Story
Ole is our youngest Vizsla, and deciding to rehome him has been incredibly difficult. He is a sweet, sensitive dog whose affectionate personality shines when he feels safe and comfortable. Unfortunately, Ole has a nervous and reactive nature, particularly around our older Vizsla, Rooney. Over time, it has become clear that the relationship between the two dogs creates stress for both of them, and each is noticeably more relaxed and at ease when the other is absent.Ole can be protective of his personal space and may bark, growl, or react defensively when approached unexpectedly, especially while resting. However, when interactions happen on his terms, he is much more relaxed and accepting of affection.We believe Ole would thrive as the only pet in a quiet home with a patient owner, ideally someone experienced with Vizslas or sensitive dogs. Our hope is that a calmer environment will help him gain confidence, relax, and become the happy dog we know he can be.

Located in South Riding, VA Meet Bubba After spending almost 10 months in the shelter, Bubba is finally getting the chance to experience life in a home — and this handsome boy is off to a wonderful start. Bubba was understandably a little nervous when he arrived, but he has settled in quickly and sleeps quietly in his crate all night. He’s also had no accidents in the house and knows to do his business outside. He’s curious about his new surroundings and enjoys getting out for walks. His leash skills need a little polishing, but he just needs practice and direction. Bubba also prefers to enjoy his meals without other dogs nearby, so giving him his own space at mealtime is best. There’s still so much to learn about Bubba as he decompresses and discovers what life outside the shelter is all about. For now, we know he’s a sweet, curious boy who is adjusting beautifully and deserves the time to show everyone just how special he is. Bubba has waited a long time to find his forever family. Could it be you? ❤️ This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito producing a positive test in six months. OPH will treat the dog and provide two weeks of recovery time prior to adoption. Potential adopters will receive detailed information on the disease and their role in completing the recovery process from OPH’s heartworm coordinator. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable. Current Location: Linden, VA Hi, I’m Chewie! 🐾 I’m a handsome guy with a big heart and lots of love to give! I’m super sweet, love everyone I’ve met, and get along great with other dogs and even cats. I may bark at the cat sometimes, but I’m just being playful! I’m still a young pup learning my manners, but I am very trainable. I’ve made great progress with my house training, too! I am generally pretty easygoing. I do get excited when my people come home, though, and I’m still working on my enthusiastic greetings and keeping all four paws on the ground! If you’re looking for a big, affectionate, social pup who gets along with other animals and is eager to learn, I could be just the guy for you! ❤️🐶
