She should always be on leash when outside the house and not unsupervised in a fenced yard. 03/24/2024 Foster Feedback: Vespa has been in my care for about a month now. She’s continuing to come out of her shell and flourish in a home. Vespa can be so goofy and loves to play with toys. She’s still a number one fan of fetch and enjoys running around the yard with my dog. I have tried many kenneling techniques with Vespa, but she really doesn’t do well in her kennel. I now allow Vespa to free roam my house for the time I am gone which is up to 8 hours. She does wonderful! She rests for most of the day and spends a little time enjoying the views through the window. She’s much happier free roaming so an adopter that is willing to allow her to stay out when they’re gone is best for her. I also feel that she will do better having a dog buddy around as she seems to enjoy my dog’s presence during the day when I’m gone and will even mirror what he is doing (sleeping, looking out window, etc).  Vespa doesn’t seem to have a ton of leash walking experience so we are spending time working on leash training and not pulling on the leash. She does have a prey drive with squirrels and bunnies so an adopter comfortable with a stronger dog who needs continued leash training would be best. Thankfully, this girl is highly trainable and wants to work and learn new things! To speak to her flight risk tendencies- this is simply a precaution as if Vespa were to feel frightened she may bolt. I kept Vespa leashed in my yard when I first got her even though I have a tall secure privacy fence. As I started to trust her, I was able to drop the leash, and now she can just go out like an other dog. I don’t leave her out there unsupervised, but that is because she’d rather follow me back in after doing her job. Additionally, being more mindful when leaving the home is really the only accommodation I have to make with Vespa.  For anyone out there with heeler or herding dog experience, Vespa is the perfect mixture of what makes these herding dogs so special! I absolutely adore her and can’t wait to share all the great things that make Vespa the wonderful dog that she is.  2/28/24 Foster Feedback: If you’re reading this, then Vespa’s beautiful red speckled coat probably caught your eye. Vespa is just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.  She just wants to find her person/people to create an unbreakable bond with. She can be shy at first, but warms up very quickly! Vespa loves nothing more than to follow me around the house and keep me company while I’m getting ready for work, cooking dinner, and relaxing on the couch. She sleeps through the night on a dog bed next to me, but would be just as happy to sleep in bed with you if you would let her. Vespa is a gentle soul that just wants to share her love with others. She has a generally very calm demeanor when I’m home with her.    Vespa is not a big fan of her kennel and is learning how to calm down in it. She just recently joined my household so this is a work in progress, but I do work a typical 8 hour day, so she is getting lots of exposure and practice with this. I wouldn’t recommend leaving her to free roam right away until she’s had ample time to understand your routines.    Vespa knows many tricks including: sit, stay, shake, come, and down. She is completely potty trained. Vespa is a huge fan of my resident dog and enjoys running around the yard with him. My dog can be pretty dominant and Vespa takes his cues well. She is a master at fetch and will retrieve and drop the ball in your lap all day if you will let her.    Vespa’s forever person/family can look forward to having a dog who is obedient, loyal, friendly, and smart! Although she has come a long way gaining confidence while she has been with me, trusting new people and going new places is still pretty scary for her. She is still working on potty training, but she does pretty good if let her out a handful of times a day. I do kennel her while I am at work and at night and she does well. I put puppy pads in the kennel and every once in a while she does still go on them before I get up or get home from work, but they have been mostly clean for a while now. Once in her new home, I feel like she will back track on the potty training for a bit while she gets used to everything again. Bryce would benefit from having a confident dog friend or two in her new home. She looks to my dog a lot for guidance. I have also have watched a few dogs for friends while she has been with me and after slow intros they all got along great. Bryce does have a tendency to guard certain toys and beds from other dogs, so this is something to mindful of.  Bryce still needs work with being on a leash, she is fine with them until she gets to the end of it and then she freaks out. Because of this, Bryce's new home needs to have a fully fenced-in yard. She would not do well on a tie out. This also means that apartment life would not be for her.  I am unsure how she would do with kids, her reaction to all the new people that she has met has been the same, she keeps her distance and keeps a watchful on them. Any kids in her new home would need to be old enough to understand that Bryce needs to be approached slowly and on her terms. Although Bryce is very much a work in progress, once she trusts you she is a very sweet silly girl who just wants to be near you.To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org May 6, 2024, 5:57 pm

She is very shy and timid to new people. I would say no small children because like her previous foster said she can be a little spicy and sassy. She has a very loud bark so not good for apartments. We are working on potty training and use pee pads. Cayenne loves her food and treats! I do not use a kennel for her, but I leave an open kennel out and she likes to hang out in there. She gets along well with my four dogs and her sister. She also sleeps well throughout the night but along with her sister Tillie, she lets you know that it is breakfast time! Walking on leash is not a favorite for Cayenne. She came from a hoarding situation and the dogs never had been on leash before. Cayenne needs a very very patient human who can give her plenty of time to adjust. She just wants to be loved. I think she has become protective of her buddy Tillie, so when they are separated Cayenne will settle down a little more. 03/20/2024 Foster Feedback: Cayenne came to my house the day she was rescued from a hoarding situation, along with 16 other dogs. The conditions were deplorable, and these dogs never had the opportunity before to live a functional life. Because of this, Cayenne is a little... *spicy* (hence her name). She has a lot of spunk, and it took a few days for me to be able to pet her. But, once we crossed that threshold, she was such a lovebug. You just have to be patient with her, and she will show you so much love. She would eventually come over and get in my lap and ask to be pet, and that was a huge sign to me that she was finally coming out of her shell. Cayenne left my house to go to another foster home after a week because she was not a huge fan of our cat or my large dog, and we had initially taken in two of the hoarding dogs but only had room for one long-term. She seemed fine with my small dog though and is great with her siblings that she came with. I missed her the second I got home and she wasn't there barking to greet me! She has been doing very well in her new foster home and will have feedback from her posted soon.To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org May 6, 2024, 5:57 pm
