"Captain's" adoption fee will be paid for the right home. There are definitely some requirements for this guy. "Captain" came to us after growing up thinking he was in charge (he's a little over 1 year). After topping out at 80 lbs., and not learning boundaries, he got away with everything, and not everyone can handle him. He needs consistency, and proper handling, but not a mean hand! He's a sensitive dog, and responds extremely well to positive, repetitive, consistent routine. He must be an ONLY child, however, after time, and a lot of work, "Captain's" "person" in the kennel can walk him with other dogs, so daily walks in public is successful, and he loves walks. However, this took time, and a relationship status that was built. Once "Captain" realizes his handler is in charge, and that relationship is built, he's amazing. He's affectionate, loyal, obedient, and eager to please his person. We recommend no kids under 13 with "Captain." He is not aggressive with people in anyway, but because of his size, and him still learning proper pack manners, he needs people that can establish themselves. Whomever is interested in "Captain" must also be committed to coming to the ESPCA several times BEFORE taking "Captain" home to learn how to handle him, and establish his trust, and relationship with him. This post is a little winded, but we want to be transparent, and we want a good home for this guy. He's a good boy, and we know that his people, or person is out there. Come visit "Captain" at the ESPCA if you think he's the guy for you.

She is dog selective; she came in with two other dogs that she gets along with great, so we believe that if you're interested and already have a dog in your home, that you should bring them for a meet and greet to make sure it's a good pairing. We pulled "Hardy" today from Animal Welfare. He's a 6.5 to 7-month-old Boxer mix. "Hardy" does have paraphimosis. What this means is that you see his "wink wink." Hopefully, he won't require another procedure, and the odds look promising. He will be evaluated next week. "Hardy" is all legs but is not a big guy at all. He's sweet, dog-friendly, mild-mannered, knows basic commands, and is very treat-motivated. Come meet this guy in the ESPCA kennels, and submit an application at enidspca.org. Update: We pulled "Hardy" from Animal Welfare after he sat there for over 30 days. He was diagnosed with paraphimosis, and received a constructive surgery. We really contemplated pulling him because of the odds he would need more surgeries, but we just couldn't let him sit. Unfortunately, it was confirmed today that he will need another procedure. These surgeries are typically around $500. Donations would be greatly appreciated, and "Hardy" DOES have someone that wants to adopt him!
