Story
Vivian just wants to be held. She will jump up to "help" you pick her up and will be happy in your arms for hours! Thanks to Hurricane Humberto, Vivian was rescued from a rural shelter just before her 21-day stray hold was up. She completed her stray hold in rescue while attempts to contact the owner listed on her microchip proved unsuccessful. After a much-needed spa day when her extensive, stinky mats were shaved, she had a successful outing at a rescue event. She was happiest when out of the crate and was trusting of new people almost immediately, especially if they had food! She needs some practice walking on a leash and adhering to some house rules. We get the feeling she has not had much structure or training, and apparently was even allowed to jump on tables and counters! Vivian seems to like nearly all dogs, adults and older children. She's very interested in cats, maybe too much, but the dominant cat should be able to put her in her place. She can be won over with food, pets and cuddles. We are confident that Vivian will adjust to a new family quickly. Est. Story
UPDATE 11/7/25 Smooth has had playdates with his neighbor who is in love with him and calls him a Sweetie Pie. She shares that Smooth is interested, but respectful, to her 16-yr-old cat, wanting to be friends with her but takes his cues from her and leaves her alone. He loves snuggling and is not shy with new people. He does not chew on shoes or furniture and has mastered the stairs! He is confident in new places and busy social situations. Many have adopted calling Smooth "Scrappy Doo" because of his adorably large head on his low, slightly squatty, 29 lb., body! Smooth and Gertie (another LCAR adoptable) are best friends, if anyone is looking for a fun pair of well-adjusted fur-babies who will provide endless hours of entertainment for their humans and each other! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Smooth's is the product of a Pitbull mama and a Yorkie daddy. Like Romeo and Juliet, an unlikely and doomed pairing! Ultimately, an unplanned and unwanted litter was born. Smooth's original owner took him in with good intentions. However, the owner's older dog didn't appreciate Smooth's puppy energy, so Smooth ended up being crated 9+ hours/day. Smooth is now in his rescue foster home with a great foster mom and fursiblings! Smooth is in his new foster home with a great foster mom and fursiblings! Foster mom calls him "a bundle of fun" with a wonderful, easy-going temperament. He adjusted quickly and literally "hit the ground running"! Smooth rides perfectly in the car and is crate-trained. So far, he hasn't had any accidents in the house and hasn't had any other issues inside. He enjoys zoomies in the yard with the other dogs, walks well on the leash, and loves spreading out on the cool floor in the A/C. Smooth has also discovered that he likes kids, too! Smooth knows a few commands and is currently learning not to jump. Foster mom thinks there may be some dachshund somewhere in the line because of his long body. He will be a great addition to an active family! -------------------------------------------------------- Smooth was surrendered to rescue because the owner was unable to care for him. He is the product of a Yorkie dad and a pitty mama! He is good with dogs. Stay tuned as we find out more about Smooth! Story
Sweet Dawn came to rescue after a rural county shelter got her from a hoarding situation. Dawn came to us with some open wounds, possibly from being confined in a crate or dragging herself along the ground. She is currently rear-leg paralyzed and will undergo a thorough vet visit as we try to figure out why. Meanwhile, her foster mom is doing some physical therapy with her and getting her outside to play in the fresh air and soft grass as much as possible. Dawn is understandably a bit shy, but we are confident she will adjust quickly to her new active foster family, complete with children, dogs and cats. Est.
