Story
Socialization: Precious has greeted everyone who comes into the house as if they were family. He took to my brother-in-law quickly and IMO this shows no hesitancy towards men. Precious takes long brisk walks with a ROVER dog walker, who once brought her brother and dad along and all 4 enjoyed the outing. Precious and the resident dog get along fine; she tries to get him to play with the play-bow and barking or running after him, and Precious is just starting to understand "play". The dog walker reports he and other dogs sniff each other on walks, and then Precious is ready to move on.  He was a perfect attendee at the June picnic, he LOVED meeting everyone.  He is a people dog and wants to be near his people.  Depending on space, he will lie down with his head on my foot to be close. Training: Precious is a very high energy and prey driven boy. He spins and tap dances and yelps with excitement to be outside or go for a walk. When he focuses on something such as a squirrel, it takes time to get him distracted and he does not respond to calling his name. Despite his great hearing, he is very selective on what he elects to hear! In the house, with no triggers into action, he will come if you call his name and sit. He will sit for treats. Crate trained: No. And I do not think he will take to a crate.  He also isn't attracted to dog beds. He likes to curl up on a throw rug, piece of carpet, or his favorite is the sofa. Leash trained: Fairly well.  He walks at a good pace with no weaving. The dog walker who is in her early 20s reports the same; very brisk walker, straight on unless prey is detected in which case then we FOCUS. He has met other dogs on walks and is not reactive. Activity level/requirements: Precious is a very high energy dog and needs to get some running around in every day; he seems to really enjoy an hour outside after breakfast and then another hour before dinner. He LOVES being outside, running or just standing on the deck surveying the domain. Most times, Precious does not know when to stop running and it's important to stop him and have him calm down and rest. So long as he has had enough exercise, when brought in he may pace and circle to wind down, but eventually he will lie down and rest. Fence requirements: YES. Fence required, at least 4 ft.   No invisible fence. Precious is very good with self exercise and a fenced yard to run and chase birds, rabbits and squirrels is what he needs. He has not jumped my 4ft fence but he has eyed it as if he is considering the possibility. Personality: Although Precious is not a name that comes to mind for a male dog, he was very appropriately named by the person who pulled him from the shelter in KS. He truly is precious. He is very active, prey driven, loving and submissive. When he focuses on prey, he sees nothing else. When he is running, he does not know to stop. If his activity is monitored so he gets sufficient exercise, when he settles, he relaxes and sleeps. Precious and my resident dog "'go to bed" on the sofa in the finished basement about 11PM nightly and sleep through the night until 7:30. In the past month they have both been given free reign of the house during the night with no problems.  Neither is a fan of a crate.  In the morning they both are sleeping on the rug in the bedroom.  Prescious is still learning how to play and coming to understand what toys are. He is unaware of personal space and will run in front of or push by you or another dog if he is eager to go somewhere. He doesn't have a mean or aggressive bone in his body, he just isn't "aware" of others. Any type of correction must be by positive reinforcements. he wants to please and be loved. He has fantastic hearing and will hear a siren before people in the room. He's funny to watch. Health history: UTD on vaccinations, is neutered, microchipped, & on monthly heartworm preventative. Precious has a positive diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Disease and is on a prescription diet of Royal Canin Selected Protein Potato and Whitefish Moderate Calorie Adult Dry Dog Food.  I will occasionally add some cooked rice, pumpkin and a sprinkle of psyllium husk and he is thriving. No expensive bully sticks or treats for this boy; snacks consist of dog friendly fruits and carrots.  It's easy! Foster comments: Precious is the sweetest dog looking for the right home. If there is another dog in the home, that dog has to accept a buddy willingly and as an equal.  The dog walker LOVES this dog and so do I, but I can't give him the forever home he needs and deserves. Foster Location: Havertown, PA Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. If interstate transport is provided for your adopted dog, there will be an additional charge of $75.00 for the required Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI).  Typically, we are able to transport your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. *Dogs can be adopted outside the 1000-mile transport distance; however, adopters must be willing to either fly their adopted dog, drive to a location within the 1000-mile transport range, or make independent transport arrangements for their adopted dog. Transports to far Western states, from Eastern states, may have additional restrictions. ##2540593##

Story
