Story
Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement—Kennel License #2617Could he do well with kids? Yes, on a kid-by-kid basis.Could he do well with other dogs? Yes, on a dog-by-dog basis.Has this dog lived with cats? Unknown. [The Lycoming County SPCA does not “cat test” dogs per the Association of Shelter Veterinarian’s Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters.]---What volunteers have to say about this animal:Meet Henry – Sweet Senior, Professional Lap-Seeker, Loyal Little ShadowSome dogs want to show you their tricks, some want to play fetch, and some just want to know where their favorite person is. Sweet Henry falls firmly into that last category. This older gentleman is blind, which can make unfamiliar places feel overwhelming, but what he wants most is simple: to find his person and be close to them. What Henry Is Like:- A sweet senior who loves being close to his people- Sometimes uncertain in unfamiliar surroundings, but comforted by a familiar presence- Very affectionate once he finds someone he trusts- Curious about new people and other dogs- More interested in companionship than toys or gamesHenry spends a lot of time wandering around and searching for company. And when he`s found it? Well, he makes his feelings known! He wants to get as close as possible, gently insisting on attention until he can settle into a lap. If you`re looking for a dog who will remind you that the best place in the world is right beside someone who loves you, Henry might be your guy.Because Henry is blind, he may need a little extra patience as he gets used to new spaces, sounds, and routines. A calm, predictable environment and people who let him explore at his own pace could help him feel more secure. He`s not here to win any fetch championships or show off a long list of tricks. Henry`s specialty is companionship, and he`s ready to bring plenty of heart to the right home.Henry`s Ideal Home Looks Like:- A patient family willing to help him navigate the world with confidence- A comfortable home with a steady routine and lots of love- Someone who won`t mind sharing their lap with a very devoted little friendHenry may not see the world the way other dogs do, but he knows a good person when he finds one. Could you be the loving, reassuring companion he`s looking for? Come meet this sweet boy and give him a chance to find his way into your heart.---Condensed Staff Assessment Notes: Henry is an older dog with some physical limitations, most notably blindness, which can make him uncomfortable in unfamiliar spaces to start. Throughout the assessment, he often searched for me, wandering the room and whining. Once he found me or I approached him, he became frantic for interaction, trying to get as close as possible and pawing at me until he settled in my lap.He doesn’t seem to know cues or show interest in play, and it’s unclear if he heard the startling sounds or if he was merely unbothered. However, he handled meeting strangers and another dog well, displaying curiosity before wandering off on his own.---For more resources to help with any step of your adoption journey go to: https://go.petadoptiongateway.com/LycomingDT
