characteristics, but he is smart and eager to learn. Mator is a puppy so there must be training and a consistent environment with an ability to focus on him. He would be best with active individuals who have the time to care for a puppy. Mator would be fine in a home with older children, over 6yrs, who have the time to puppy train and focus on Mator to make him the best dog he can be. Mator likes to sing; it sounds like a full choir but it's just Mator. He isnt a nuisance barker but when he hears some other dogs barking he does have a habit to start howling like all good hounds will do. They are pack dogs and howling with the pack is in their DNA! With the right amount of exercise when it is time for him to go in his crate at night time he barks five minutes max and then is out for a good sleep. He enjoys two solid walks a day at a fast pace, a good game of fetch, yard time, and him wrestling on his own with a toy. His exercise needs will continue to grow as he matures and he is a suitable dog for those that are very active and outdoorsy and are looking for a hiking/walking/running/biking companion. Mator requires a home with a fenced in yard so he can sniff and explore while remaining safe and not having the ability to wander. It is very necessary he wear a martingale collar when our on walks so he cannot slip out while walking because he tends to get very scared and jumpy if a truck or transport truck goes by. Due to his breed, he has an innate desire to hunt and sniff. If you let him roam free he will catch wind of an interesting scent and you will lose him. Hounds cannot be off leash outside of a secure fenced in area. Mator needs someone who is attentive and able to take responsibility of him. A favourite trait of Mator’s is he loves to make little sassy groans when you wake him up or hug him. Mater is overall such a talker whether it's quiet or loud he's always making a little bit of ruckus. Mator spends at least 4 hours a day in a crate in the house. He is very comfortable with his crate and will voluntarily walk in to take a nap. At night he also spends in a crate in the foster parents room. He is great in the crate at bed. Foster parents find that when he hears someone in the house when he is in the crate during the day he can bark/whine if he is still awake. In the car we have had some instances of him getting car sick however this only seems to happen when it is a new vehicle as well as when he ate something prior to the trip. I believe that was because he ate within an hour of leaving. If you take him in the car with little food in the stomach or at a time that is far from meal times he has no problems! When meeting another animal, Mator is very excited and has the puppy playful energy he hasn't had a one on one play with another dog. Foster parents have two pet bunnies and he doesn't show any interest or signs of aggression. On walks Mator will someone pull to smell another dog or other wildlife but he remains silent. He is never reactive towards other dogs or wildlife! Mator is also great at sitting and laying down. We are actively learning recall, but each day there is better improvement! Also if the foster parents are in the kitchen he is learning how to nap. He is learning how to lay in his bed as someone says the command ”bed” he will go over and lay in the bed for a treat. Mator will need to be put into dog training, to better himself. So he is able to have proper manners and become more aware and calm. Mator is a very healthy puppy. He is fully vetted and there were no issues noted. He is actively losing many puppy teeth. I think that's why he sleeps and naps a lot. He's waiting for the tooth fairy!! Mator truly is a one-of-a-kind pup waiting to find his forever adventure buddy. All he’s looking for is a loving home where he can be his goofy, energetic, and loyal self. I like to keep you updated on important things, like when it’s time to play fetch (which is basically always). Toss a ball, and I’m your happiest pup.