Socialization: Webb is cautious and respectful when meeting new people, however he quickly opens up and enjoys cuddles/pets; he is very much a Velcro dog and wants to be by your side. Webb prefers slow and respectful introductions with dogs, but is generally very friendly once he is used to them. He is very playful with dogs, and would love another young dog to play with and learn confidence from. He has met children and was respectful of them as well. Webb has been working hard on staying calm around our cat/the neighborhood cats but is easily over-stimulated around small animals/prey; due to this, we feel his ideal home would be cat-free, or one with a large, dog-saavy cat. Webb is a joy to have and would love to continue to blossom with another medium to large dog in the home. Training: Webb is very smart and has learned sit, down, stay, and kennel. He enjoys learning and training and would excel in a sport such as rally or obedience. Webb walks calmly on a leash with a no-pull harness, and has been taught to sit whenever his human stops. He is also working on impulse control with the command "break", and other games. Webb will need ongoing training, and specifically training to support his enrichment needs and provide a mental and physical job, he is not a dog who will be happy staying at home 24/7. Crate trained: Webby is crate trained, and will go to his kennel on command using the cue, "kennel". However, Webby struggles with separation anxiety and will vocalize in his kennel if left alone for any period of time; he can also be destructive, with a tendency to swallow items. Webb would love a person who can be home a lot, and/or take him with them when traveling. Alternatively, another dog companion who can stay home with him. Webb does well when my personal dog stays home, and will sleep in his kennel as long as he has buddy. He does not like to be the only one left alone. His humans should use caution when leaving him alone/out without more training or removing items that may be tempting to destroy and eat. Leash trained: Webby does great on a no-pull, front clip harness. He has learned to sit/lie down when cued on walks, and will automatically sit when his human stops while walking, or at intersections. Webb responds excellent to positive reinforcement and is highly food motivated. Webb will react to cats and squirrels on walks, and sometimes other reactive dogs, but can be redirected using treats. While this has improved, he still experiences nervousness to loud noises outside of the home. Webb requires an active person to accompany him on walks and would do best with someone who can handle his strength and excitement. Activity level/requirements: Webb is a high-energy breed and will need active daily enrichment in order for him to stay well regulated. Without proper mental and physical stimulation, he can become reactive/vocal and restless. After proper enrichment, Webb will match your energy levels and loves to nap on the couch. His ideal home is someone dedicated to his ongoing training and who can balance his activity needs. Fence requirements: While he has never tried to jump our fence, he could easily clear a fence less than 6ft. As a result, a home with tall fencing is ideal as he currently does not have strong recall or any training off-leash. Personality: Webby is extremely lovable, sweet, and playful. He is a true velcro dog, and does not want to leave his person's side. He can by shy or aloof at first, but once he learns to trust you, he will open up and show his playful/goofy personality! Webb has some reservations out in public, and will need someone dedicated to continue building his confidence. Health history: UTD on vaccinations, is spayed/neutered, microchipped, & on monthly heartworm preventative. Webb has completed Heartworm treatment and will need to be retested in 6 months. He also experienced a multi-fracture in his left front leg, and while he has no current limitations, arthritis may surface in the future. Foster comments: Webb's dream home would include an active and patient family who are dedicated to his ongoing training and anxiety needs. He would thrive in a home with another playful dog, and would love the chance to be with a family who he can go majority of places with. Webb is truly so special and we have adored having him, he will be a wonderful addition to the right home. Foster Location: Houston, TX Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. Story
Maverick is an 8-year-old male English Setter currently in long-term boarding in Plymouth, IN. He needs an experienced foster, or foster to adopt home. He was an urgent owner surrender when the owners moved in early January.  He would do best with a  calmer/indifferent dog (preferrably female), but can be dog selective otherwise. He lived with older teenagers but no young kids.  He ignores the cats at the kennel.  He is house and crate trained, but does pull on a leash.  Before rescue he was left alone 17 hours or more while the owner was working, He does have a higher prey drive for squirrels and birds, so would do best with a fenced yard. He does not like being corrected/pressured by humans in certain situations & will growl if in any stare down/confrontation. For everyone’s safety, he should be muzzled while at the vet or when being handled closely (which he manages well). Otherwise he really is a happy, friendly guy.  He rides well in the car. He will need a quieter experienced foster home, someone who is going to give him time to decompress and get familiar with them, the new environment, new routines, etc. & that has time to work with him, since his past life left him neglected & undersocialized.  The rescue will assist with any recommended behavioral training/interventions. Please let us know if you can help Maverick to a better life. To discuss specifics about Maverick, please contact fosterplacement@esrescue.org See videos below as he's learning to greet other dogs & learning that loving is a good thing.  Medical: He is up to date on all vaccinations, is neutered, & on monthly heartworm preventative.  He has some seasonal allergies that are managed with Cytopoint injections & medicated baths, as needed. Grain free food also helps keep his skin issues in check. Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance, to within 2 hours of your home. ##2620040##

