Story
Buddy Holly Have you ever looked into the eyes of a dog? I mean really looked. Hi.My  name is Martha. Buddy asked me to  write his bio since his English is not good. Although I have never met Buddy, I have looked into his eyes in the photos taken of him. In them I have found kindness, earnestness, love, and vulnerability. I have owned and cared for three Brittanys from their youth to their elder years. Without a doubt, I can tell you that the elder ones are a delight and eager to please.  Buddy at 9 years is a liver and white Brittany mix currently being fostered in Michigan. He is curious and playful, but also has a mellow side to him.. In broken English Buddy tells me he loves to run around the yard with surges of  joyful enthusiasm. After his energy runs out, he likes to relax with a nap or snuggle.   Going for a walk is one of his preferred activities. His stuffed animals and squeaky toys are his treasures, and he can be seen showing them off with pride wherever he goes. He tells me that when he plays with his squeaky toys, he pretends to be one of them and tries to squeak back, hoping to sound like his namesake. However, he realizes this is a lost cause and contents himself with burping now and then. Buddy is house trained and crate trained. Since he is not a fan of other dogs,  he tells me he would be happy to be the only pet his home. He is informed me that he would prefer to be in a calm home with adults or older kids familiar with canine behavior who can give him the space he need and appreciate his relax relaxed way of life. Although he has not been tested with children, his calm and engaging manner would more than make up for this.  Buddy is a sturdy dog who is in excellent health and takes no medications. He is a serious alarm system. He will let you know if something out of the ordinary is going on around the house. He has an impish strain, such as digging when bored. He will be at his best if he has structured play time or organized activities to occupy his inquisitive mind. Buddy is a dog with healthy contrasts. He is able to juggle joy and companionship. He can be playful without being overwhelming, devoted without being clingy, and thoroughly faithful.  Buddy wants you to know the following:  " I don't drink alcohol or use illicit drugs. I don't smoke or drink coffee. I have never been arrested. You will find me to be of sound character. I may have bursts of enthusiasm, but I also like to snuggle on the couch and watch Netflix with you."   Could you be the one to give this sweet boy the forever home he deserves? Meet Dee -- This Michigan girl is a bright, playful girl with a big heart and an even bigger zest for life. Friendly and outgoing, she loves meeting new people and greets strangers with happy enthusiasm. Dee gets along wonderfully with other dogs and enjoys spending time playing with her canine friends. She’s also great with children, making her a wonderful candidate for an active family looking for a fun-loving companion.   This energetic girl thrives on activity. Walks, car rides, and playtime are some of Dee’s favorite things, and she’s happiest when she has plenty of opportunities to burn off energy during the day. After a good day of exercise and fun, she’s ready to settle in and relax with her people in the evening.   Dee is housebroken and even rings a bell to let you know when she needs to go outside—such a smart girl! While she hasn’t had extensive formal training yet, she already knows “sit” and is eager to learn more. With consistent guidance and positive reinforcement, Dee will continue to blossom into an amazing companion. She’s used to wearing a collar and leash but is still learning leash manners and may jump up when she gets excited.   Like many young, active dogs, Dee has a few quirks. She occasionally chews or digs and tends to gulp her meals, so a slow-feeder bowl is recommended. She’s comfortable living as a house dog and can adjust to kenneling when needed. Her reactions to cats is unknown, so any introductions should be slow and supervised.   Dee would do best in a home that has a physically fenced yard, companion dog and parents who are home most of the time that can provide plenty of daily activity, enrichment, and continued training. Story
Buddy is a one-year-old, handsome fellow. He is part Brittany, part Basset Hound. Buddy had a rough start in life, growing up with 6 of his littermates in the same house after his owner passed away. He was bullied quite a lot and didn't get much human attention. He is making up for that now. He LOVES being with one attentive person. He does not like being left alone and will be by your side every moment that he can. He is very smart and has learned not to jump up on people. He has learned to sit, give a paw, give another paw, and lie down, all within about a month. So the more time you spend with him, the more he will learn.   He does not like being kenneled and will whine loudly if confined. This will need to be worked on.  Buddy enjoys sleeping with his humans at bedtime and will lie quietly on the bed throughout the night. Buddy will need someone who can spend a lot of time with him, and he will need to be crated when left alone. He tends to be very mouthy and will try to investigate and chew on most things, so it’s important to puppy-proof your home. He is also learning to fetch and loves watching and chasing birds. With those long legs, fortunately, he does not attempt to jump fences! Buddy's adoption fee is $400  to offset the cost of vetting and to help other rescues in need.
