Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Tyana is one of several dogs who were found on a ranch in the Texas Hill Country. We can only speculate, but we believe that the property owners moved away and left the dogs to fend for themselves.  Tyana's mom Lydia is VERY friendly, but her pups (two generations) are completely unsocialized, so we're guessing they may have been born after the people moved. It's quite possible that the Animal Control Officers who hauled away Tyana and her family were the first humans that she ever had any close contact with. At Windsong Ranch, Tyana is very slowly learning to trust me, but she is still extremely skittish of people in general. Getting her to walk on a leash in order to go to the vet's office is a real challenge, but we've managed it, and once at the vet's office, Tyana has remained calm and quiet. She seems content to stay inside the house, but seems happier and less anxious when she is outside. Tyana gets along well with other dogs and is very playful with them. We believe she would do best in a home with a confident male dog, who can help her see that humans are trustworthy. Due to her skittish nature, she MUST go to a home with secure (visible) fencing. If you are ready to make the commitment to devote yourself to earning Tyana's trust, please complete the application on our website. NOTE: I really struggle to get decent photos of Tyana -- she almost always looks very anxious, even when she's happy -- it's like she's in witness protection and thinks that having her photo taken puts her life at risk. In some of these photos, she is hanging out with other unsocialized or feral dogs, and moments before I pulled out my phone, they were usually happy and smiling, but as soon as I point the camera at them, most of them look like I might be about to kill them. Silly dogs. Also, in some photos, she has what looks like an injury diagonal across her face. Nope, that's just a berry stain. Tyana likes to dig, and it shows in some of these photos. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Young Bennie was picked up as a stray in our rural area, so we don't know anything about his past. He came into rescue with some skin issues which are being treated. At the moment, we're not sure whether he has seasonal allergies, or whether his itchiness was all related to Demodectic mange, which is very common in puppies and young dogs. What we DO know is that Bennie is sweet as can be! In his foster home, he loves having plenty of room for running his zoomies, and he enjoys playing with other dogs. He enjoys sleeping on a big comfy dog bed, and he is a little bit of a hoarder with his stuffed animal toys. Bennie has been neutered and vaccinated, and is ready to find his happily ever after story. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. In late 2022, a family of 7 Akbash dogs were found as strays in Emory, Texas - 2 adults and 5 pups. Trapper was thought to be the dad of the pups. He and Maria (the mom) are VERY friendly dogs, but the pups (who were estimated to be about 6 months old at the time) were completely unsocialized -- basically feral pups. The pups had to be trapped in order to be brought into rescue, but Trapper willingly jumped in the SUV to go on his next adventure. Trapper is a big, friendly boy who loves attention and is very social. In our preliminary introductions, Trapper seemed to have the wrong kind of interest in our livestock. It may just be that he's young and too hyper, but it may be that he has a prey drive that's too high for consideration as a livestock guardian. Accordingly, he is available for adoption ONLY as a pet/companion dog.  He has been very good with all the many dogs he has met during his time with us, and he showed good manners with the cats he met on his trips to the vet clinic. He LOVES treats, which helps in training, and like all Akbash dogs, Trapper is very smart. Also like most Akbash dogs, he's stubborn, and at almost 100 lbs, when he plants his butt to the ground and doesn't want to go -- through the door, into a vehicle, onto the scale, whatever! -- you have to be at least as stubborn as he is. Treats help to convince him to do as you ask. We think Trapper could be a great companion for someone with an active life -- daily walks, hikes in the woods, maybe camping trips. Like all dogs of LGD breeds, we don't recommend allowing him off-leash except inside areas with secure fencing, because he CAN run! At Windsong Ranch, we can let him off-leash in an area that's a couple acres with 5' tall fencing, and watching him run is an amazing thing! But he is VERY people-oriented, so he will run then come and check back in with us, then run some more. Trapper is just an all-around great dog who deserves the best home imaginable! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. In late 2022, a family of 7 Akbash dogs were found as strays and trapped in Emory, Texas - 2 adults and 5 pups. Maria was thought to be the mom of the pups. Before rescuers were able to trap Maria, she was critically injured, most likely hit by a car. She managed to drag herself off the side of the road and into the woods. Thankfully we were able to find her and take her to our vet where x-rays showed that her pelvis had been shattered into several pieces, and her leg suffered multiple breaks including a splintered femoral head. Maria's best shot at surviving her injuries required amputating the damaged leg so that the weight of the leg wouldn't cause further injury to the pelvis. Maria has made tremendous progress in her recovery, and now is fully ambulatory as a tripawd. She's not going to enter any marathons, but she can walk and run in her play yard with no problems. She even manages to stand firm when her pups (who each weigh around 70 lbs now) stand up and put their front paws on her back. Her pups are almost as big as she is, so she has to be pretty sturdy to handle their weight on her back. Maria is a big, friendly girl who loves attention from her humans. She will stand right next to you, standing with one of her paws on your foot so that you can pet her. During her recovery, Maria got used to using puppy pads to do her business. Now, she waits until we let her outside. She is crate-trained and seems to like her crate as a good place to escape the rowdiness of her daughters. If Maria sounds like the perfect dog for you, please submit your application here: Welcome to BARN (bluebonnetrescue.org).Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 17, 2024, 7:23 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Genny was a stray dog roaming in a semi-rural area southeast of Dallas, who showed up one day with an injured leg. When we took Genny to see our vet, x-rays showed that she had been shot with a shotgun. One of the pellets went almost all the way through the bone, but it wasn't an injury that could be corrected with surgery.  She needed crate rest while her leg healed, so she has very good manners in the crate. In spite of the fact that people haven't been kind to her in the past, Genny is very sweet and will make a great companion. She is house/potty-trained and crate-trained. She gets along well with other dogs, but doesn't seem to NEED the company of another dog to be happy. If Genny sounds like exactly the dog for you, please complete the application here: https://www.bluebonnetrescue.org/forms/form?verify=abc123&formid=3796 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 17, 2024, 7:23 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Bentley is 2-3 year old male Great Pyrenees/Akbash mix who was picked up from the animal shelter in Tuttle, Oklahoma. Bentley is a very friendly boy, gets along well with other dogs, and has been curious about but respectful of cats. Best guess is that he's possibly an Akbash or Akbash/Great Pyrenees mix, but with that big beautiful head, we wonder if maybe there was an Anatolian Shepherd in his family tree. He's estimated to be 2-3 years old. Bentley has been neutered and vaccinated. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 17, 2024, 7:23 pm
