Story
Meet our newest oldest dog, Chulo! This 14 year old 14lb yorkiepoo was surrendered when his owner was moving and couldn’t take him. He looks younger with his big puppy dog eyes and still has some pep in his step. They couldn’t remember the last time he went to a vet and his mouth looked like Christmas 🎄 Bright red inflamed gums and green rotting teeth 🤢. He had a long overdue dental and only has a few teeth left, but feels and smells much better! Chulo likes other small dogs and likes being with people, and can be vocal when alone. He wants to feel included as part of the pack, human and dog alike. He’s sometimes nervous at first if startled or picked up too quickly and prefers to come to you on his terms. He has some very early kidney disease and some arthritis but otherwise seems to be in pretty good shape and we are hoping has a few more good years left in him. Please keep him in your thoughts today as he undergoes his dental procedure and stay tuned for updates! Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Chulo in Northern NJ if you would like to open your home to this little golden man in his golden years. Chulo is just another of the recent barrage of local seniors in need who have found their way to us recently and are in need of extensive medical care to prepare them for a brighter future. It’s only with your continued support that we are able to show up over and over again for the dogs in our community that need our help. Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Hershey (chocolate colored) and Toto (dark brown/black) were owner surrenders to a shelter by their "breeder" who said they were "Yorkie Poo's" that did not end up looking like their idea of a Yorkie Poo. They are bonded and are looking for a new home together. Hershey & Toto are both shy but friendly. They get along with other dogs but we do not know what they think of cats. Hershey is about 1.5 years old and Toto is about 5 years old. They each weigh 14-15 pounds. A home with a secure fence and no young children is preferred. Please help Hershey & Toto find the loving home they deserve. We do NOT ship our animals. All adoptive families must travel to us to meet their adoptive dog/cat. Applicants must live within a 2 hour radius from Sparta/Andover (07871/07821). Please understand that we are an animal shelter and thus unable to say whether the dogs are housebroken as they are not in homes.
