Story
Oakley is a magnificent 2-1/2 year old male Great Dane mix who was surrendered by his family on August 10, 2023. This handsome guy has a black-and-white short smooth coat, long legs, a long tail, and an adorable face with Great Dane features. Oakley has expressive brown eyes, a large muzzle, a black button nose, and short floppy ears. His family told us that Oakley is great with children of all ages. He is 'kinda' good with other dogs but may tend to be selective depending on the temperament of the other dogs. Oakley is very playful (like a big overgrown puppy), and he knows basic commands. Oakley has been kept indoors and is house-trained. He is sensitive/reactive if anyone grabs him by his collar or pulls him by his collar. Oakley adored HSOV Lead Canine Kennel Tech Jared Nash who accompanied him for outdoor photos on August 11, 2023. Oakley took cues from Jared and posed like a 'Best Of Show' Westminster contestant. Oakley weighs approximately 80 lbs and is strong on the other end of a leash. Oakley was neutered on August 16, 2021.

Story
Buddy is a magnificent 3-year old male Great Dane who was surrendered by his owner on February 6, 2024. Buddy has a tan short smooth coat with cream-colored highlights on his chest and paws, extra-long legs, a long curled tail, and a classic Great Dane face with black shading around his dark brown eyes, black shading on his large muzzle, and large floppy ears. These photos were taken on March 3, 2024 when HSOV Volunteer/Former Humane Officer Fredley Tynan assisted Buddy with his photo session on a bright sunny afternoon. Buddy posed like a Westminster show dog thanks to Fredley's expertise, and she treated him to a long walk afterwards as a reward for good behavior. Buddy weighs 85 lbs and is strong on the other end of leash. Buddy has already been neutered. Buddy had an unfortunate incident on February 6th when someone other than his owner walked past a room where Buddy was being housed which startled/frightened him and he reacted by biting that individual on the arm. Buddy was quarantined for the mandatory 10-day period, and there have been no other incidents while in our shelter. We'd suggest that Buddy would do best with an experienced handler and preferably someone who is familiar with the Great Dane breed.

Story
Knox (fka Hagrid) is a handsome one-year old male Mastiff/Labrador Retriever mix who was brought to the HSOV on February 24, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who had found him on Boulevard Drive in Belpre Ohio the preceding evening. Knox was wearing a collar but, unfortunately, there was neither an ID tag nor a dog license tag on his collar ... And he was not microchipped. Knox has a black short smooth coat with white markings on his chest, white toes on his paws, a long tail, and a gorgeous face with dark brown 'teddy bear' eyes, a chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. This big guy has a sweet, easygoing personality. Hagrid (now known as Knox) was quite the gentleman when HSOV Kennel Tech Kathryn Rea (Kat) gave him extra TLC while he posed for preliminary photos in front of his kennel in the Holding Area (where new intakes are housed). Hagrid appeared to be ok other dogs in nearby kennels (who were constantly 'talking' to him). Hagrid just wagged his tail and made a quiet effort to make their acquaintance. Knox weighs 76 lbs and is fairly strong on a leash (merely because of his large size). He was a pushover for 'good boy' treats when we were enticing him to go back in his kennel, and he quickly followed the scent of bacon strips which were waiting for him atop his soft pile of blankets. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Knox was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership .. But nobody called or came looking for this big boy. Knox went home with a foster family on February 28, 2024 who planned to adopt him after he was neutered .. But Knox did not get along with the foster family's dog, so he came back to HSOV on March 15, 2024 and is available for adoption. These updated photos of Knox were taken on March 25, 2024 when HSOV Lead Canine Kennel Tech Jared Nash accompanied him for more flattering outdoor photos on a bright sunny afternoon. Knox was still very much the gentleman and posed like a 'pro' for his Petfinder/Facebook/Adoptapet. Knox' black coat glistened in the sunlight and also highlighted the beautiful auburn highlights in his coat. Knox will be neutered in the near future and will soon be ready to find a home of his very own. He could also be fostered with an approved HSOV Adoption/Foster application. Since Knox appears to be dog selective, we recommend a meet-and-greet if you have other dogs in your home.
