They arrived in the US on 28th January 2025 and were transported to the rescue where they are settling in. MERLIN was cleared by the US canine center for diseases upon entry into the US. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm and tick tested negative, is on monthly preventatives, microchipped, weighs around 40 pounds and has an estimated date of birth or 4 December 2022. Stray dogs in Oman are referred to as "Wadi Dogs" and are a mix of the popular sighthound breeds, specifically thought to be descendents of the majestic Saluki and other smaller breeds, many resembling whippets with their small agile frames. If not saved these dogs are often shot or brutally ran over and left for dead. We are looking for families that have the lifestyle that the dog needs to lead a healthy, both mentally and physically life, who can afford a GOOD quality food, toys and treats and understand the importance of veterinary wellness checks. HATTIE's story is that she was found as a young pup in a busy tourist area in Muscat where dogs are either shot or run over and left for dead. Sadly her mother and all 5 of her siblings had been shot and she was the only survivor. Hattie was taken to a wonderful Omani lady who cared for along with a lot of other dogs. Whilst she spent most of her time in a large crate where she could stand and stretch and was taken out for bathroom breaks. She only got to go on walks twice a week when volunteers would come and help with the dogs. Stray dogs in Oman are referred to as "Wadi Dogs" and are a mix of the popular sighthound breeds, specifically thought to be descendents of the majestic Saluki and other smaller breeds, many resembling whippets with their small agile frames. Thankfully, they were taken in by Muscat Dog Adoption Rescue. His sister was adopted. With no local interest, DEXTER was chosen to travel to Maine in hopes of finding his forever family. Stray dogs in Oman are known as “Wadi Dogs”—a unique mix of sighthounds like the elegant Saluki and smaller agile breeds, often resembling whippets. If not rescued, many of these dogs face heartbreaking outcomes. After being at the rescue a few months on 7 May, Rita was lucky enough to be chosen to go for a day out on our Lets go for a Walk, Doggy Day Out Program.  She was initially very scared, but soon settled down. She left at 10am and came back to the rescue today at 4pm after a wonderful break away from the kennels - she was so scared when I brought her out but Kelly emailed me not long after getting home saying she is doing great. It just sometimes takes a little time to get away from the stress of the kennels and not have all the energy to feed off and be able to relax... and relax she did. She had a nap on the couch and was even dreaming, which shows how comfortable she was, she saw the cats and gave a low growl when cat approached but nothing other than that. She met another dog who she happily shared the couch with and my absolute favourite is she met the parakeet, FRED, who apparently wanted to nibble on her nose. That photo made me laugh so much. So a wonderful relaxing day for this sweet girl, this is the fist time she ahs been in a house and for her first time away from her Omani friends she did amazing.
