Story
Meet Carter. This adorable little Poodle pup was found as a stray and taken in by a Good Samaritan who reached out to our rescue for help. He was unneutered and treated for ear infections and a UTI, but is otherwise a healthy boy. His coat was unkempt, but after a full groom, his fluffy white coat looks healthy and full again. Carter is currently being fostered by Hannah alongside her two small senior dogs. Hannah reports that he’s doing well. Like many dogs, he needed a bit of time to settle in and figure out his place in the pack. He’s more dominant than submissive in the pack, and was initially a little protective around affection and toys, but once he adjusted and was neutered, he relaxed significantly. Hannah describes Carter as confident, cuddly, and very affectionate. He’s definitely a people-lover and wants to be right by your side. He snuggles up in bed with Hannah at night and is social and sweet with everyone he meets. He has been around young kids, Hannah’s six-year-old nephew, and Carter was comfortable, just a bit jumpy with excitement. For that reason, he’s likely best suited for families with children 7+. Carter is housetrained and crate-trained, and Hannah crates him when she leaves the house for work. He’s not a huge fan of the crate, but if left out unattended, he is more stressed. We recommend crating him initially. He does settle in, but an adopter with a flexible schedule would be ideal. He needs time to settle in and trust his new environment. He would do well as an only dog or with a mellow resident dog that matches his energy level. Hannah walks Carter at least once a day and says his leash skills are solid; he pulls a little, but overall does well and enjoys his walks. He also rides nicely in the car and would love to go places and join his new family on adventures. Carter will be coming to the DC metro area on 12/6. Apply today to welcome him home!
