Meet RJ! At just four months old, RJ is still learning the ropes of being a dog. But one thing he’s already mastered? Being a Great Pyrenees. 😂 RJ is dog friendly, kid friendly, and full of personality. He’s spunky, stubbornly independent, and has absolutely no problem letting you know when he disagrees with your plans. He has opinions. He has selective hearing. And he’s pretty convinced he’s qualified to make all of his own decisions. But underneath all that Pyr attitude is an incredibly smart, affectionate little guy who is learning and growing every single day. RJ is the kind of puppy who will make you laugh, test your patience, steal your heart, and then completely ignore you when you ask him to come inside. Because, well… he’s a Great Pyrenees. 🤷‍♀️ And that’s exactly why we’re looking for a family who understands the breed. Great Pyrenees aren’t just oversized, fluffy golden retrievers. They’re livestock guardian dogs who were bred to think independently, make their own decisions, and occasionally question your authority. And trust us, that personality starts LONG before they reach 100+ pounds. RJ doesn’t need a family who expects blind obedience. He needs one who appreciates his intelligence, understands his independence, and is willing to put in the time, patience, and consistency to help him grow into the incredible dog we know he can be. Story
It’s hard to believe how much Stanley has grown since we first met him on June 15th. He was just 4 weeks old when he came to Dog Squad with his mom, dad, and brother. Now, at 3 months old, Stanley’s personality is really starting to shine. 🤍 He’s goofy. He’s playful. He’s chill. He’s observant. He’s affectionate. He’s snuggly. He loves other dogs. He loves children. And honestly, Stanley has yet to meet a human or animal he doesn’t immediately decide should be his friend. He’s the kind of puppy who can make you laugh one minute and then curl up against you for a nap the next. But Stanley’s story comes with something his future family needs to understand. Stanley has a Grade 3 luxating patella in his right knee. In simple terms, his kneecap spends most of its time out of place. It can be pushed back where it belongs, but almost immediately, it slips right back out. And at just 3 months old, that makes things complicated. Stanley is still growing. His bones and joints are still developing, and treating an orthopedic condition in a puppy this young is far from straightforward. Right now, there isn’t a fix. He’s simply too young and still has too much growing left to do for surgery to be an option. So for now, we monitor him. We give his body another month or two to grow. And we let Stanley’s development tell us what comes next. What we do know is that Stanley’s future family will be required to delay neutering him until he is closer to 2 years old. As a giant-breed puppy—especially one already facing an orthopedic condition—we want to give his bones and joints every opportunity to develop appropriately before removing the hormones involved in growth and maturation. And if Stanley’s luxating patella eventually requires surgery? Dog Squad will cover 100% of the cost. His family will never have to choose between loving Stanley and affording the orthopedic care he deserves. We don’t know exactly what Stanley’s knee will look like a year from now. But we know what Stanley looks like today. He’s happy. He’s loved. He’s completely unaware that there’s anything “different” about him. And he is more than ready to find the family who will love him through whatever comes next. Story
Meet Earl Earl is a two-year-old gentle giant who has discovered that being loved on is pretty much the greatest thing in the world. Once you start petting him, good luck stopping—Earl will happily remind you that your job is not finished yet. But the Earl we know today is a very different dog from the one who joined Dog Squad on June 15th. Earl came to us with his ex-wife, Eleanor, and their two surviving four-week-old puppies. He was filthy and had spent his life outside. He had never lived inside a home, but he wasn’t guarding livestock either. Instead, Earl had been living underneath his owner’s porch. And he was terrified of the world. When we first met him, Earl would take two steps and completely pancake to the ground. A leash was scary. Doorways were scary. New places were scary. Everything about the world seemed bigger than he knew how to handle. So we gave him time. And little by little, Earl started figuring out that maybe the world wasn’t such a scary place after all. Two months later, the dog who once couldn’t take more than a few steps without shutting down has absolutely blossomed. And underneath all that fear was the sweetest, goofiest, most affectionate boy. Earl is incredibly gentle. He loves people. He loves being close to you. He has learned how wonderful it is to live inside a home, and he has become a professional at soaking up every ounce of affection offered to him. There is something incredibly special about watching a dog who was once afraid of everything realize that he is safe enough to be silly. Earl is house trained, neutered, and up to date on vaccinations. While Earl has an exceptionally gentle temperament, he is still a livestock guardian breed with the instincts, size, and characteristics that come along with it. For that reason, livestock guardian breed experience will be required for his adopter. Earl spent the first two years of his life living underneath a porch. We want the rest of his life to be spent knowing exactly what it feels like to belong.
