Story
Come and take Shasta home! A 3 year old 50 lb American Staffordshire Terrier mix, this girl is athletic, energetic, loves a good swim and is ready to take on an adventure. Each dog adopted from Butte Humane Society is spayed/neutered up to date on vaccines and preventatives, socialized and eagerly waiting their forever family. What my foster has to say: "I took Shasta for a bedtime foster, and she did fantastic! She rides in the car really well. She’s a bit toy-crazy, so any future adopter should have tough toys for her, as she loves to chew. She often brings her toy onto your lap to chew on, but if you tell her to go lay down with it, she listens right away. Shasta has excellent manners! She doesn’t jump up or get on counters. She’s potty trained and did great with regular potty breaks at my house. During dinner, she showed wonderful manners again, while my husband and I were eating, she just went and laid down quietly. At bedtime, she slept in the bed all night. She was a bit of a bed hog, but I didn’t mind! I think her ideal home would be one without other animals, and with older (teenage) children, a single adult, or a couple." All dogs that are adopted from Butte Humane Society come microchipped, spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccines, placed on preventions for heartworm, and flea and tick-borne illnesses. Come down to Butte Humane Society and meet your next family member today!

Story
Heartbreak and Hope: Meet Rubble Rubble's story is one of love, loss, and resilience. This senior dog has known only one home and family for his entire life, spending his days in the familiarity of their yard. But life took a cruel turn when, at just 2 years old, Rubble lost sight in one eye. And last year, he lost sight in his other eye, leaving him in a world of darkness. With his world turned upside down, Rubble's family made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him to the shelter. Struggling to adapt to his blindness and coping with the loss of his home, Rubble found himself at risk for euthanasia due to his age and disability. But then, a ray of hope shone through the clouds of despair. A kind foster home opened their doors and offered Rubble a second chance at life. Yet, despite this glimmer of hope, Rubble remains heartbroken and disoriented. The loss of his home and family weighs heavily on his soul, leaving him longing for the love and security he once knew. His blindness only adds to his confusion and vulnerability. Rubble needs a special someone—a compassionate soul who is home all day to ease his separation anxiety and provide the comfort and companionship he craves. A home with no other animals would be ideal, allowing Rubble to navigate his new world without the added stress of other pets. If you have the heart and home Rubble so desperately needs, please consider opening your doors to him. Let's show this resilient senior dog that love knows no bounds and that brighter days lie ahead. ❤️ Excited to find your new family member at Wags and Whiskers? Story
Meet Xena! This sweetheart has clearly raised a few litters in her past, but those mom days are officially behind her — she’s retired from puppy duty and ready to be spoiled for a change. Xena recently completed training with Barkley & Co. Dog Training , where she absolutely shined — a 20 out of 10 good girl with five gold stars to prove it! She learned many new skills, including commands like heel, sit, down, go to bed, go to your room, off and more. Xena truly enjoyed training and thrives on the mental stimulation and structure it provides, which has given her so much confidence. She’s gentle, affectionate, and loves everyone she meets — especially kids. Xena is a great walking buddy and does well on a leash. When it comes to cats, she has learned to better control her impulses through training and continues to improve with guidance and consistency. To support her continued success, her adopter will receive a free training session with Barkley and Company, so you can keep building on everything she’s learned. Xena also loves hopping in the car for rides and would happily be your co-pilot on any adventure. All Xena wants now is a soft bed, a loving family, and a life where she’s the one getting all the love. After all she’s given, it’s finally her turn to be cherished. Breed: Pit Bull mix Sex: Spayed Female Age: 6 years Size: 60 lbs Arrival Date: 10-4-25 Xena is up to date on shots, microchipped, heartworm tested negative and spayed. If you would like to meet Xena, please email ResQpaws at info@resqpaws.org or call 530-713-9079 for more information. You can fill out an application on our website, resqpaws.org. Under the Applications tab is the Foster Dog Adoption Application. January 4, 2026, 12:21 am

Story
Knight is a 3-year-old Boxer mix who loves working with his people. Smart, playful, and very people-oriented, he thrives with structure, training, and daily activity. He bonds quickly, tries hard to please, and enjoys learning new things. Knight is affectionate with adults and enjoys kids, though his enthusiasm makes him best suited for older or dog-savvy children. He has lived successfully with his senior canine companion Bee. He is not suitable for homes with cats or small dogs and may do well with medium or large dogs after proper introductions. He is fully house-trained and crate-trained, walks well on leash, and knows sit, come, down, off, leave-it, heel, crate, spin, and go around. Knight is healthy, neutered, and current on rabies vaccination. He’s looking for an experienced, active home that enjoys engagement and partnership. Ideal for an experienced adopter who enjoys training and an active, engaged relationship with their dog.

Story
Meet Ulysses, a big ‘ol baked potato with legs with a huge personality to match. With some serious junk in the trunk and a wiggle in his walk, Ulysses turns every stroll into a runway moment. His cropped tail wagging on leash? Guaranteed giggle material. You might even hear the opening beat of “Stayin’ Alive” as he struts his stuff. Ulysses is easy to get in and out of his kennel, but don’t be fooled by the sad face he has perfected to get more treats. Once outside, Ulysses is happy and sassy. Ulysses enjoys a brisk walk and also leisurely sniffs of every single plant along the way. He knows what he wants to do and will not be rushed or persuaded otherwise. If you are looking for a confident character with a touch of stubborn charm, then Ulysses might be your guy! This animal is at the City of Chico Animal Shelter.
