Story
Meet Leonidas!  Hi! My name is Leonidas, but all my friends call me Leo. I'm kind of a celebrity around here, but don't worry, it still hasn't gone to my head. I am one of the longest residents here at the Humane Society, I've been in their care since August of 2021. I'm an American Bulldog mix, and the birthday they helped me choose is 08/19/2016. Now that I've got the boring stuff out of the way, let me tell you about me! If you'll indulge me in bragging for a moment, I'll tell you I am one of the BEST huggers you will ever meet. I have never met someone who didn't melt right in my paws. If you give the right first impression, good luck stopping me from giving you a snuggle. I love a good treat, I mean who doesn't? My friends have taught me a lot of basic commands, and if you give me a reward or use a clicker I will listen for sure. I'm also a sucker for a good chew toy. Rubber balls and hard toys are my absolute favorite! My friends like to give me Kongs filled with peanut butter, and I can't get enough of those. I could chew on a good toy for hours, honestly! A couple of things you should know about me are my HUGE fear of storms, for one. Way back before I lived at the shelter, I was shot in the shoulder area and the thunder just reminds me of that way too much. I'm fine now from the gunshot, though, not even a scar! I also want to be the only pet in the home. Other dogs and cats are fun to think about, but I don't actually want to be anywhere near them. I think kids are pretty fun! I love to give them big hugs and kisses, but they should be old enough to understand my boundaries. I can get a nervous if you hold me too firmly, and I know some really little ones don't understand that yet.  Leo is fully vetted, neutered, and microchipped. His adoption fee has been sponsored!  Interested? Call us at 615-446-7387 to get any additional information, or to set up an appointment to come and meet him.  ##1190205##

Story
Meet Chopper! This handsome young man is only 2 years old and 45lbs. With the proper structure and home routine, Chopper has the potential to be an absolutely perfect house guest. He has done well in a crate in the past and loves to play with any type of toy. This higher energy boy loves to take long walks or play in the pool. He is fantastic with kids and loves affection! While he might take some time to adjust to a new routine, Chopper has been very good at letting his people know that he needs to go out for a bathroom break. While he can be appropriate with certain dogs for playtime, he would need to be a single dog in the home due to not wanting to share his resources. When Chopper loves you, he doesnt want to have to share with any other canines. If you are looking for a fun-loving adventure buddy, Chopper is your guy! He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations. Come on down and meet him today!

Story
Winston is an almost 2 year old American bulldog mix. He is needing a new home due to he doesn’t get along with one of our older dogs and has gotten into multiple fights, where he has bitten someone while breaking the fight up. He is dog very dog selective, and same with cats. He has been around children however does get very excited and may not be recommended. He is a very playful dog and loves to cuddle at night, play fetch and run around. Just hope to find him a home

Story
Say hello to Calvin! Mr. Calvin here might be the Calvin to your Hobbes, he's so sweet! Calvin was given up by his finder to our rescue recently but he's in good hands. He instantly warmed up and got along with everyone here as soon as we got him. Calvin is a Beagle mix, he's a bit of a bigger boy with his stubby legs- kind of like a super solid beagle but isn't short. Calvin loves getting attention, he'll bump you with his head so you notice and pay attention to him! He'll need a bit of leash work but is very eager to get to work! That is what people notice most about Calvin, is his eagerness. He will need slow introductions to other people and animals as he can warm up to others slowly sometimes. Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

Story
Bravo is my name, now that indicates two things- either, BRAVO!!! Great dog!! OR, Bravo that comes after Alpha and before Charlie. Phonetically speaking- it could be EITHER! I hail from the great city of Laredo, via the high kill pound they have. I did arrive at the rescue with my buddies Alpha and Charlie. Those two are LONG ago adopted, and I am STILL waiting! You know, it is ok because I need a very very special family and will wait for that family to come along... I am a nervous boy at first so will need a family who will give me time to get comfortable and play, I need a buddy to play with, a happy and outgoing, confident pup or dog. I have all kinds of fun to live, I have come SO far, now just need the right home to be my goofy and silly self. I will entertain you and give butterfly kisses to the best family EVER!! So hurry up and adopt me, I don't want to wait a SECOND LONGER!!! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area)

