Meet Earl
Earl is a two-year-old gentle giant who has discovered that being loved on is pretty much the greatest thing in the world. Once you start petting him, good luck stopping—Earl will happily remind you that your job is not finished yet.
But the Earl we know today is a very different dog from the one who joined Dog Squad on June 15th.
Earl came to us with his ex-wife, Eleanor, and their two surviving four-week-old puppies. He was filthy and had spent his life outside. He had never lived inside a home, but he wasn’t guarding livestock either. Instead, Earl had been living underneath his owner’s porch.
And he was terrified of the world.
When we first met him, Earl would take two steps and completely pancake to the ground. A leash was scary. Doorways were scary. New places were scary. Everything about the world seemed bigger than he knew how to handle.
So we gave him time.
And little by little, Earl started figuring out that maybe the world wasn’t such a scary place after all.
Two months later, the dog who once couldn’t take more than a few steps without shutting down has absolutely blossomed.
And underneath all that fear was the sweetest, goofiest, most affectionate boy.
Earl is incredibly gentle. He loves people. He loves being close to you. He has learned how wonderful it is to live inside a home, and he has become a professional at soaking up every ounce of affection offered to him. There is something incredibly special about watching a dog who was once afraid of everything realize that he is safe enough to be silly.
Earl is house trained, neutered, and up to date on vaccinations.
While Earl has an exceptionally gentle temperament, he is still a livestock guardian breed with the instincts, size, and characteristics that come along with it. For that reason, livestock guardian breed experience will be required for his adopter.
Earl spent the first two years of his life living underneath a porch.
We want the rest of his life to be spent knowing exactly what it feels like to belong.
