Story
🐾Hi there… my name is Pokey. I didn’t pick that name myself, but I guess it kind of stuck. The nice lady who found me gave it to me because I was always the one trailing behind my three siblings. We were out in a really rural part of Arkansas, just trying to figure things out after being left on our own. It was scary, but she made sure we were safe. At first, she thought I was just a little slow… but the truth is, I think I just felt a bit left out. My siblings didn’t always make space for me, and my brother could be kind of hard on me. Sometimes I’d wander off and spend time down the road at a neighbor’s house, just looking for a little peace and kindness. That sweet lady didn’t know how she was going to help all of us, but she didn’t give up. She reached out to The Buford Project Rescue, and they stepped in to give me a chance. I’m really glad she did. Right now, I’m settling into my foster home and taking some time to decompress. Everything is still pretty new to me, so my friends are still getting to know all the little things that make me me. But I can tell you this—I’m a gentle soul. I get along great with other dogs, and I’ve already claimed my favorite chair in the house (I think it fits me pretty perfectly). It’s my safe spot, and I love curling up there after a day of just… learning how to be a dog again. Oh—and I’m only about 33 pounds, so I’m the perfect smaller size and won’t be getting any bigger. Easy to scoop up if I need a little extra reassurance. And I’ve been told I have the cutest little tail—it curls right up and kind of does its own happy thing. I may have been the one “lagging behind” before, but I think I was just waiting for someone to notice me… to choose me.

Story
Hi, I’m Puli… yes, that Puli—the little shadow you didn’t know you needed. 🐾 My story didn’t start out very cozy. I was left behind in a rural area with my three siblings, just a tiny pup trying to figure out the world. Then a kind 78-year-old lady found us and took us in. She didn’t have to—but she did. She kept us safe and loved while she searched for someone who could help. That’s how The Buford Project Rescue found me, and the rest is slowly turning into a much happier tail (get it?). I got my name from my first foster mom, Nina. She says I remind her of her mom’s dog—a Puli from long ago. I may be a lot smaller, but she says I have that same big, devoted heart. I don’t fully know what that means… but I do know I love hard. I’m not really a “do things alone” kind of girl. If there’s another dog nearby, that’s where I’ll be. I’ll even leave my own food just to eat next to a friend—not because I want theirs, but because together is better. Always. I love curling up in a cozy pile of pups, running beside them, and just being part of the pack. There’s also a cat here. I’ve decided it’s my personal mission to keep that cat very clean. The cat does not agree with this mission… but I remain committed. I’m playful too—give me a plastic lid (cottage cheese lids are a favorite) and I’m entertained for ages. Simple joys, you know? At night, I sleep in the den on my dog bed, usually on my back like I’ve had the longest day ever (being adorable is exhausting). Sometimes I stretch with my head down, legs way out, and my little butt up in the air—it’s a whole pose. And if you’re petting me? Please don’t stop. I’ll gently tap you with my cold nose just to remind you… more, please. I’m affectionate, loyal, and happiest when I’m not alone. If you’re looking for a constant companion—one who will follow you, snuggle close, and love you with her whole heart—I might just be your girl.

Story
**Meet Jolly – A Sweet and Shy Shadow****Breed:** Chihuahua Mix**Age:** 6 Years**Weight:** 15 lbs**Disability:** Back leg that doesn't bend (but doesn’t slow him down!)Jolly is a loving little guy who truly lives up to his name — though he might be more accurately called “Shadow” since he’s always by your side. This sweet soul has had a tough start in life, and he’s looking for a special home where he can finally feel safe, loved, and appreciated for the wonderful companion he is.Once a part of a home with too many Chihuahuas and far too little attention, Jolly didn’t get the love he deserved. He was often picked on by the other dogs due to a disability in his back leg, which doesn’t bend, but don’t let that fool you — it doesn’t stop him! He gets around just fine and still has a ton of pep in his step.Jolly’s past has made him a bit shy and unsure of new situations, but with patience and consistency, he’s opening up more each day. He’s working on his house training and is already familiar with a doggie door — a great sign that he’s adjusting well to his foster home. He’s also discovered the joy of cuddling up on the couch, though his shyness keeps him from snuggling as close as he’d like just yet. He’ll sit a few feet away but is always watching you, eager to bond.Jolly is a sensitive soul who needs someone who understands that he might need a little extra time to build confidence. While he’s very sweet, he gets sad when left alone and will sometimes howl to express his loneliness. However, he’s not destructive — he just wants to be near someone he can trust. Jolly would thrive in a home with another dog to cuddle with and help him feel more secure. We’re looking for an adopter who can offer Jolly the patience and gentle care he needs as he learns to trust again. He may not be the most outgoing pup at first, but with the right person, he’ll blossom into the loyal companion he was always meant to be.If you have a quiet, loving home and a heart full of patience, Jolly could be the perfect addition to your family. Are you the one to help him come out of his shell? He’s waiting to find his forever person. To make the best possible match for you and the pet, please follow the link below to complete the Adoption Application.