Story
Meet Sawyer, the dashing and charming boy who is sure to capture your heart. With his striking good looks and undeniable wisdom beyond his years, Sawyer is truly a gem of a pup. But don't be fooled by his mature demeanor, as there is still a playful and fun-loving puppy spirit that resides within him. Sawyer is a pro when it comes to car rides, eagerly sticking his head out the window to feel the wind in his fur. He adores going on leisurely walks, soaking up the sun rays while lounging in the yard, lounging inside on the couch, and engaging in a fierce game of ball. His taste buds are partial to anything meat-flavored, but don't be surprised to find him munching on some juicy blueberries now and then. As a unique bulldog/boxer mix, Sawyer thrives in the company of both dogs and children, always looking for someone to play and interact with. However, the verdict is still out on his feelings towards cats, as he has not had the pleasure of meeting one yet. Rest assured, Sawyer is fully neutered, up to date on all his vaccines, microchipped, and weighs a solid 47 lbs. Born in late 2015, this handsome fella is ready to find his forever home. So, why wait? Stop by today to meet Sawyer in person and see for yourself the joy and love he can bring into your life. And if you already have furry friends, bring them along to make sure Sawyer fits right in with your family. This lovable pup is sure to steal your heart in no time. ##1268465##

Story
Meet Mushi! Hey everybody, my name is Mushi! I'm so excited to meet you! Well, I'm excited to meet everybody. I'm an American Bulldog mix, and I was born right about 03/01/2022. My friends here at the shelter like to call me all kinds of goofy nicknames, like Mushy, Mushster, Mushmallow, and Mushiboy. I don't mind any of them, because that means I'm getting attention! Attention is one of my favorite things, after all. I do have lots of favorite things, though. Treats are my favorite, people are my favorite, toys are my favorite, running is my favorite, playing is my favorite... I could go on and on! I'm told my squishy cheeks and happy smile are irresistable, so only come meet me if you're prepared to fall in love! I really like other dogs, too, but I definitely have fun being the dog in charge. If you already have any other dogs, make sure you bring them to meet me so I can decide if they can hang with me. I think kids are great, but I really don't like being hugged or held, so only kids that understand my boundaries, please.  Mushi is fully vetted, microchipped, and neutered. His adoption fee is $175. Interested? Call us at 615-446-7387.  ##1992504##

Story
Remember Aggie, the emaciated pitbull puppy who was seen jumping to freedom from the back of a truck? The heartbreaking condition she was in was a sight that tugged at the heartstrings of everyone who witnessed it.  We are thrilled to share that she is doing remarkably well now! While she still has her moments of shyness and can be reserved when encountering new people, especially men, she has made tremendous strides in her journey toward recovery. With the right amount of patience, love, and encouragement, she is slowly beginning to trust those around her. Aggie depends on her other canine friends to lean on boosting her confidence, When she does open up, she reveals herself to be a vibrant and loving girl, full of personality and charm.  In her transformation, she has come a long way from her original condition. Initially, she weighed a mere 20lbs, a figure so alarmingly slim that it was just skin and bones, barely holding onto life. Now, after receiving the proper care and nutrition she so desperately needed, she has blossomed into a healthy 40lbs girl. It’s truly amazing to witness how she has come to life, regaining her strength and vitality, and embracing the joy of being a dog. The change in her appearance and spirit is not just about weight gain; it's about the newfound hope and happiness that radiates from her as she navigates her new life, surrounded by loving individuals who truly care for her wellbeing.  Due to Aggie's naturally reserved and shy demeanor when it comes to interacting with new people, it is essential that she has access to a fully fenced-in yard. This precaution is critical because, in the event that she were to escape or get loose, her instinct would likely be to run away from the situation, seeking solace in a place where she feels safe. Unfortunately, this means that she would be difficult to catch without adequate measures in place. With her tendency to shy away from unfamiliar faces and environments, having a secure, enclosed space ensures her safety and provides peace of mind for her caregivers. A well-fenced yard will prevent any potential escapades that could lead to her becoming lost or frightened, and it will enable her to enjoy her outdoor time without the fear of wandering off into unfamiliar territory. Therefore, the need for a secure yard is not merely a suggestion but rather a necessity to keep Aggie safe and comfortable in her surroundings. ##2351638##
