STAR is a foster-based rescue. All our rescue animals stay in foster homes until adoption. We do not have a central facility. If you want to meet any of our adoptables please submit an application.  Meet Chowder — Ready for His Fresh Start! Say hello to Chowder! Like his buddy Stew, he came from a home where life was… well, far from what any dog deserves. The conditions were rough, love was limited, and stability was nonexistent. Thankfully, Chowder is now safe, cared for, and finally learning what it feels like to live like a cherished family member. Chowder wasn’t as thin as Stew, but he still came from the same situation — and he’s soaking up every bit of kindness, comfort, and routine like it’s all brand new (because it is). He’s a sweet, gentle boy who loves being with his people, enjoys his toys, and is discovering that soft beds and regular meals are pretty amazing. His personality is blossoming more every day! Chowder would do great with a family who enjoys activity, playtime, and being involved with their dog. He is learning the good life quickly and is so ready for a forever home that will treat him with the love and dignity he always deserved. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a big heart and an even bigger desire to make you smile, Chowder may be your perfect match. &#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143 Apply to meet him today — his new beginning starts with you! All STAR animals come vetted, Up to Date (UTD) on age appropriate shots and testing, spay and neutered (if of age,) and microchipped. AGE DISCLAIMER: Unfortunately, most of the orphaned animals that come into our rescue looking for homes don’t bring birth certificates. Sometimes we know our pets’ ages. Sometimes we don’t. So we make our best guess based on the condition of their teeth and the veterinarians best guess.   BREED DISCLAIMER: Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label . Microchips: For the safety of our dogs and peace of mind of our fosters and adopters, STAR microchips all dogs prior to adoption with Petlink Microchips. Please understand that all dogs MUST still wear a collar with ID tags (which include your current information) AT ALL TIMES. Please remember, our foster dogs are extremely important to us-- we will always take any of our dogs back, if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog. Never surrender him/her to a shelter! Please see HSBC website to adopt. -Hover "Adopt". Click "Dog". -Scroll to "How to Adopt" - Click "Dog Application". Dakota was found on the street and her history is completely unknown. She is shy and skittish around anything new. Most likely, she was kept outside or tied up. She is learning what furniture and toys are in her foster home.  Dakota needs a home where someone will give her the time she needs to warm up and not be scared anymore.  Older, well-behaved children are okay. We do not know how she is with cats. She has done well with dogs but can be selective with her space when it comes to dogs. Meets with other dogs are required. We think there could be Cattle Dog in her somewhere. She is chocolate brow with white and weighs about 43lbs. Pictures to come. December 9, 2025, 2:29 pm