Story
Socialization: Daisy is excited, but appropriate with new people. She will go to them with her tail wagging, but does not jump. After a very brief introduction she will wander away and lay down.Daisy is very good with children of all ages. With small children she approaches slowly. Training: Daisy will immediately sit upon command. She does not run away, even with an open door or gate. She has good recall and will come running to you. Would benefit from some training on the leash. Crate trained: Daisy does well in a crate. She has been sleeping in one at night in our bedroom and does not whimper or bark until it is time to go outside in the morning. She likes to go into the crate when storms hit. Leash trained: Daisy loves to go for walks but has a tough time containing her excitement. She zig zags, nose to the ground, like a typical setter, while walking but does not pull excessively. She is good when other people approach, sitting immediately to get some pets. She's equally as comfortable when other dogs approach and sniff around. Activity level/requirements: Daisy loves running around the fenced in yard, patrolling for mischievous squirrels and bunnies. In the house she loves to be near humans, relaxing at their feet. Fence requirements: Daisy has been fine with our 4 ft fence. She has never attempted to jump it or dig under it. At one point the gate was open and she walked through. When called, she quickly came back. A physical fence would be strongly preferred for her Personality: Daisy loves to be near people. Inside she is calm. Outside she loves to run around but then will be next to her people. She does get anxious when her people leave. She will bark and howl for a time when alone. She has improved over the last several weeks. Health history: UTD on vaccinations, is spayed/neutered, microchipped, & on monthly heartworm preventative. Daisy is being treated for a positive Lyme test. She takes her pills very easily. Foster comments: Daisy is a sweet dog who would do well in a house where someone is often home. She loves being near people and everyone she meets is quickly her friend. She takes treats very well and eats slowly throughout the day.Daisy is just a love, she loves her people, their people, their dogs, cats, kids; she's an absolute love. Story
Socialization: Harry is shy at first when meeting new people, but he warms up quickly. He has not been around young children but I do not believe it would be an issue. He has lived with three other dogs and has never had any issues. He is interested in the cats that live in our home, but he has not been aggressive towards them. Training: Harry can sit, for short periods of time, but is too excited to stay for very long. He is pretty well house broken, though he may still lift his leg every so often. Harry walks well on a leash and enjoys his time outside. Harry will very rarely play with toys. He did chew up one crate mat, but hasn't touched the new one. He only barks if he is left behind when the other dogs are taken outside. Crate trained: Harry spent every night in a crate both for his protection and the protection of all the other animals in the house. The rest of the day he would be out in the house. He would spend around 8-9 hours at night in the crate without complaint. Leash trained: Harry walks well on a leash. He will stop and look at the birds and bunnies, but will not pull and try to take off after them. He has walked as part of a group and also solo, both with no issue. Activity level/requirements: Harry does well with 4 leash walks a day. He is medium energy, but he is calm in the house. He has fallen into the routine of his couch potato sisters Fence requirements: There is no requirement of a fenced yard. I am sure he would be happy running around a fenced in yard, but him getting out via leash walks are adequate. Personality: Harry is cuddly and playful. He is very happy with a tail that doesn't stop wagging. He enjoys being petted and is friendly with everyone he meets Health history: UTD on vaccinations, is spayed/neutered, microchipped, & on monthly heartworm preventative. Harry has allergies that need ongoing care. He is on Apoquel, hypoallergenic food that is $150 per bag, and medicated soap and mousse. He is seeing a dermatologist as well as the regular vet. This treatment regimen has yielded great results and his skin has healed and his hair has grown back. Foster comments: Harry is the perfect companion. He just needs someone willing to keep up with his medical care. He would be good as a solo dog, or as part of a pack. I would just ask that his days of being outside are over. He is now officially an inside dog, who is getting use to the couch life. Foster Location: Fleetwood, PA Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home.
