Story
If pure joy could grow four legs and a wagging tail, it would be Jay Smiles. Some dogs make you smile. Jay makes you grin without even realizing it. This happy-go-lucky little guy seems genuinely convinced that every day is the best day ever, and honestly? It’s hard not to agree when you’re around him. Whether he’s bouncing through the yard, carrying around a toy, or flashing one of his signature goofy grins, Jay has a way of making life feel lighter. At around 1.5 to 2 years old and just 27 pounds, Jay is the perfect medium-small size! Big enough to join you on adventures but small enough to curl up comfortably beside you on the couch. We believe he may be a Vizsla or Lab or boxer Chihuahua mix, but as a rescue, breed is simply our best guess. He is playful and loves to run as well as cuddly and loyal so we suppose only a DNA test would tell for certain. Cuddly as well? Yup! Jay hops up on the couch and lays with you for pets and cuddles. He really enjoys being with you and being loved. Already trained? Yes! Jay is very crate trained. He stays quiet in his crate all night long with no accidents. He is also potty trained and does not have any accidents at his foster home. He also goes potty in the grass on command, which makes hearing for him pretty quick and easy. He loves playing with toys and this makes him extra easy to have around since he can stay occupied. He goes a lot of places with his Foster Mom since she has to run errands and go volunteer at the local charity, so he hopped in the car and rides along and lays in the backseat just fine. He follows her along for chores and stays close without a leash. He is pretty easy to just tag along and join whatever is going on that day. Jay is absolutely thriving in his foster home, and one thing has become crystal clear: other dogs are the center of his universe. He adores his doggy friends and lights up the second he sees them. Watching Jay invite another dog to play is enough to make anyone’s heart melt. He does the cutest little play hops, bouncing straight up into the air like a tiny deer or a happy little dancer. His foster family says it’s impossible not to laugh when he starts showing off his moves. His favorite activity? Playing tug with his foster sister. The two of them spend their days wrestling, exploring, sharing toys, and then cuddling up together when they’re finally tired. In fact, every morning Jay wakes up ready for fun and will gently paw at his foster sister and cover her face in kisses until she finally gets up to play with him. Watch Jay's video here to see his goofy personality in action! https://youtu.be/8yIAKj4FNqk?si=wex7bekNph_LqwAr Because of how much confidence and happiness he gains from having canine companions, we are looking for a home with at least one playful dog for Jay. He truly blossoms when he has another pup by his side. When he’s not busy playing with his dog friends, Jay can usually be found carrying around a toy. This boy LOVES toys. Balls, stuffies, tug toys, you name it, he wants it. One of the funniest things about Jay is that if nobody is available to play, he’ll simply entertain himself. He’ll toss a ball into the air, chase after it, and create his own game of fetch. He’s basically his own playmate. Jay also enjoys playing fetch with his people, lounging in the sunshine, and stretching his legs in the backyard. A backyard is a must for this little guy. He loves having room to run, zoom, explore, and enjoy the outdoors. He’s already developed an impressive recall and regularly enjoys supervised off-leash adventures on his foster’s property, happily coming back when called. Despite his playful side, Jay also has a wonderfully easygoing nature. He often accompanies his foster to work, where he quietly curls up beneath the desk and naps while she works. He also loves following her around while she gardens, simply enjoying being near his favorite people. Jay can be a little shy when meeting new people and in unfamiliar environments. He appreciates a gentle introduction and a little patience while he settles in. But once he feels safe, his affectionate personality comes pouring out. Suddenly he’s climbing into your lap, asking for cuddles, handing out kisses, and looking at you like you’ve been best friends forever. He is crate trained, potty trained, walks nicely on leash, knows how to sit, shares treats beautifully with other dogs, and has excellent social skills. He’s currently fostered with multiple dogs and gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes. He has even been used during dog assessments because of how naturally friendly and socially appropriate he is with other pups. Jay has also met cats. He may initially try to invite them to play, but he responds well to guidance and would do best with a dog-savvy cat and another dog in the home. The ideal home for Jay is one with a fenced yard, at least one playful canine companion, and people who will appreciate both his playful spirit and his sensitive heart. Because he can be shy and needs time to build confidence, a quieter home without little tiny children would be the best fit. Older teenagers could be okay, he just prefers a quieter way of life! Jay Smiles isn’t just a dog. He’s the friend who makes every day brighter, the reason you’ll laugh a little more often, and the happy face you’ll look forward to coming home to. If you’re searching for a loyal sidekick, a professional toy enthusiast, a world-class playmate, and a best friend who believes life is meant to be enjoyed, Jay is ready to show you exactly what happiness looks like.
