Story
Loki is 6 years old, and until the alpha of our little pack died last month, he has been fine with any other dogs. He and the youngest dog, who is not fixed, have been fighting on and off, and it got serious. He is great with the little guys, but the dog he's fighting is an unfixed male. He loves snuggling with humans and other animals, but he has a problem with unfixed males, I guess. He was born on Christmas Day 2019. We rescued him and his four brothers and sisters at about 2 months old because they were being badly abused. We rehomed the other four as we have done many times over. As the father, he is particularly attached to me, and the feeling is mutual. I think he would do great in a one-dog home. He is fully house-broken, loves to ride in the car, and is okay with a leash. I am crushed, but he needs to be rehomed.

Story
***Bumper is currently located at our rescue in Georgia. With an approved application, he can be transported to New Jersey and available for adoption at the Tractor Supply in Ringoes during one of our monthly adoption events. An application for his adoption should be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to register or login). Questions about Bumper and/or our adoption policy should be sent to socorescue8@gmail.com; please do not call the rescue's phone number.*** In November 2023, Scott Bennett received a call about a dog that had been struck by a car and was lying on the side of the road. Once Scott was able to reach this dog and see his condition, he really didn't hold much hope that the dog would survive. In addition to being very emaciated, and covered in blood, there was a large gash on his head which was the point of impact by the car's bumper (which is how he gt his name). Scott held little hope that this dog would survive but took him to SoCo with the intent of having him humanely euthanized. But to everyone's surprise, this dog did survive the night but obviously suffered a concussion. But to everyone's surprise, he did survive the night and with each passing day, showed a little more improvement than the day before.  It took a while for Bumper to heal from his injuries and regain his health. Even after he did, he had to undergo heartworm treatment and be neutered, which is why he has remained at our shelter for nearly two years. During all that time, Bumper has shown his appreciation by being very friendly and playful with our staff. He always has a big smile on his face and is simply a wonderful dog, one of Scott's favorites at the rescue.  Bumper has been kept up-to-date on his annual vaccinations, de-wormings and monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. He is very strong and while we've been working on his leash training, he does still pull a bit when being walked. He will also require additional house training. He loves spending time both indoors and outside so a home that allows him space to run and play would be best. Bumper has also already been neutered as well. He is slightly overweight, but once in a home and allowed more "play time", he should drop those few extra pounds. We would not recommend a home with very young children as he may inadvertently hurt them since he is very strong, but should do well if the children are responsible in their handling of a large dog.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 13, 2025, 3:00 pm

Story
***Davey is currently located at our rescue in Georgia. With an approved application, he can be transported to New Jersey for adoption. An application for Davey's adoption should be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to register or login). Questions about Davey and/or our adoption process should be sent to socorescue8@gmail.com; please do not call the rescue's number.*** In August 2024, Davey was found as a stray by man who was in Georgia doing some remodeling work on a house. Davey was very thin, only weighing 40 lbs at the time when he should have weighed 80 lbs. He was also infested with fleas and ticks, which had him very anemic and full of worms. Davey also barely missed being killed after someone shot at his head, but the bullet pieced his ear instead. Davey was also very high-positive with heartworms. It took  almost a full year for Davey to regain his health so he could be treated for his heartworms, which he is now free of them, but he still has the hole in his ear flap, a stark reminder of just how close he came to being killed.  Through his journey to recovery, Davey has remained a very friendly dog. He simply loves every person he's met during his time with us, and also responds very well to basic commands such as "sit" and will even offer his paw when asked to "shake". He's also crate trained and appears to also have some house training. Davey has interacted with other dogs but has also shown some aggression towards some larger dogs. We're not sure how he'll do in a home with other dogs, so it may be best to consider him as an only dog until he can be fully assessed. We do not think he'll do well around cats. But this big fellow is nothing more than mush when it comes to interacting with people and he simply wants to be your friend. While he walks well on a leash, he is very strong. We've noticed that Davey becomes excited around raised voices and would do best in a balanced home without a lot of commotion. Regardless, anyone looking for a large Bulldog, Davey is an ideal candidate as their next best friend. Davey has been kept up-to-date on his vaccinations, de-wormings and monthly preventative care since his arrival. As stated, he was treated for his heartowrms and has also been neutered. He may need a refresher course once in a new home. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 12, 2025, 5:40 pm

Story
***   Moose is with a loving foster family in Cream Ridge, NJ.  Questions  about  Moose  and/or our adoption policy should be sent to socorescue8@gmail.com; please do not call the rescue's phone number. An application for his adoption should be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to register or login).***  His foster mom writes… Moose is a 2 year old lab mix, and is about 65 pounds. Moose spent most of his early years at SoCo and is now really to go to his new family. Moose will take some time to get to know you but once he is comfortable his love will come out in bounds. He is currently fostered with 2 dogs and has done really well after an adjustment period of Mooses choosing. Moose is still working on his potty training skills but loves long walks. Moose would prefer to sleep in your bed at night, as his current fosters spoil him, but also does well in a crate or a gated off area. When Moose adjusts he is full of energy, so be ready to teach Moose the skills he needs to be the best boy he can be. Moose is up to date on his shots, neutered and ready to be loved by you.  ———————- When he was about 5 months old,  Moose  and his five brothers were found living in horrible conditions. They initially were under the care of another rescuer and we took them into our rescue once space became available.  If you love a larger, friendly and active dog, then Moose is an ideal candidate for you! This fellow has a great personality and dreams of having a family of his own to love and cherish. He'll do very well in an active home and make a great companion on long walks, hikes and other adventures. And, in our opinion, he is very handsome.  Moose  has been kept up to date on his annual vaccinations, de-wormings and monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives as well as being neutered. He did recently test negative for heartworms. He will need additional house and leash training. While  Moose   has interacted with other dogs in the past, we'd require a "meet-and-greet" with any other dogs that he'd share the home with.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 8, 2025, 2:50 pm
