Story
🐾 Meet Rossie!Rossie is a 1-year-old Whippet mix with a happy heart, endless enthusiasm, and a serious love for playtime! This handsome boy is playful, energetic, and always ready to have some fun. Whether he’s racing around the backyard, playing fetch and tug, or following his people from room to room, Rossie is happiest when he’s included in the action.Rossie has spurts of high energy and would make a fantastic running or hiking buddy for someone who enjoys an active lifestyle. A fenced yard would be a huge bonus because this boy LOVES to run and zoom around! After he gets his energy out, he’s more than happy to settle down for a nap and relax near his favorite people. One of Rossie’s favorite things is simply being with his humans. He is affectionate, social, and tends to follow his people wherever they go. He is also wonderful with other dogs and loves to play! In a home with another playful pup, Rossie would likely be thrilled to have a built-in best friend. He has also done well around cats and has shown no obvious prey drive.Rossie is great with new people and is pretty much an instant friend. He has been around older children and has done well with them. Because he is young, energetic, and sometimes gets mouthy when excited, he would do best with children who are comfortable around an enthusiastic young dog. He may accidentally knock over a smaller child during one of his energetic moments, so supervision and continued training will be important.Rossie is mostly house trained, although he may have an occasional accident if he isn't taken outside on time. He knows sit and is continuing to work on his manners. He is also working on crate training. When left loose in a puppy-proofed area of the home, he does well and hasn't shown destructive behavior. He can experience some separation anxiety and may cry or whine when his people first leave, so his new family should be prepared to continue working on this with patience, positive reinforcement, and gradual alone-time training.Rossie is looking for a family who will give him routine, exercise, playtime, training, and lots of love. A fenced yard and another playful dog would be wonderful, but most importantly, he wants people who will include him in their lives and help him continue growing into the amazing adult dog he's meant to be.And according to his foster, “Rossie is amazing. He is the cutest.” We couldn't agree more! ❤️Rossie's Favorites:🐾 Running around the backyard🎾 Fetch🪢 Tug-of-war🐶 Playing with other dogs❤️ Following his people everywhere🦴 Treats😴 A good nap after playtimeRossie is neutered and on monthly preventative. If you're looking for a fun-loving, happy, playful companion who is ready to join you for adventures and then happily hang out by your side, Rossie may be your perfect match!Apply to adopt at: https://www.woofanimalrescue.org/adoptThis dog is currently located in Chicago's southwest suburbs and can be seen by appointment once an adoption application is completed and approved by the rescue. Story
Zuma is part of a litter of Whippet-mix puppies that came to us from Illinois Doberman Rescue after being discovered in the barn where they were born. Having had very little contact with people early in life, the puppies arrived understandably scared, under-socialized, and overwhelmed by the world around them. Many of the puppies are black, but only sweet Zuma sports an adorable mohawk on her neck that makes her extra special. Since arriving in foster care, Zuma has been learning the comforts of a home and what it means to play, trust, and simply be a puppy. While she is still shy around new people, startled by sudden noises, and nervous about car rides, she has gained tremendous confidence by watching and mirroring the resident dogs in her foster home. Zuma has made wonderful progress in potty training as she has had no accidents in the house for weeks. Zuma sleeps through the night either in her crate or in the family's bed. She knows several basic commands, including sit, down, and touch, and continues to learn and grow every day. Her favorite things are squeaky toys, dog puzzles, and retrieving treasures from the yard or around the house to proudly show her foster mom. She spends her afternoons in the home office serving as her foster dad’s loyal co-worker and is always the first dog in the kitchen when meal preparation begins. Her foster mom loves that Zuma's spirited personality is emerging. For example, Zuma has absolutely no concept of privacy when someone is in the bathroom and Zuma gives a little whine if she feels she isn't getting enough pets on the couch while watching Netflix with the family.. While Zuma is comfortable and happy within her familiar world of home and backyard, she is still fearful of unfamiliar environments. Walking on a leash is not something she is ready for yet, and car rides, sudden noises, changes in the household, and meeting new people can be overwhelming for her. Zuma will thrive in a home with a securely fenced backyard and confident dog companions who can continue helping her build confidence and navigate the world. She needs a patient, understanding adopter who will respect her pace, celebrate her progress, and help her work through her fears with kindness and consistency. With time, love, and the right environment, Zuma will continue to blossom into a devoted, affectionate, and entertaining companion.
