Gigi is a gentle 12 year old Xolo/Chihuahua mix with a heart full of love and a simple wish—to curl up in your lap and nap the day away. She walks beautifully on a leash, enjoys leisurely strolls around the yard, and rides calmly in the car. Gigi is easygoing and will do fine with or without a fenced yard. She’s doing great with her potty routine. If there’s another dog in the home, she’d prefer a fellow senior or calm companion. Gigi is best suited to a quiet home without small children. GiGi does require a home with a fenced in yard. If you’re looking for a calm, loving lap buddy to share peaceful days and gentle walks, Gigi is ready to be your perfect companion. GiGi is spayed, up to date on all vaccines, heart worm negative and on heartworm preventative, had a dental, de-wormed, and microchipped. GiGi’s adoption fee is $275.00. Hi, I'm Cordelia! I'm a senior lady who has sadly had to come back to the shelter in hopes of finding my last forever home. I was adopted a few years ago and loved dearly but sadly my owner had to go to a nursing home and so I'm back here. I'm a sweet girl but I do have diabetes and a hard time seeing/hearing. Can you give a loving senior girl like me my last home? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop   ##1492386##

Meet Picadilly, a 5 year old 10 pound Chihuahua Pug mix.  Picadilly is full of life and loves life and all that goes with it.  She’s a happy fun curious little girl.  She’s very loveable and she loves to nuzzle her head under your chin. Picadilly gets along well with the other small dogs in her foster home and sees the cat as just another dog.   She gets the zoomies about once a day and after that you will find her sleeping calmly in her dog bed.  After a long day, she enjoys relaxing next to you or on your lap on the couch. She is just learning to walk on a leash, so a fenced yard is recommended to allow her outside for bathroom breaks. Picadilly does tend to be a barker, especially if she sees a squirrel outside the window, so she would probably not be good for apartment living.  She would also be best in a home with older children who will respect her boundaries.  She’s mostly potty trained if she’s let out often.  She sleeps in the kitchen at night with her foster siblings, but I’m sure she’d rather be in bed with you. She loves her toys and her treats.  She does tend to get a little cranky if she thinks another dog might be wanting her food.  After all she lived in a home with 2 large dogs and 3 other small dogs, so I’m sure they had a little challenge all getting enough to eat.  She’s just waiting for her home and could that be you. Picadilly’s adoption fee is $295.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. We are a 100% foster-based rescue and all of our dogs live in approved foster homes. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will perform home visits and conduct veterinarian and reference checks for each potential adopter. Meet Maggie & Jax – A Sweet Senior Duo Looking for Their Forever Home 🐾 Maggie and Jax are a devoted, bonded pair with a story that tugs at the heart. These two were found as strays, huddled together under a picnic table at a remote campground in northern Missouri. Luckily, a kind-hearted couple who are full-time RVers noticed them while passing through. They took Maggie and Jax in, bathed them, treated them for fleas, kept them warm, and gave them the love and safety they so desperately needed. While searching for help, they found our rescue—where Maggie and Jax could receive proper care and, most importantly, a chance at a forever home. Our veterinarian estimates Maggie to be about 9 years old and Jax about 10 years old. Both have since been spayed/neutered, microchipped, and are fully up to date on vaccinations. Due to neglect in their earlier years, each has only a few teeth left—but don’t let that fool you! These two are enthusiastic eaters and have absolutely no trouble enjoying their meals. Jax appears to be mostly Chihuahua, while tiny Maggie (just 9 pounds) likely has some Yorkie in her lineage. They currently live peacefully with their seven dachshund foster siblings and get along wonderfully. They are housebroken with regular potty breaks, have learned to use a doggy door, and will also use potty pads when needed. Maggie and Jax sleep comfortably in their crate overnight and do well crated for short periods when their foster parents are away. These two must be adopted together—they are truly inseparable. Jax takes his role as Maggie’s loyal protector very seriously, and the bond they share is both touching and unmistakable. Maggie and Jax are being fostered near St. Clair, MO. Their adoption fee is $300 for the pair. If you’re looking for a gentle, loving senior duo who will bring warmth, gratitude, and companionship into your life, Maggie and Jax may be the perfect match.
