Story
Cherry
American Staffordshire Terrier • Gentle Goofball • Play Expert • Mouth Breathing Enthusiast
Cherry may look tough with her big smile and enthusiastic mouth breathing (she is a proud mouth breather!), but don’t let that fool you — she is genuinely one of the gentlest, kindest dogs you’ll ever meet. Her “I’m so excited to-see-you” breathing sometimes gets mistaken for sass, but it’s all love. Just pure, wiggly, happy Cherry.
Why Cherry Is Totally Amazing
A+ House Manners:
Zero accidents. Sleeps quietly in her crate all night. Has integrated into a busy home with three kids and three dogs like she’s lived here forever.
Adventure Buddy:
Great on a leash and always ready to explore with her people.
Signature Move:
That endearing “mouth open, loud breathing” excitement is her love language. It’s silly, adorable, and extremely Cherry.
Play Style:
She LOVES to play and does best with dogs who enjoy some rowdy fun. She doesn’t realize how strong or big she is, so she may need supervision with smaller or fragile dogs — but she is very correctable and eager to please.
A Few Important Notes
No Cats for Cherry.
She is firm in her beliefs about cats. Those beliefs are: “No thank you.”
Dog Friends Welcome (with the right match!)
A sturdy playmate who enjoys wrestling and zoomies? Perfect.
A sensitive, tiny dog who’d rather knit? Not her ideal partner — at least not without supervision while she learns her size.
The Perfect Home for Cherry
Cherry will thrive with a family who loves an affectionate, goofy, joyful companion. She’s the kind of dog who becomes part of the family overnight — the kind who will follow you around with her big happy grin, her wide-open mouth, and her “I love you so much I must breathe loudly about it” enthusiasm.
She’s sweet. She’s playful. She’s gentle.
And she is SO ready to bring joy into her forever home.

If you are interested in this pet, please fill out the brief Adopter Survey by hitting "Apply for Adoption" on the profile above.
After we review your completed survey, we will contact you by phone or email within three business days. Please note- Out of respect for our volunteers and staff, we are closed on Sunday and Monday and will not be processing any applications on those days. Please get back to us right away when we call or email regarding an application so that we can quickly connect using the process below:
Select a pet and submit an online adoption survey.
A PCH! adoption counselor will contact potential adopters within three business days (PCH! cannot guarantee any pet's availability, but we make every effort to accommodate adopters with a reply and possible alternative suggestions). An adoption counselor and client will then have a conversation to answer questions, discuss any medical needs for the pet and determine the suitability of a match (if necessary, we may opt to put adopters in touch with foster parents). After a match is made, clients will be asked to sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee online through our secure payment system *Please see our modified no-risk return policy. (below)
The PCH! adoption counselor will then set up a specific appointment time and location.
Adopters should bring a pet carrier and/or a leash to pick up and their ID. Adult pets will be wearing a collar. It is important that clients arrive on time, neither early nor late. Cats and kittens are required to leave in a pet carrier.
If your adoption is scheduled at Pet Central Helps!:
Upon arrival inside the Crossroads Center complex (360 Wylie Drive), look for the black Pet Central Helps! semi-trailer, which is right outside of our facility (Suite 720).
Park in the parking lot and enter the facility. A PCH! representative will greet you and show you to the adoption room. Your new pet will be handed to you. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day” photo with your pet and family.
If your adoption is scheduled at PetSmart – Bloomington, IL:
Park in the PetSmart (1606 E. Empire St.) Parking lot and enter the store. We will be set up just inside the store entrance. Let us know you are here to pick up your pet! A PCH! representative will confirm your information and hand you your pet. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day” photo with your pet and family.
If your adoption is scheduled at the Cat’s Meow Cafe:
Navigate to PetSmart, park in the parking lot and enter the store. Locate a PCH! Representative at our adoption table and let them know you are picking up a Cat Cafe Cat. You will sign your final contract with your counselor and snap a picture of the completed screen. Head to the Cat’s Meow Cafe at 507 N. Hershey Rd and provide them with the snapshot of your final contract. They will get your cat and take a “Happy Adoption Day” photo with your pet and family.
PCH! supports a 30-day no-fault return policy in which adopters are given the opportunity to find a better match. If we cannot provide advice/tools to keep a pet in the home we offer these options:
