Our dogs are spayed/neutered prior to adoption; microchipped with free lifetime registration; and up to date on DAPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccinations (when age appropriate) and deworming and heartworm treatment/prevention. Adopters can also earn a $100 training refund if they attend (6) hours of any in person training course.  Long Distance adopters (one hour or more from Spokane) may choose to travel to Spokane to pick up their dog or use our monthly transport option, Puppy Delivery Express, for an additional delivery donation of $250. Puppy Delivery Express currently delivers dogs throughout Washington and to parts of Montana, Idaho, and Oregon. About Path of Hope Rescue At Path of Hope Rescue, our goal is to make EVERY DOG. WANTED. Our two employees and army of volunteers focus on transporting pregnant dogs and puppies from Texas, the number one kill state in America. The dogs we rescue are in poor living conditions and on euthanasia lists in shelters that are inundated with unwanted animals. We want to give these dogs a chance and bring them to the Pacific Northwest to find adoptive, loving homes. We are 100% foster based; our dogs are fostered in loving homes where they are house and crate trained and learn basic obedience and leash skills. Dogs experience socialization opportunities with people, places, and other animals, and they receive the attention required to become well-rounded, healthy, and affectionate dogs that they would not otherwise receive in a shelter environment. Our commitment does not end when the dog is adopted. Path of Hope offers post adoption owner support including information on making the dog’s transition to your home a smooth one; recommendations for Preferred Trainers; advice on pet behavior and wellness topics; Facebook litter groups to keep in touch with fellow adopters; and invitations to local rescue hosted events.  Please visit https://www.pathofhoperescue.com/ for more information about our organization and the adoption process. ##2373749##

Story
Floki, (now shortened to Loki), has been returned due to being the wrong breed fit for the Family we chose for him. There is a 6 yr old boy in the home that has "done something" according to the mom, while unsupervised and Floki now dislikes the boy and growls when he enters the room. The other two kids he's perfectly fine with. The parents are also concerned about Floki's level of protectiveness, and don't like the way he behaves (wary, watchy and low growls occasionally ) when company is over. Therefore, they have decided they aren't the people for him, don't know how to fix what is developing in his behavior and would like to return him for rehoming before he actually harms the offending boy. This is what they had to say about him; Loki is a great dog. Most of the time he is much calmer than I'd expect him to be at under 2 years old, but his playful attitude comes out when you get him around other dogs (or he tries to play with the humans if he hasn't had enough stimulation). He does really well when there is one other dog and him to run around and play with. We have a neighbor with a similar age poodle mix and they get along very well. We've noticed if he ends up playing too hard with our neighbor's dog and she yelps from him nipping her or something, he understands what that means and plays slightly less intensely. He loves to run and could use a bigger yard than ours. We have about 1/4 acre lot. He also likes to play wrestle with our kids, except one, and play fetch. Loki would do great with a dog door I think. We don't have one and I find myself letting him in and out quite often, or just leaving the door open for him because he likes to wander from inside to outside pretty frequently. He also seems to LOVE the snow! He wants to eat it and prance in it and it is adorable and a fun way to interact with him. Loki is very food/treat motivated. He reliably sits and lays down using "sit" and "down" commands. Unless distracted, he is great at staying with us off leash when we walk around our neighborhood and has decent recall (especially if you have a treat). He also has been taught to lay down before he is let inside (or through a gated area of the house). It has helped with him scratching at things, although he still does so on occasion. He walks well on a leash unless he is distracted. We worked with him on loose leash walking, which he still needs a little practice, especially since we didnt take as many walks in the winter months, but when we were walking more often in the summer/fall, he was doing a great job! He jumps up on people quite a bit even though we've been working on it. He barks when he sees people or other animals outside and when people come to our house in a protective, defensive way, but otherwise he isn't super vocal. Loki does great in cars and loves to ride with us. He definitely likes to be involved with whatever his humans are doing and go where ever they are going. When we do leave him home alone, he does well free roaming the house. He does well being in a crate when he has a bone, kong with peanut butter or frozen greek yogurt and kibble, or a bully stick when left alone. Otherwise, he can get into things. Definitely want to keep food up and away from him, and possibly even closed off from him if you leave him alone. He will find a way to get into it. We also keep him unkenneled at night and he does a great job just sleeping on his dog bed or the couches. He does not have accidents inside ever. This was his original post from August of 2024; Floki is a 7-month-old neutered male purebred, DNA tested. He is not a Rottie or a Rottie mix! Please Google the breed and do your due research before applying. Floki is a young adolescent male Catahoula. He is very smart, and loyal, but also stubborn and thinks he's smarter than me. He test his boundaries once in awhile to see how far he can get away with something. He is super smart and very treat motivated. He has excellent off lead recall. He does have a large assortment of chew toys and seems to stick to them nicely. He is not an excessive barker. He does alarm bark when visitors arrive. He is excellent with other dogs of all sizes. He has been raised from 5 weeks of age, when he came in to Rescue with his mom and littermates, on a small family farm. He is used to being around horses, cows, goats, and free range farm fowl of every species. That said, he CANNOT be trusted around the fowl unsupervised. This is a lack of impulse control that most puppies his age go through. He may grow out of it, most do. He may not. Best to keep him well supervised if you have fowl. He also is good with cats most days, but does like to chase them if they'll run. My old cats hate him, and my young ones play with him. He is crate trained, but currently (since it's gotten nice out) prefers to sleep outside on the back deck with our LGD (Great Pyrenees mix dog) He seems to take her job of night time patrol for predators to heart and does a very good job at it with her. He adores children, but is very exuberant with them and jumps up and sometimes knocks them down. He rarely jumps up on adults. He rides in the car great. He likes baths. He's terrible on a leash, hates it. Needs more work there for sure. Please ask if you have any other questions.
