Story
Meet Jiro ??Jiro recently enjoyed a break from the shelter, and his foster family couldn’ t say enough good things about him. In a home setting, Jiro truly shines—he’s calm, gentle, and very obedient. He may be a little shy when first meeting new people, but once he feels comfortable, his playful and affectionate personality comes out. Jiro loves going on walks, carrying around stuffed toys, and spending time with his people without being overly energetic. Indoors, he’s an absolute dream: quiet, respectful, and well-mannered. He didn`t show destructive behaviors, nor did he have accidents in the house. He also showed no signs of separation anxiety and peacefully ignored the household cat. This smart boy already knows come, stay, and “go potty,” walks nicely on leash, and rides well in the car. Jiro would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a sweet, easygoing dog who’s happy just being by your side.

Story
Hi there, I’m Theo. I'm a young pup with floppy ears and a smile that my friends say could power the whole shelter. I’ve still got that fun, bouncy puppy energy ... you know, the kind that makes every day feel like the best day ever. I love to play, run, wiggle and then play some more. Toys? Yes please. Walks? Absolutely. Making new human and dog friends? My specialty. I’m a happy-go-lucky guy who believes life is better when you’re having fun and sharing it with someone you love. When I’m not being a goofball, I’m actually a pretty sweet snuggler. Once I’ve gotten my zoomies out, I’m all about leaning in for pets and soaking up affection. I’m still learning the ropes of grown-up dog life, but I’m eager, curious and ready to learn with someone who’ll guide me along the way. A team member adds, "Theo knows "sit" and will even "stay" when I put a treat down until I say "okay!" When we're walking, if I stop, he automatically “sits." If you’re looking for a joyful, floppy-eared adventure buddy who’ll make you smile every single day, I think we might be the perfect match. Come meet me - I’m ready to be your new best friend!

Story
Acoma is a sweet little love that will melt into you when giving her cuddles!Dogs: Acoma gets along very well with other dogs. She was a part of a play pair at the shelter and has done exceptionally well with her three current foster siblings, which range in weight from 12 lbs to 77lbs.Acoma is pretty adaptable and would be fine to be adopted with dogs (or not!).Cats: A home with cats *could* be possible. However, slow introductions are key. She has shown signs of maybe wanting to chase, but she definitely could adjust with the right guidance. Although, no cats is easiest.House Manners: Acoma is wonderful, and we mean WONDERFUL, in her crate and settles down easily. Acoma is potty trained, knows sit, and rides great in the car. Personality: Whether you’re in the mood for a chill dog or one with some energy to spare, Acoma is flexible. She can absolutely play and be energetic-- she is an EXCELLENT jogging buddy (take the lead and she will follow!) and loves going on adventures, but is also content to relax when needed. She’s been found sometimes throwing a toy in the air by herself, rolling on the floor, or doing other silly things (her zoomies are super adorable). But it’s clear that she knows how to settle and nap and chill and have good manners. She takes treats very gently.Little Shy, but So Sweet: Acoma is a bit more on the shy side than outgoing, but has shown great improvement with sudden movements and loud noises. She would do well in a loving environment that gives her time to feel comfortable. Kids: even though she’s shy, Acoma seems to prefer the small humans. At her first slumber party, there were two kids, Acoma did well. Overall she’s a very gentle soul and hasn’t jumped much and isn’t bouncing off the walls. If you’re looking for a canine companion who gets along well with others and loves to play, Acoma is your perfect match!Watch her video here: https://youtube.com/shorts/pzrfUHYv3UM?si=qvDRziurLrtcwjPVAcoma is currently in foster care and not housed at the shelter. Please email awdfoster@cabq.gov to meet Acoma. Adoption fee waived!!

Story
Meet Monk — a Heart Ready to HealMonk is a two-year-old pit bull/boxer mix whose story will break your heart and then immediately fill it back up again. When he arrived, he was severely emaciated and covered in old scars — clear signs that life has not been kind to him. And yet, despite everything, Monk greets the world with a softness and sweetness that feels almost magical. Monk is gentle to his core. He leans in quietly for affection, takes treats with the utmost care, and looks at you with warm, grateful eyes that seem to ask, “Are you my person?” This boy isn’t demanding; he simply wants kindness, safety, and someone who will help him continue to heal both physically and emotionally.Once he feels secure, Monk`s loving nature shines so brightly. He walks nicely on leash, enjoys calm companionship, and is the kind of dog who will thrive in a peaceful, patient home where he can finally exhale. If you’re looking for a loyal companion to nurture, cherish, and help grow into the happy, healthy dog he deserves to be, Monk is waiting—with an open heart and boundless hope—for the person who will give him the life he’s never had. Give Monk the chance he’s been longing for. He’s ready to blossom with you.
