Story
WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.NAME: Ella MaeBREED: Wheaten TerrierDOB: March 25, 2020GENDER: femaleHome Recommendation: Ella Mae would thrive in a patient, loving home that understands she is still learning how to be a dog and needs time to come out of her shell. She is a sweet, gentle girl who is beginning to enjoy exploring her surroundings at her own pace, and she would do well in a variety of homeswhether with young children, older kids, or adults onlyas long as her family is kind and respectful of her shy nature. A calm environment with consistent routines will help her feel safe and build confidence over time. With reassurance, encouragement, and a little patience, Ella Mae will continue to blossom and show more of her affectionate personality each day.Personality: Ella Mae has a gentle, curious personality that is just beginning to shine. She enjoys the simple things, like looking out the window and quietly exploring her new surroundings at her own pace. One of her cutest traits is how she nudges a ball with her nose, showing a playful side that is slowly emerging. She is very sweet with children and has been good with them, often choosing to sit right at someones feet wherever they are in the house, just to feel close and safe. Ella Mae is a calm, loving companion who finds comfort in being near her people and is sure to grow more confident as she continues to settle in.KIDS: YesDOGS: YesCATS: Unknown, but cat test can be done for approved adoptersTraining: Ella Mae is off to a wonderful start with her training. She sleeps peacefully through the night in her crate without any whining or barking and has had no accidents, showing great early habits. She is doing very well with her potty routine, consistently going outside and keeping a clean track record in the home. On leash, she is still getting used to the experience and can be a little jumpy at times, but she does not pull and prefers to walk calmly while exploring her surroundings.WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Ella Mae were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.Visit WiseAnimalRescue.org to fill out an adoption application.Adoption areas include: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.
