Story
Libby has lived the majority of her life at CCHS, so she has a long story… Libby is a beautiful and chunky ABD mix who was part of a litter of dumped puppies when she was very, very young. She was in terrible shape with a horrific infection in one of her eyes which caused her to lose sight in that eye. She kept the actual eyeball, but is blind in her left eye. It is non-painful and doesn't bother her. Libby was adopted to a terrific home when she was a baby, but when she was about 1.5 years old, her human mother developed severe and life threatening health problems and could no longer care for Libby. So, she is now back with us and is looking for a new home. Libby is a big girl, and while she was very overwhelmed when she came back to the shelter, she has adjusted very well. She can be a bit shy with people she does not know, but warms up very quickly with treats and kind words. She LOVES to play, LOVES toys and wants to be with her person. Her blindness in one eye does NOT cause her any problems and she gets around just as good as a dog who has sight in both eyes. Libby would do best in a single-person household with no other pets. She tends to be protective of her person and does not do well sharing him or her with others. We recognize that Libby's size, protectiveness, and bad eye will make it difficult for her to find a home, but we sure want folks to know what a great dog she is! She is housebroken. Please come meet Libby today!

Story
Diesel is a 5 year old English Bulldog that weighs about 68lbs. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and on heart worm prevention. Diesel the weasel is an appropriate nickname since he weasels his way right into your heart. He has a Recto-urethral fistula, which is a birth defect that causes him to leak urine into his rectum from his urethra. Right now, the vet says his condition is stable and doesn't require any intervention, though it may lead to some UTIs down the road. He wouldn't be a bulldog if he didn't require some extra maintenance, right? Due to his issue, we use wipes on his booty every time he goes to potty to make sure he is kept clean. He also has another common ailment in bulldogs...a cherry eye, but it doesn't bother him at all. Diesel is looking for his forever home and the love of a patient ,yet firm family. Diesel is still learning to be a good boy. He needs someone who will continue to work on his boundaries and behavior. This is also very common behavior in bulldogs. When excited, he can be like a little bull in a china shop, so Diesel would be best in a home without young children. Diesel does not like to be crated and would be best in a home that respects that. He has proven to not be destructive when left alone. He does have separation anxiety when his humans leave, but he settles down quickly and then mostly sleeps. He does great in doggy daycare and enjoys being able to hang out with his friends. This has really helped him with his anxiety. He is a big fan of toys and w•a•l•k•s and going anywhere you go! His leash manners are still in the works as well, but he is doing great. An ideal home for Diesel would be someone who is home most of the day or only gone for short periods of time. For someone with a regular work schedule away from home, a doggy daycare option would be best for him. This rambunctious guy does have a cuddle bug side and enjoys taking naps with his people and belly scratches. Though he doesn't require daily medications for his anxiety, he may need something to help calm him during storms. He isn't a huge fan of the thunder or any loud noises outside, really. Diesel can be a door darter, so a home with a fenced in yard would be safest for him.  If you would like to give Diesel his forever home, please submit an application at southerncrossbtr.com. The adoption fee is $350. He is being fostered in New Albany, IN. Approved adopters must be willing to travel to where the dog is being fostered in order to adopt them.
